  • I like you. Do you like me? Great success!

  • My friend and I used to play when we were kids and had nothing to do. We were so bad, because we would take any chance we could get. Good thing neither of us were good, heh.

  • Imagine if you could play chess in skyrim

  • chess is way better then skyrim

  • king in check at947

  • 3:58, can the queen just go to H4 and not be trapped, or am i missing something

  • @timmaaa07 nevermind, didn't hear what you said about that move lmao

  • Russian + Country = win

    This is win.

  • @WDParsell epik!

  • I support your style!

  • What happens if the opponent is continuously checking you and you have no pieces to defend the king due to confrontation ?

  • @ItzKrazedHD then u die, ;D

  • Why can't bishop take queen on f6?

  • @nkondr3n Nxf3 is check.

  • @SteelPokemonFan underrcheck

  • so can we conclude the gambit openings accepted variations are not the best shot for black ?

  • He sounds like Borat...

  • I always take... lol. no more

  • I love the way he says however :P

  • I agree with this rule. And people must understand this is just a rule, which can be broken in concrete situations to get an advantage. And even when you are a piece up, you should not take unless it helps you. Have you ever tried to play against a strong chess program being a piece up? Believe me; Taking may lead to a draw or even to defeat. Listen to what this Gm says! He knows the game!

  • @SuperPeristilo Thank you for your comment. I have tried the piece up and sacrifice play.. often leading to a draw or worse result. This video has been highly effective in teaching me this critical lesson!

  • your accent is awesome. it actually helped me learn better because i payed more attention!

  • at 10:41 why does Black play ...Qxf3 instead of ...Bd4 ?

  • @Gaussdxdydz you would be in the same situation as in 10:00, don´t you?

  • I do not agree with your sentence "to take is a mistake." For example, in the first game White should not trade pieces because he has a lead in development (Black's Q-side minor pieces have not been developed), or in various other places in the game because one's pieces are more actively placed than the opponent. But what if, for example, you are facing a vicious attack? Wouldn't it make sense to exchange the most important attacking pieces (if you can) so as to survive the attack??

  • @Gaussdxdydz Vaild points, but the caveat at the end of the lesson is critical: if in a particular position you see that you can take and get an advantage, do so. Most players know the saying "If you see a good move, look for a better one" but I took from this video the lesson that too many players (I'm one) will take because even if they look for other moves, they don't understand when keeping the tension is better.

  • it is good to trade pieces if you are up in material

  • As a 15-1600 CC player, I found this really insightful in regards to tempo.

  • @eagleduzt to take is a mistake.

  • great lesson, BUT LMAO U SOUND LIKE BORAT!

  • @TheMetramix idiot

  • 8:30 why doesnt he just take the knight with his knight?

  • @eagleduzt if white takes knight w/ knight then white would lose his a1 rook.

  • Rubbish!!!

  • @MrCube600 , h2 is protected by white's black bishop on f4. It's not checkmate, he would just lose his queen. So... no, it's not a better move :)

  • I didn't know Borat was a grandmaster

  • I dont see the point of blacks move at 3.02 ; isnt Qxh2 # checkmate a better move?

  • Fantastic! It is just like in martial arts: you wait until the opponent goes for the offensive and then you get an advantage after by simply reacting to the circumstance that comes. An advantage is not always present from this, but it is a main principle.

  • This Video rocks.

  • It's so simple it's ridiculous

  • very good video! usually I dont watch a 12 minute video, but this is an exception!

  • i've learnt more in 12 mins than i have in 10 years of playing

  • great instructive video. Thanks GM Smirnov!

  • What a great video! Great explanation, great logic, thank you so much for explaining it in such detail that even an inexperienced chess player can understand it! Well done, Mr. Smirnov!

  • Thank you very much for your lesson. I have never heard that "to take is a mistake", but i've just recently begun playing again (havent since i was a child), and i see the computer player doing this often. I'm usually inclined to trade quickly and keep things even or to my advantage, but that rarely leads to my advantage. I found (prior to this) that very simply, even if you do trade, when you intiate it, you usually end up with a less favorable position.

  • is he from texas?

  • @TheRightNeutrino I believe Russia...and I'll admit I never heard that dialect before except in Dexters Laboratory.

  • @TheRightNeutrino no hes just from the south, they all sound that way lol jk

  • here have some attractive happen

  • This will surely help me in my tournament tomorrow, thanks! :D

  • this will help thanks!

  • in english please

  • @fishinfreddy1 Dude what the fuck's your problem? You know damn well he was speaking English.

  • He is tha best playa in all of Kazakhstan.

Thank you velly much. I like a you!

  • loved the lesson, GM Igor Smirnov!

  • Wait! i was watching machinima!

  • Excellent video Igor.

  • i've always thought about this, i knew that just taking pieces does not help my army since is getting smaller, so i only take when there is an advantage for taking my opponent's pieces, for example, when i trade a passive piece for an active or when i create a weakness on his structure. but this video confirmed what i thought. i'll try to avoid to take as much as possible if there is not a good reason to take :) thanks! please post more videos.

  • Great video GM Smirnov, thank you!

  • Thank you for the video !!

  • Nice vid, helped me a lot!

  • What a superb lesson - helped my chess dramatically immediately. Thanks.

  • Great lesson!! Thank you!

  • Thanks, this was great. I have a feeling it will improve my game. I always noticed that when I take first, my opponent gains development, but for some reason I never stopped to think about it.

  • Nice video thank you
