Scott LaFaro...il padre di contrabbassisti, colui che al pari di jaco ha elevato lo strumento non rinchiudendolo nei confini del mero accompagnamento!!!!

Stan Levy was a left handed drummer. He played for many years at Howard Rumsey's "Lighthouse" in Hermosa Beach in L.A. Victor Feldman was a teriffic piano player who really cooked on the vibes. And Scot LaFaro was untouchable when it came to bass. I saw this group appear live on a jazz television show and it was unreal to see and hear them play so fast and so accurate. It was such a loss to lose Scotty so young.
Just found this video a couple of minutes ago in search, and even though the full title of this selection can't be seen in the search box, I already knew BEFORE clicking on it which tune from the LP this was going to be, LOL!
Even faster than the Dizzy Gillespie/Sonny Stitt/Stan Getz version, which is also incredible! ;-)
wow...that was really good. Those guys could play fast back then. Levey was a left hander but played drums right...he was very good at those tempos. An unsung hero of the drums. Up there with Max Roach and Roy Haynes if you ask me.
Scott Lafaro has inspired me to play, make a bunch of awesome recordings, revolutionize the way my instrument is played, and then die in a car accident at a young age probably under the influence! But really, he had to die, god hates competition.
Its beyond belief that there has only been two other comment on this incredible gem. I'm surprised I missed this recording in my early jazz days.. Victor yes. but realy, Scotty is like from another planet. Thank you, Ossopalatino
Difficult to imagine that this was in the mid fiftees. Three tremendous musicians. The whole album is inspiring. To take a bass solo on BEBOP was enough to frighten anyone. Thanks for posting...Brilliant!!
Feldman is my new hero. Can't believe I just found out about him.
