Hay Ive been seeing these on the net a bit nd it seems kool and all, how much would just this kit car cost without the engine/transmission/drivetrain? If I get one Id put a VK56DE in it with a STi AWD trans :D but I dont even know if it would fit as seeing that it would be a Front engine set up... hmmm looks awsome though!!
Love your videos of the car. I'd love to drive one. It's a beauty. I've been looking around at different kit cars because I've learned the westfield XTR is going out of production and unfortunately I won't be able to build one. How long did the build take?
How much does it cost to have a running car? I would buy the chassis, body and other parts to assemble. I would love to stick the Chevy Ecotec LNF in it. What is the estimate for that?
(After switching between LNF-Fiero swaps to Factory Five GTM kits I think I like yours the best. Well under 2000lbs with 260hp sounds nice. Unfortunately it won't be for another 5-10 years for me to afford it.)
This is the kind of thing people who make replica supercars should make, something that is original and lets you make something yourself without having to rip off other marques to do it.
This is amazing man, how did u do your molds and stuff? I've always wanted to make my own car and I have the money to do it, but no one skilled enough. Can you do custom work?
Congrats, i admire that car very much, even more because usually i have no respect for Ferraris or lambo but this is just amazing,is the engine at the back or at the front ?
get rid of that hideous massive fast and furious drag racing tach withthe shift light..and you have a respectably probably light and good performing kit car!
I know it's not finished. But I googled some more La Balas and they all still look like they're missing something... Like the way you can see from the rear air scoop all the way through to the ground in the wheel arch. That's just... Wrong. And the body doesn't seem to have any slick round edge to it's finish points, the wheel arch and bottom rear of the car look like they were finished with a scalpel. I'm sure the build quality is good though.
maybe because it is unfinished...which still leaves it to look flimsy as it obviously isnt finished. TBH, only people who havnt driven/own a kit car would think that...theyre far from flimsy ;)
It's a work in progress, created by me, in my garage. I built it for fun, and to see how much of a car I could build for the least amount of money. TBH, people like you that have never designed and built their own car from scratch have no understanding of the effort. Since you can only criticize the work of others, you are the weakest link in this conversation.
Whoa, hang on, you're missing what I'm trying to say here. I'm not criticising your workmanship or your remarkable determination to build finish a car from the build up. I'm merely trying to have a sensible conversation regarding what I see as the aesthetic design limitations of kit cars as a rule. Secondly, where's this "peoplle like you" thing come from? You don't know anything about me. I actually restore E-Types from the ground up so I'm fairly good with a spanner myself! Good luck anyway.
No problems alexanderredhead. I recognize that it's difficult to judge a person by what they write, but your words did not come across to me as encouraging in any way.
ie; "Why do kit cars always look so flimsy and unfinished? " and "That's just... Wrong..."
I realize that it's difficult to judge a car aesthetically when it's not viewed in person. I also do admire the fact that you enjoy the Jags, they are one of my favorite designs of all time.
@alexanderredhead Just because you restore car's doesn't mean you have any idea of what goes into formulating a completely new idea, designing it out, making sure it will work and be structurally sounds, and then getting it built all on your own. Buying parts from the dealer and bolting them in place where the repair manual says it goes doesn't mean shit when it comes to designing your own chassis. Besides the whole body is fiber glass so the owner can change it up any way they want to.
@capnapalm Are we still talking about this? LOL, I think i posted originally a year ago! Anyway, I don't know if i agree with what you said there. Kit cars are often built to plan, or manual, and restoring cars sometimes means building parts from scratch, so the two things do cross over. In any case my technical prowess (or lack thereof) has little to do with my original comment that in my opinion kit cars often look unfinished.
@capnapalm to continue, fortunately the owner of this car eventually understood where i was coming from. On the build itself, i have nothing but respect for the guy. Cheers.
I personally think you did an awsome job. its easy fot guys to "badmouth" your creation but i dont see any of their machines on here!!! Its quite obvious that most of these guys HAVE NOT worked in the automotive industry before. my hat is off to you and your ride.
Are You Trying To Hold The World Record For Most Extravagant Use Of The Much Proliferated Capital Letter In A Display Of Inability To Recognize General Style Trends?
@PeterbiltEmzie Yes, I Do Believe I Am. Because Those Aren't One And The Same Thing. OH WAIT- Honestly, this comment was made two years ago, and it seems the original comment it was responding to isn't even here anymore.
wow, nice effort!! Go electric man, stuff the 4 cyl junk, you could get enough LiPo cells in there to crack 3 seconds 0-60, I'd buy one if it ended up cheaper than the Tesla (not hard...)
I saw this vid a while back and I really like it. I've been looking into a kit car for a while and I'd really like to know. Was that a whole kit or did you have to put the body over the frame of another car? Is a donor car needed? I'm seriously thinking about getting one of the same ones you have. Thanks in advance.
Thanks Wolf! I built this car completely from scratch. The chassis and the bodywork are my own design and I made the molds. it looks like a corvette but the one that got chopped up on the assembly and had all kind of problems with it so they actually payed people to take it from them, that thing is fucking hideous
If I was to be critical I would say try working on getting a better stance at the back, try adjust the camber and fit different offset wheels to give it the staggered look. Think there is some work to be done at the back too. Has alot of potential though, well done again.
wait, its a kit car so doesn't that mean like you get the car in a big box with all the pieces and then you assemble it right? cuase i've seen kit cars, that come with all the stuff, like the motor, and springs n stuuf.
why not RWD??? im sorry but how are you going to try and sell a fwd car as a pure track car seems like a lot of effort when you would probably have more interest in a rwd.. do you have any plans to close the back up at all?
La Bala is a tube-frame, mid-engine sportscar that you can build yourself in a standard garage or even a carport using common metalworking tools and a welder!
Be aware that you need to be very mechanically inclined to build this kit from plans as it is a frame-up project.
Finished cars can be built to your spec after careful consultation. Cost depending on engine, paint, level of trim, track or street model, etc.
I love a good homebuilt car and am presently planning on building one myself (most likely a Locost 7). Are plans available for that vehicle? I love the idea of a no frills (no ac, no heat, no radio, no carpet, no nothing) car that is purely about driving. Problem is nobody but Lotus builds one and as a 20 y/o guy I can't afford the $50k price tag. But I do have a MIG welder and lots of tools...
bootbabe921 good luck with your ultima but ill tell you it will cost hell more than youll expect, and when you try to race what this legend has created..Hi'll smoke you
You have no idea in your wildest imagination what a 1,500Lb car with 180Hp drives like. The price of an Ultima GTR or Ultima Can-Am Roller is $89000. You will spend another 8-15,000K building an engine to match the Ultimas performance envelope. In the total, expect to pay over $100,000 for your GTR.
Besides you are missing the point of my car entirely. My car weighs under 1,500Lbs. That's 800Lbs less than the Ultima and 500Lbs less than a Lotus Elise.
I chronicled your build on your website which I discovered through Lambo builder. Awesome job, keep up the good work. Its even inspired me to build my own.
Put a Nissan VQ35 and 6 speed from a 03-up Maxima in it. At 1400 pounds with 265hp, you would shit your pants. Hell, it would be fun even with a d16 Honda! Think about a civic that weighs another 1000 pounds LESS. Nice work, I'd paint it something other than jizz white though, Maybe it's in gelcoat/primer and hasn't been painted yet?
Thats a amazing.. be awesome with a the turbo 4 worlds engine that mistu, dodge, and hyundai use.. 500HP and 1,400lbs be perfect
