  • un grandissimo

  • You gotta love 4:52

  • 11 havn't got 3 lires to buy the potion

  • Folks,

Ildebrando D'Arcangelo is great ! Perfect performance.

Let's not forget that opera is still about "singing" and not only "acting". Unfortunately we have too many "actors" on the world's best opera stages instead of "singers" lately.

Voce chiara e nitida! Bravo!

  • He has an outstanding voice, but he sings it a bit strait for my taste... I forget his name, but there was a specific guy who played Dulcamara when Pavortti did this with the Metroplitan, and he was absolutely outstanding...

Anyway, I think people forget that this is much more of an acting Aria then a singing one, and that, because of the style and era, a lot of liberties can be taken.

Well, that's my one piece... But with all that said, this is a great performance!

  • A bro hai vinto! Anzio c'é!

  • Bruscantini and D'Arcangelo are my favorite =]

  • his singing and acting is simply perfection!

  • Note for joonscribble: the first aria is called "cavatina"

  • well,

It is a cavatina, that's simply a type of aria.

Operatic arias (cavatinas, cabalettas, etc.,) are usually referred to by the first few words, such as above, or una furtiva lagrima, or quanto e bella, quanto e cara.

  • Yes, I know. But cavatina (plural is cavatine, cabalette, etc.), in particular, is the aria of presentation of a character. So I told joonscribble that "udite, udite, o rustici" is a cavatina.

    [Sorry for my english]

  • OR canzonetta.. which would not be from an operatic selection.

  • The way he mentions "gli isterici" on a rapid impeccable falsetto, well ... an artist

  • he's so animated when acting! and his VOICE! I could just go on and on... And yes, he is very handsome. He sure does have the whole package! : )

  • Honestly... i think He slightly oversings... this is a character role. character roles mainly are acted... However, as an aria itself, its well done. Im kinda surprised the chorus wasnt acting as much in the begining. He is talking to the chorus. In the begining, They seem like they are just doing the actions they do because their director told them to. Not because they are actually listening to him... They are totally disregarding every word he sings! however, props to them for opening up...

  • I think opera should always be sang, including character roles. One must act, of course, but the voice is the most important thing. He sings this role wonderfully well. If a blind person goes to the theater and hears this, he/she will be able to enjoy it... la voce è la cosa più importante!

  • I agree! I am an opera singer myself.

  • Yeah I agree, it's nice to hear this role actually sung properly

  • What a voice.Simply the best bass baritone around.

  • Not only a greatest bass-bariton in world and an exellent actor but very good looking man!!!!

  • Grande! Appassionante, deciso, ingannevole!

This is Donizzetti! Leggero (Light) fantastico (fantastic) Giovane (Young) Genio (Genius) Complimenti!

  • A very strong, and interesting, performance. D'Arcangelo is made for this role (I like his as much Domenico Trimarchi's characterization) - not the classic fat Dulcamara, but a fit, convincing snake oil salesman, the kind you may find on nighttime informercials - three easy payments.... Very well done!

  • Bravo, D´Arcangelo!!!...great singer and very handsome...

  • What a great singer! Thanks for posting this.

  • No problem! And yes, he is rather great!

  • I really like him!

  • Yes, D'Arcangelo's lovely!
