ahh punch out why werent you an ambassador game. TELL ME WHY? ( cries from nostalgia even though i want born in the 80's so i could hand glass joes as to him on the actual system itself) jk love this game
@mymovie3 No, there's a difference between wars and arguments. Let's say car lovers, for example, since you brought it up. They cater to each other's car advantages, NOT talk it down just because it's a brand that they hate. Gamers on the other hand (fanboys to be precise) will hate another game "just because". And there's a handful. Also, when I sad they didn't have an issue, I meant that everyone was par. Not just because the internet either, but people in life, especially those that I know.
@mymovie3 Yeah, but that also applies to modern games too you know. I don't mind competition, but the all-out console war is just stupid. Gamers should play what they're called for. Games. It's annoying to go watch a video and see comments all over arguing what is better. Classic games never had that issue. But, back to the topic, I do enjoy classic and modern games. Especially seeing how our technology evolves. And new gameplay/stories.
@mymovie3 I agree with you on what you had said, but the thing I don't like about modern gamers is that they aren't very well gamers. That of which, I mean they talk down classic games when they've never touched it just because of bad graphics, shortness, or it isn't all blood and gore. Some people weren't even born during those times, but they still trash of it.
@ewolwerdna Oh, so you play games by NOT looking at them, no, okay, that's all right. Because, you see, I occasionally LOOK at games when playing (meaning that BOTH gameplay and graphics are important for a game to be really good with a few exceptions). Imagine, playing Super Mario Sunshine with SM64 graphics. That's a whole lot of fun right? And then what's the point of remaking classics if graphics don't matter? Gameplay is more important than graphics, but graphics are still very important.
@oldkidsjonge You understand what I mean. You still be able to see the game to play it, obviously. I can understand where you're coming from with this, seeing as you're not one of those guys that care zero on gameplay.
@ewolwerdna I care about gameplay, but if your making a game that is trying to represent a realistic situation (say GT5, GTA, CoD, anything like that) the gameplay needs to be good (otherwise it's unplayable), but even if it's great, having PS1 graphics on your PS3 can really ruin the intense experience or cutscenes or whatever (e.g. lack of facial expression). It's both important (with gameplay being more important), for games trying to be realistic. Mario is another story.
The old games would always seem impossibly hard. But there was always simple tricks and strategy's that would even out the playing field. Back then you had to explore and experiment, instead of always getting hints from the game itself, lots of health and really lame A.I. Back then it was an adventure (Still a lot of games today are like that) you had to find the secrets and treasures on your own with out it being the obvious next thing to do. And being told where it's at.
I remember being in 5th grade, this was around 1996, I think, and buying my friend's copy of Punch-Out!! from him and being excited as hell to have it. 1996, we already had the Nintendo 64 and I was psyched to own a working copy of Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! for the NES. Hell, if I knew where they were, if I even still have them, I'd be playing it now.
@spartaneric4161 To beat King Hippo, when he swings his arms at you with his mouth open, punch him in the face and then keep punching him in the stomach. Just keep repeating that and you should beat him.
If you can come up with a better fucking song than this, lemme know @ retro fanboy haters. Cuz this shit right here? This shit right here? Its some of the best sound tracks for a game of that time. So fuck off.
Damn, it didn´t even get a second before the nostalgia run through my body and i got a glimpse of a tear in my eye... Nintendo was and still are so fucking awesome!
@lozfan564 The Baldur's Gate series came out during the late 90's and early 2000's, and those games are some of the best ever. Also, Planescape Torment is easily as good, if not better than those, and came out in 1999. Get it!
Xbox and PS3 only concentate on graphics, the wii does aswell. But nintendo has not lost the plot, they brought out the virtual console to let people live back in the old days, when it was just you and the controller. Ah, good old punch-out!!, getting my ass handed to me by mike tyson, good times, good times. (I'm kidding, truth be told I found him easy once I learned his pattern)
The old systems were so hardcore. New Super Mario Bros. is a cakewalk in comparison to the original game. Luckily, Punch Out is still known to have frustrating difficulty. Even Gameinformer [I think] couldn't beat the new one!
Punch Out!! (Wii) is the closest that any company has come to a perfect game suited for all ages. They totally make EVERYTHING nostalgic in a new and non-boring way. For example, every song is a remix of this original song. But, the instruments and remixes are all so different in so many ways. It's perfect.
Then again, the graphics are acceptable by old gamers and new gamers too. And, new gamers aren't affected by this game's perfect difficulty. Makes the game last longer. :D
I wish I could find the music that was played when an opponent was knocked down, no-one seems to have it, except someone who plays it on a piano. I liked all the songs on this game, fantastic for nes.
I'm not sure if you found it yet, but I found the theme you're looking for. just replace this in the url: watch?v=YDywZ2tHPqQ&feature=related. there's also a related video that has the little mac knockdown theme
man i cant beleive i missed a good game, i grew up with the playstation and i always wanted to play soem snes or nes game, thanks to the awesomness of vnes i can, but i gotta say.. nes games are damn hard XD
well i play mike tysons punch out on my internet browser (damn great tiger) but i really wanna get it for wii, on the other hand im saving my money for left 4 dead 2. i tihnk ill get punch out for christmas ^^
(after his jewel quits blinking and stuff, wait til he keeps crouchin, and while he is crouching, hit him in the stomach for some fast stars) when he does his teleport thing PRESS and HOLD block (down) when he hits you. Keep doing that until he is stunned then hit him, but remember you can't just hold it, you gotta PRESS and HOLD block. I think you block it 5 times to be exact
I hate to say it mane, but that is embarassing hahaha, you gotta think old school bruh, there is only four buttons...press one of them when you got a star
haha this is awesome...i remember the good ol days of this game, i kinda expect to hear a couple punches while the music plays or one your opponents doing his special move NES was the greatest, hands down
everyone who talks down to retro fanboys...i feel bad for them, cus they obviously dont appreciate the importance and the awesomeness of the nes and SNES. You couldnt make up for lack of gameplay with graphics or huge worlds, gameplay was everything, games ended up being more fun
Agreed-I also pity them. Some of my friends are real modern-gaming hacks who won't even play (or at least won't play to any real extent) games like Super Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time, let alone playing and collecting NES and SNES libraries. Although the one who disparaged me for buying retro games and not just deferring to emulators realised I was right and bought a SNES so he could play SMK, which made him see the benefits of having the real thing. Their staunchness is based on wilful ignorance
@matigolazo80 yeah, and afterall, without the nes or snes there would not be any precious xbox or psp or ds anyways... its not graphics that make a game, its the gameplay itself...
i totally agree, nowadays people just want good graphics and good online and being able to shoot or kill someone, they don't seem to care about anything else.nothing can replace good gameplay nothing.every true gamer knows gameplay is the most important aspect of a game, while graphics and all of that is just icing on the cake.
@SpinDoctor91 Actually, I consider all of that extra. While good graphics are nice, the things that really make-or-break a game for me are gameplay, music, and storyline (I care about each pretty much just the same). Those are reasons why Viewtiful Joe, Ninja Gaiden NES, Mortal Kombat Trilogy, CTR, Fire Emblem Gaiden, and Metal Gear on the MSX will ALWAYS be some of my favorite classics. Yes, I consider VJ a classic simply because of what it is.As I was telling phubans, I'm only 15-16 years old.
i do agree,i think gameplay, storyline, and mechanics and controls are the most important.if a game has that,it has the formula to be great.you make a good point and i do agree with you,i love all the games you mentioned.and at your age it is great you realize the classics my freind, keep gaming the greats! :D
@matigolazo80 Which is why I'm still a Nintendo fan. Other game companies need storylines and amazing graphics to look good. Nintendo just wants the game to be good. Which is why Peach is STILL getting kidnapped.
@matigolazo80 They're too young and retarded to understand what it was all about. These games had heart; something they'll never know about, unfortunately.
@phubans Well...I wouldn't say all that about us young people. I'm only 15 (almost 16), but I mostly play games ranging from several years old to decades old whenever I have time. I'm currently playing through Fire Emblem Gaiden (released 1991) and Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos since I've beaten the first one. I love me some NES Castlevania, Metroid, and SNES F-Zero.Just the same, though,Monster Hunter captures a VERY similar feeling,as well as Fire Emblem 9&10,the new NG and DMC too.
@matigolazo80 Yeah. There totally weren't graphics wars or anything back then, the whole blast processing 16-bit vs 8-bit stuff never happened! I'd like to live in the world you grew up in, cause reality wasn't quite as nice as you say.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Sonic? i never had anything Sega i was talking talking Snes and before Besides now that you say that All of Genisis and any sega had shit music and usally the Nintendo version was much better,
My friends criticize me for playing nes and snes games. I tell them even though i started playing in 1997 (I was 3) i still prefer old classic games over new ones. They just dont have any appeal whtsoever
Im big on the retro stuff and the classics (even though i wasnt born when half of them were around) but thesedays its all about graphics, what happened to gameplay?
Punch--Out Wii isn't that bad actually. Plus it has lots of replay value with those achievement things. I still think Super Punch-Out is the best though.
No, I never said that it was bad. I just like the old NES version a lot. I also love the triple posting little kid complaining about how retro games suck.
I said most, not all, but you must be pretty dull if you can't see that games are primarily shit these days, they take longer to be released, cost large amounts of money, and are almost always dull and shitty.
Yeah, I agree with every one of you except ArsensCreed. I had a friend who said classic games are boring just because they were 2D. And he's 16! (I'm 15).
Aren't you all living in the past? Seriously, the only reason why you all like older games over newer ones is because they are "new." There have been some amazing games that have been released recently. While some older games are still fun to play today, a lot of them haven't aged well in comparison to the modern market.
If you did read my comment, I did say I didn't agree with ArsensCreed. He said Punch-Out Wii wasn't as good as the original on the NES. Yes, they release SOME awesome new games now. But not very much. Also, I'm only 15, so really I wasn't around in the NES days.
It's not because games simply are "new" that they are disliked. It's because fucking developers are churning out shitty rehashed games after shitty rehashed games. It's hard to find a quality game these days because it's all about sales and graphics.
Companies like Nintendo and Square Enix may not be hurting for cash, but that's not to say they can't use the extra cash for things that benefit the customer. In his GDC keynote, Iwata talked a lot about the prototyping of ideas that they do at Nintendo, and these ideas may or may not eventually be turned into games. This is basically what Miyamoto does, and how new innovation is turned into games.
Most companies are forced to just stick with what they know will sell to make a profit. Square Enix, on the other hand, just has really high production values in all of their games, so they tend to take a long time to develop games and spend a whole hell of a lot of money, and that's another thing they might not be able to afford to do without selling remakes of FF and DQ games over and over again.
yea but the thing is that the new games have been released with lack of story. i mean check GUN that game has so much quality and good textures but the story is to short. it gives to much freedom to the player wich makes it boring
thumbs up if your nostalgia brought you here

thewarrior46 2 years ago
i dont get how i beat him, how should i do when he does his teleportation thing
jonus63 2 years ago
(after his jewel quits blinking and stuff, wait til he keeps crouchin, and while he is crouching, hit him in the stomach for some fast stars) when he does his teleport thing PRESS and HOLD block (down) when he hits you. Keep doing that until he is stunned then hit him, but remember you can't just hold it, you gotta PRESS and HOLD block. I think you block it 5 times to be exact
thewarrior46 2 years ago
I've got a way to beat him without him using his special attack I actually discovered it by accident I'll upload a video on it

everyone who talks down to retro fanboys...i feel bad for them, cus they obviously dont appreciate the importance and the awesomeness of the nes and SNES. You couldnt make up for lack of gameplay with graphics or huge worlds, gameplay was everything, games ended up being more fun
matigolazo80 2 years ago 98
Agreed-I also pity them. Some of my friends are real modern-gaming hacks who won't even play (or at least won't play to any real extent) games like Super Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time, let alone playing and collecting NES and SNES libraries. Although the one who disparaged me for buying retro games and not just deferring to emulators realised I was right and bought a SNES so he could play SMK, which made him see the benefits of having the real thing. Their staunchness is based on wilful ignorance
Nintendomanwill 1 year ago
@matigolazo80 yeah, and afterall, without the nes or snes there would not be any precious xbox or psp or ds anyways... its not graphics that make a game, its the gameplay itself...

that's a sad day..too many of these kids are worshipping their 360s and PS3s because they look perfect
TheChoujinVirus 1 year ago
@matigolazo80
i totally agree, nowadays people just want good graphics and good online and being able to shoot or kill someone, they don't seem to care about anything else.nothing can replace good gameplay nothing.every true gamer knows gameplay is the most important aspect of a game, while graphics and all of that is just icing on the cake.
SpinDoctor91 1 year ago
Man1cmanMario 11 months ago
@Man1cmanMario
i do agree,i think gameplay, storyline, and mechanics and controls are the most important.if a game has that,it has the formula to be great.you make a good point and i do agree with you,i love all the games you mentioned.and at your age it is great you realize the classics my freind, keep gaming the greats! :D
SpinDoctor91 11 months ago
@matigolazo80 Which is why I'm still a Nintendo fan. Other game companies need storylines and amazing graphics to look good. Nintendo just wants the game to be good. Which is why Peach is STILL getting kidnapped.
NintendoxFighter 1 year ago
@matigolazo80 They're too young and retarded to understand what it was all about. These games had heart; something they'll never know about, unfortunately.
phubans 1 year ago
@phubans Well...I wouldn't say all that about us young people. I'm only 15 (almost 16), but I mostly play games ranging from several years old to decades old whenever I have time. I'm currently playing through Fire Emblem Gaiden (released 1991) and Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos since I've beaten the first one. I love me some NES Castlevania, Metroid, and SNES F-Zero.Just the same, though,Monster Hunter captures a VERY similar feeling,as well as Fire Emblem 9&10,the new NG and DMC too.
Man1cmanMario 11 months ago
@matigolazo80 Yeah. There totally weren't graphics wars or anything back then, the whole blast processing 16-bit vs 8-bit stuff never happened! I'd like to live in the world you grew up in, cause reality wasn't quite as nice as you say.
Xbob42 10 months ago 3
@matigolazo80 Graphics don't make up for gameplay...it never has, nobody buys a game and accepts it sucks because it looks good.
kikook222 10 months ago 13
@kikook222 It's amazing how many people would buy those types of games and defend them by saying "But... it looks amazing."
supertrigg 9 months ago
@matigolazo80 So true. This game was a jewel and look at the remake it created! Both were pure awesome.

My friends criticize me for playing nes and snes games. I tell them even though i started playing in 1997 (I was 3) i still prefer old classic games over new ones. They just dont have any appeal whtsoever

But remakes of old games are good too.
BTW, today I'm going to buy Punch-Out Wii :D

Punch-Out Wii wasn't half as good as it's retro counterpart in my honest opinion.
ArseArsensCreed 2 years ago
Punch--Out Wii isn't that bad actually. Plus it has lots of replay value with those achievement things. I still think Super Punch-Out is the best though.
piranha483 2 years ago
No, I never said that it was bad. I just like the old NES version a lot. I also love the triple posting little kid complaining about how retro games suck.

no, your being a retro fanboy.

I said most, not all, but you must be pretty dull if you can't see that games are primarily shit these days, they take longer to be released, cost large amounts of money, and are almost always dull and shitty.
Either way, fuck off troll.

Cool story bro
EricToTheScionti 2 years ago 2
yea most of the games now are so much graphics than gameplay. now games storylines are more and more small and easy than the old games.
sabrewulf09 2 years ago 4
Yeah, I agree with every one of you except ArsensCreed. I had a friend who said classic games are boring just because they were 2D. And he's 16! (I'm 15).
supercolton64 2 years ago
Aren't you all living in the past? Seriously, the only reason why you all like older games over newer ones is because they are "new." There have been some amazing games that have been released recently. While some older games are still fun to play today, a lot of them haven't aged well in comparison to the modern market.
ExandShadow 2 years ago
If you did read my comment, I did say I didn't agree with ArsensCreed. He said Punch-Out Wii wasn't as good as the original on the NES. Yes, they release SOME awesome new games now. But not very much. Also, I'm only 15, so really I wasn't around in the NES days.
supercolton64 2 years ago

exacly, there were alot of bad retro games, and just because a game is old, they consider it from the "golden age of gaming" which is just stuped.
Rasequi0 2 years ago
It's not because games simply are "new" that they are disliked. It's because fucking developers are churning out shitty rehashed games after shitty rehashed games. It's hard to find a quality game these days because it's all about sales and graphics.
EricToTheScionti 2 years ago
good point you have in there.

This is basically what Miyamoto does, and how new innovation is turned into games.
morphor 2 years ago
Most companies are forced to just stick with what they know will sell to make a profit. Square Enix, on the other hand, just has really high production values in all of their games, so they tend to take a long time to develop games and spend a whole hell of a lot of money, and that's another thing they might not be able to afford to do without selling remakes of FF and DQ games over and over again.
morphor 2 years ago
I did not write that someone from a forum i go to wrote that XD
morphor 2 years ago
yea but the thing is that the new games have been released with lack of story. i mean check GUN that game has so much quality and good textures but the story is to short. it gives to much freedom to the player wich makes it boring
