Otto was a tough son of a bitch. He didn't fight a lot, but he could hold his own. The only guys Otto struggled against was the big dogs: Semenko, McSorley, Kyte, etc.. Looked like he tripped and couldn't get back up because other players were on top of them. He was used to going back and forth w/ Messier. Joel held his own vs. Mark.

Hey Buddy, What space ship did you just land in? Joel Otto got his ass kicked all the time when he was a Flame and Messier was an Oiler. I saw Mess kick his ass when I lived in Edmonton and I watched Mess pound on Otto when I lived in Calgary. Otto was about 3 inches taller than the Moose and 25 lbs heavier but never one a single fight in 13 career bouts. As for the video pal you must be blind. The Moose landed at least half a dozen in Otto's face. Messier 5 for fighting, Otto 5 for receiving.

Joel Otto was a big guy who got into loads of fights, but very seldom seemed to win. Case and point here. Messier isn't the biggest guy and seldom fought, but he gave Otto a BEATING.

No dude... not on drugs. Just been watching hockey for a long, long time. If you ever watched Messier in his younger days, he was a great fighter. He wasn't an enforcer by any means, but he had more than his share of fights and was considered a very good fighter. Unlike most centers in the NHL.
