The cars are still made by BUGATTI engineers, NOT volkswagen. Bugatti did that on their own, it wasn't a response to the SCC (which is LSx based). The Bugatti isn't impressive in my book. 16 cylinders, 4 turbos, 12 intercoolers and only 1000 whp? Thats sad..

Not true; there are no American manufactured v8 engines that equal or exceed the horsepower or torque of a Japanese v8 for any given displacement, all else equal. This is also true of not only v8 engines but just about every type and configuration of engine used by the manufacturers. This isn't because Americans don't want to build great engines, it's simply that the Japanese ideology of continuous innovation and excellence in engineering is superior.

Fuel and air have to be burned in the proper ratio to avoid detonation / excess heat (lean) or waste of fuel and loss of power (rich). There is no "magic" in the combustion chamber of a Japanese, German, Italian, American, or any other engine that negates this. More power requires more fuel, no matter how you get there (FI, displacement, RPMs). All approaches are valid.

@eikichi2009 Are you saying the Japanse make larger engines than Steve Schmidt 935 CI? Made from Dart blocks, which are manufactured in Michigan? I didn't think so. Are you also saying that Japanese build v8's that have more horsepower and torque than a top fuel dragster? Didn't think so on that one either! Sounds like you try way to hard to convince non import fans to come to your side.

@eikichi2009 the only reason why the japanese v8 engines "exceed" american engines its all because they just simply add forced induction, if an american engine is modded to have forced induction there is no way in hell the jap engine will catch it, yes you might have 1000 horses on paper but once put on the track the american engine will leave you in the dust by the time your turbos are done spooling

@eikichi2009 (Sigh) I guess it's time for another physics lesson. Horsepower and torque are created by burning fuel. Fuel and air have to be burned in the proper ratio to avoid detonation / excess heat (lean) or waste of fuel and loss of power (rich). There is no "magic" in the combustion chamber of a Japanese, German, Italian, American, or any other engine that negates this. More power requires more fuel, no matter how you get there (FI, displacement, RPMs). All approaches are valid.

So what? That still doesn't change the truth that the Japanese build superior engines in almost any configuration be it v8, v6, inline or boxer 4 than do the Americans. The Japanese have superior efficiency, technology, output, and emissions control technology. It's a fact, not an opinion. If building a smaller and lighter V8 were a priority to the Japanese they would do that better than GM or Ford too; just take a look at a Toyota or Honda F1 engine.

@magicn3ss yeah! AFTER you have dumped near 20-30Kinto the engine. Which almost no one ever does and those that do build a new engine 2-3 times a race season. putting that much HP in an RB anything drastically shortens it's life expectancy.

What strikes me as odd is, Holdens have the same engine yet I have yet to see one video clip of this type of ferocious roar come out of a Holden. So the question needs to be asked. Why is it that the minute a car comes out of Japan people want to change it and make it better? Simple. As much as we love the cars made by those nips, we still dont trust them to do a good job.

@idismoker Are you sure? cause I see down pipes coming from both, their mounted at an angle and depth that seems unsuitable for belt drive and the title says turbo. They probobly have turbo blankets on the exaust side which is making them look like prochargers.
