ENG: I hate the guy that always cough in a concert

  • This piece is an absolute referent for the classical guitar, and is so difficult that you will find few concert players that attempt it live. There is a version by Julian Bream that also is mind-boggling and a bit more lyrical. But after watching something like this marvel by David Russell I don´t really know whether to sit down to study or just give up on it and watch tv or something.

  • un lindo sonido realmente David is great!

  • anyone can play in a church. only a few can play in museums

  • as a child my father gave me the musical methods of Aguado and is the best for studies and advance music like the one we are lestening to.

  • Fantastic!!

  • Inspiring, artistic, and incredibly musical, as usual.

  • he sucks, im way better than him

  • @HongwareeChannel this cant be taken as a joke and if you really believe this , then your a idiot

  • dude ur awesome./ I am a clasical guitar but i just started playing classical so ca u give me any tips?

  • @Fafasungrass LMAO

  • Wats so funny?

  • @Fafasungrass "I am a classical guitar" And calling "dude" a maestro of guitar, and asking for tips like he uploaded the video himself, and you grammar. That's funny. I'm sorry. Oh, and the fact that you "told" Russell he's awesome, like this video was uploaded days ago. It's pretty funny. Actually it's amusing.

  • @soullessSiIence i ment classical guitarist and it is pretty funny i guess God bless!!!

  • Is there some secret or mindset I could learn or discover that would help me understand all of the complexities of Classical Guitar? I see notes on a page that are hard to shape so quickly, I wish I could look past that.

  • @vaibanez17 practice it as slow as a snail

  • Maravillosa obra

  • i wish the quaility would be better

  • :O :O :O :O 3:15

  • I hear only the guitar and song, what a fantastic musician.

  • He's bringing the artworks behind him back to life.

  • Holy cow! Tuning in the middle of a performance!

  • Who is this jackass cameraman? Why was he allowed to mess this video up with his skills?

  • awsome O.O

  • Fantástico...a música e o intérprete...bravooooooo

  • Dude i think my ears just exploded, they couldn't handle all that amazing sound they just got overwhelmed and died

  • Hey I have a good idea, lets pan out everytime he doesn something really spectacular with his hands (~_~) Cameramen....

  • Just great!..

  • Absolutely superb! Crafted to flawless perfection by the great master, David Russell!

  • Russell ... genialmente magico.

  • Yes Segovia was the best in some eyes, and others no, however this isn't segovia. =) I beleive the names in the description. So critique him instead of someone not even mentioned in the vid.

  • haven't been able to get this tune and feeling out of my head since i first heard it months ago now...beautiful piece of music played by an incredible musician...

  • 2:06 isnt similar to Beethoven´s Sonata patetica 3erd movement?

  • @tommyIglesias una "cita musical" , puede ser

  • @manosdach si, es parecido.

  • Segovia was the best.

  • @musicJustus SO BAD? AND YOU CALL YOURSELF JUSTUS?

    rofl!

I get tears in my eyes

  • It always amazes me how people memorize such huge pieces.

  • I wander if Aguado could play this piece as well David?

  • Bravo!

    Great! Love it!

  • Grande Russell!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • min 6:06 -6:31

    is very difficult

  • exelent !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • you can always tell a great musician.theres always a bunch of assses, slinging stupid comments around.while we are on the subject of asses.why dont you try it....lets see ya on the Tube ...

  • @MusicTerry

So, if someone were really terrible...then if they got bad comments..then that means they really are great?

    Weird logic there.

Of course no on is right except you?

Well, I love his playing...aways have...but this piece is some boring music.

  • @Rexicano mmm i hope your not one of the assess im referring to. To be an accomplished player like David,Takes a lot of time, you never stop learning the guitar. My Brother practices for 6 hours a day,i dont have that time to give to it,but it takes all that to do it.What can i say, enjoy what you hear. You can reach the same level takes time and deicacaisheon as Doug from the Queens would say.

  • JA JA

  • ok. i feel like punching you. hard.

  • HAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! so funny...

  • hahahaha tcherassi1 you are very funny!!! lol...

  • Genius!

  • You don`t know anything about classical guitar!

  • You're right. I don't have the CD of every famous guitarist and haven't been playing for 16 years and am not one of the best 21 year olds in the country.

    You're right.

  • i can think of a few 21 year olds that are better than you, and that's just at my school.

  • What school?

  • "a tiny bit lacking on musicality"

Crazy Crazy man clean your ears!!!

  • the best classical guitarist of our time.

  • @thalkettoth

    Can't disagree with that.

  • i want to see some of this pricks doing it better that david , upload a better version, talk is cheap . sorry for the bad english

  • I'm sorry, but why is there even debate about whether he is a great player or not? He obviously is one of the top players in the world. I don't like to crush debate, but this one is a no-brainer. David is fantastic!

  • This was him at his best in my opinion. The Gilbert guitar sounded great!

    Bravo.

  • Nicoguitar78, listen/ watch David's video Pasacaglia_handel and tell me he is more technician than musician. Pooh!

  • I am practicing this piece and it's seriusly impossible to play it so fast and so clean.....!!!

extraterrestre playing (one more from russel)!!!

  • Nothing is impossible!

  • aaahhhh beautiful playing!!!

  • Ah, David Russel is God!!! I won't comment any longer, because there are always poeple idolizing the "great" guitarists even if they're not musical. Russel is a great technician but musically it's ZERO. Who is he compared to Michelangeli, Lipatti, Furtwabgler, etc...? I wish there were guitarits who'd be musicians, but it was just a dream. And stop saying everytime someaone criticize "could you play better"? I can't make better bread then the baker but I know if he's selling me shit...

  • u wish there wud be guitarists who'd be musicians..

    Shame on you

  • I bet you don´t play the classical guitar. If you don´t hear that he´s a musically wonder, you should check your ears. He changes tone colour like no one else. He manages to let his only guitar sound like diffrent instruments or voices. He´s the best!

  • Well, I've just been playing for 17 years or so. Studied in the Ecole Normale in Paris, where there's Alberto Ponce and a lot of good players... I've heard that rondo maybe 50 times... So as I said, Russell for sure is technically good (technique includes tonal variations, which here are not very present!). For me, he just plays fast and strong. Sorry my english's too limited for me to explain why I don't think he's musical...

  • I have to agree about this version. The introduction sounds decent but the rest is perhaps too fast . I still prefer the Julian Bream version (and some others) with the particular accents, pauses, colors, vibratos, etc. used by Bream to make of this a very expressive piece. However, I can not say that Russell is not musical. He has some other wonderful versions to his credit.

  • The obvious is Julian Bream as a great Musician. Pavel Steidl being another one, perhaps my favourite guitarist/musician. He has so much passion for the guitar and music it's infections whenever you meet him, and you always go away and practice for about 6 hours after meeting him haha.

  • Exaggerated but true....its still far away from being even close to other instrumentalists. Its usually idiotic when people see for example this video or the one of him playing Invocation and Danze and say "he's the best" ...theres tons of other players playing it MUCH...i mean MUCH better but not as famous....

  • @guitalvaro

This guy has had an international career for like 32 years, so I wouldn't knock him too much

  • @namcisum

Segovia did so for 80 years....but if you play like him nowadays you go nowhere. Point made.

  • @guitalvaro

Umm, Segovia created the classical guitar as a concert instrument, if you heard him play in like 1920 he would blow the doors off anything you can do, so don't flatter yourself

  • Again narrow minded. Who ever mentioned my playing in all this? I can be the worst in the world but that doesnt change the fact that so far most guitarists have been way too concerned with the technical difficulties of the instrument rather than creating a musical persona. Prasing below than average musicianship is not going to make our instrument like the piano or violin anytime soon. sad but true...

  • can't understand why you say that. if you don't like his style, that's one thing and it's accepatable. but saying "MUCH better", that's just untrue and you have to show me some. i personally think this is one of the better pieces he plays, almost no errors, fine and comfortable interpretation, russell-like. i also say, that i like breams version better, but would never say that it is MUCH better then this one

  • Even David Russell does nto meet up with your brilliance? Do us all a great big favor and shut up.

  • This is a presentation of pristine surfaces. For better or worse there is no dimension beyond this and it will only please those practitioners of the same.

  • I take it back. The errors is the cadenza halfway through the third minute make this 'semi-pristine' surfaces only...

  • Well, as long as we're being ridiculously pedantic, I'm pretty sure you mean the fourth minute. The third minute is from 2:00 to 3:00.

  • 3:15 - 3:30 flawless technique. One of my favourite pieces. I will always have the Bream version (which his gamut of tones) in my head, but this is a great interpretation.

  • I don't think he was rushing the piece, he has His own style, but the best interpretation of rondo is in my opinion the one of Julian Bream

  • Excellent as usual, although I must say Julian Bream plays with much better phrasing in this piece.

  • do anyone can give me a torrent of this, or tell me where could i find it?? i mean, in which disc of Russell?

  • Znajome pomieszczenie i...Ponadczasowy Aguado

  • there are only about 4 or 5 other players alive who can play like this, the cleanlinss and precision, and subtle sentiments of the player all interact. When the art of the musician approaches perfection, there is no room for criticism, only awe.

  • amazing, superb, fantastic!

  • I gotta say, I like the speed hes playing this piece at. This gives it the metal touch, along with his extremely aggressive picking he had back then. I really dont think he plays it that stressed because its so damn difficult, something that happens to most of us I guess, but because he just got a aggressive flow when he started to play. Long sentence....

  • also i think he got tired at some moment, you can see him waving his hand when he can, but hey, this piece is damn long AND difficult

  • I have an idea zadzic, why dont you fucking play it the way it was written and show everyone how you can do it as apposed to giving a supperior player advice.

    dildo.

  • Dear JHotnuts - I am to old for fucking - I 49 years old, and Ihave another intersts in my life. One of these interests is guitar, more than 40 years. I visited lessons of solfeggio 35 years ago - and that is why I post my comment. Russel is good guitarist - so I beleive he can play it much better.

  • If you admit that you can not play it you shouldnt be telling others that can what they are doing wrong.

There are so many wannabe guitar teachers and experts on youtube who constantly talk shit about other peoples performances without having the balls to post their own performances.

People like this make me sick, and you wouldnt say it to his face, youtube shouldnt be an exception.

    ~Stand and deliver.

  • Actually you should take your balls and hang them.

I can tell the difference between a bad pair of shoes and a good one, without being a shoe maker. zadzic is completely right, Russell could do better. While it was a very good performance, he rushed through it.

Furthermore, I couldnt play that, but you know what ? Eat me.

Tell Marcel R. Ranizki to write a better book, douch.

  • Once again it seems that it is so easy to criticize someones playing from the safety of the internet. You wouldnt have the balls to say it to his face, you dont have the balls to play it yourself it seems the only thing you do have balls for is to pump your buddies zadzic bung hole full of man seed.

Lean to play the piece yourself, post it and let everyone else see how knowledgeable YOU are and now your version is better then DR's.

Back on the tard van dildo.

  • yes! I did just like you said and rushed to listen Li Jie... Excellent solfeggio! Even a midi sequencer can't play this piece more in tempo (hence better) than that! Awesome!

  • why is there always someone coughing haha

    russell is gooood

  • in concerts, when de music stops (ie movement ends), i like to cough to start a chain reaction of coughing.

  • AWSOME YA! THIS ROCKS

  • his rondo is so stressed! why didn't he make me dance?

  • this is an extremely difficult piece dude...basically an exhibition of virtuosity from the late classical early romantic era by the ingenious aguado

  • right.. the introduction is too fast!! :S

  • fascinating

  • I can't believe that anyone can play this on a modern guitar at all, let alone this well!

  • russell at his very best...

  • Magistrale interprétation d'une oeuvre grandiose! David est au top !

  • even more perfect at this song is i emanuele buono!!!!

  • sooo nice....

    parfait russell 5*

  • *****+*

  • david russell is a good guitarist this is just too fast.

  • I prefer to play this piece a little bit slower, but this interpretation is nice.

  • mi IDOLO

  • nunca escuche este obra maestra antes

    me cautivo

    EXCELENTE

  • accoustics too echoey in this room and the guitar is coming over toppy rather than a blending of base and treble... A very lovely piece of music and the guitarist also very accomplished.

  • You guys are judjing a little harshley. DR looks like he's still a teenager in this video.

  • julian breams interpretation is technically cleaner, musically better and in general much better than david russels interpretation. Although russel still does a good job, he doesn´t reach the high performance and musical expression of the maestro julain Bream.

  • Is it just me?, Or do you guys also prefer lie jie's version?...cause david russell plays it a little rushed and makes a couple of mistakes (around 3:10-3:19)...and li jie plays it at a good tempo and cleanly...

  • MrBrownstone11654

Yes I do prefer Li Jie's interpretation. But as apluvtias pointed out, DR does look a bit young. If he were to do it again now it would probably be slower and more tasteful.

  • I like to try to play this song and imagine i can play it this fast. Often works me into a sweat lol.

  • I'll never be able to find a tab for the first part of this song.

  • I found the score for the andante somewhere and now I forgot where and I'm trying to find it again. I'll send u the link if u want.

  • Here it is, on page 6.

  • Hey! Thank you for your help! So ya, what do you mean on page 6? I don't see it posted anywhere on the comments, and I don't have any messages... Where should I be looking? Thank you again for your help!

  • hey, i also searched the andante and couldn't find it... :S can you help me?

  • Go to free-scores com search for Aguado and open Trois rondo brillants pour guitare seule Op. 2

The Andante is on page 5.

  • very nice

  • Isn't it about time he gets his own DVD??? I would pre-order that in a heartbeat.

  • it calms me that even masters like russell make mistakes about 10 times in a piece...

    outstanding performanxe

  • im betting your one of those

    'GLASS IS HALF-EMPTY" types

  • what do you mean with this exactly

  • a phrase typically used in reference to someone who focuses on the negative.

  • He means instead of seeing how great Russell plays here you dwell on the most minute mistakes. I thought quidovq was pretty blunt; hopefully this is blunt enough.

  • is everyone joking? seems like he was just saying that you can still make mistakes when you're good... i don't understand how you see any kind of negativity or pessimism in what he said.

  • I agree with sleazebee...

  • i can see that, i suppose. tone is often lost in comments....so, lets have a group hug and move on. ;-)

  • God bless Dave! He is great to listen to for all aspiring classical guitarists and all classical guitar music lovers! i hear him in person and still his performance rings in my head.

  • What incredible tone! What passion! David Russell is second to none.

  • It's not often that we can have a star of this magnitude!

    Thank you, Mr David Russell.

  • so effortless, just breath taking, what a Genius ,love u David, I hope you live 500 years!!

  • buen video my bien tokada saludos

  • Every time when I listen David's play, I find something new. I heard this piece on CD and live many times, but this video sounds very vivid and fresh. Thank you showing us this precious video. His music is wonderful.
