Franco Corelli (Calaf), is really the standard. Pavarotti sang this beautifully, and I like his version along with Jussi Bjorling. I am happy Paul Potts is having success, and he will get better as time goes on of course.
For the definitive version type this in youtube;
FRANCO CORELLI "Nessun dorma! Nessun dorma...Tu pure, o Principessa" Oct.04.1960
Thank you for filming and posting, He hit that last note and held it seemed like for an hour. I still have tears coming down my face. What a gift from God!!! Words cannot describe the joy I feel when I watch and hear him sing! He is amazing, brilliant, fabulous and a humanitarian. God Bless Paul Potts!
In my opinion this was a horrible job on his part. He hit a lot of flat notes and the strong ones that he does have are very poor. His best one is still the one that he did for his audition. No assurance of himself, no cockiness just plain beauty.
@goldenthroat86: Such crab mentally is really shameful ! It is not about where you sing, it is about what you sing and how well you sing it ! Now just listen to this version one last time & can you honestly say with hand on heart that it is lacking in any way whatsoever..? Paul Potts has a truely remarkable gift, the range & power of his voice are truely amazing & for this alone the man should be admired & not subjected to your petty back biting and bitching !
This man's voice is truly unique & I love that look in his eyes when he pulls out all the stops & goes where no voice has gone before. He does this on every track of his new cd, Cinema Paradiso, going far beyond the safe confines of the song...& takes us with him...it's just amazing! Put on headphones & really listen 2 each
song. There is a moment in each song where the singer can either launch in2 the unknown or take the easy way. Paul launches into that magical journey in each song. Epic!!!
It is an absolute privilege to be able to listen to this performance! This is so breathtakingly beautiful that it makes my heart ache. It just literally takes my breath away every time I watch it. What a Gift!!
Oh my goodness! I am laughing and crying at the same time. Judging from the way Paul held on to that penultimate note, the vibrations must have felt good to his flu-wracked body. Never heard it better!
@paulpottstv Dear Mr. Potts: Please tell your management to stop calling you an "International Opera Star." You don't sing in operas and you know it. SHAME!
@goldenthroat86 Doesn't he sing this well, few could have done it better especialy you, and you know Nessun Dorma and others are from operas. Is not that how Pavarotti, Domingo, Lanza, became so famous "internationally", it wasn't perfoming in an opera, it was singing the arias in a concert with many mikes after years training up to the hilt. They say Royal College of Music in London looks well on your CV. You say you're trained opera singer! Its more than jealousy, its hatred. Please S.T.F.U.
@thornbirds26 I said nothing about Paul's singing. Pavarotti and Domingo became famous "internationally" by singing in operas, not concerts. That's what makes them opera singers. Late in their careers, Pav and Domingo sang concerts as well. But they never stopped singing in operas. Paul sings concerts of pop music with a couple of arias thrown in. Michael Bolton does the same thing. Is he also an "opera singer?"
@goldenthroat86 My management don't call me any such thing. Perhaps you could go to their website and check. I never ever label myself as I believe that labels serve more to push people away from certain kinds of music than draw them in. I have been consistent about this from the start. What the media says is another matter. We have a free press nd they will label me as they see fit. Well done on your enthusiasm and energy it should be put to POSITIVE use rather than trolling

He has certainly gotten better since Britain's got Talent. Still don't think he comes to close to Pavorotti though.

No. this is much better than audition, and the notes and range incredible.
There is always someone to come on and be negative, credit where credit due, not critisizm.

An "amateur". Amateurs should run the world, if they all had Potts' passion and talent.

Have heard many of Paul's renditions of Nessun Dorma. This ranks as one of his best in my opinion.

We Americans tend to confuse/conflate flu and stomach bugs. At any rate, kudos for calling forth such a performance!
