  • That was towards the end of the golden days, nothing sounds sweeter to my ears than the 17k rpm 2.65L Turbos of CART. Watching this almost makes me feel depressed in some ways, to know that its now all gone..... CART will be forever missed.

    And one last thing, FTG

  • nothings sound like this V8 turbos.... i miss so much CART...

  • They were rev at 17,500 rpm at 900 hp. Faster than the current F1 car.

  • To add on to the methanol in the morning quote...

You know, one day this open-wheel war is gonna end.

  • The engine sound like the F1 V8 engines.

  • Better, the turbo smooths out the exhaust sound.

  • Man, I sure miss those Player's colors. They were a trademark of NAOW.

  • Great video!

  • Teams which competed in Indy Lights in 2001 either joined the Toyota Atlantic Championship, went to the new IPS, got lost in oblivion, or disbanded. Brian Stewart Racing was the only Lights team which joined the IPS.

  • To clarify at 2:53, the Toyota Atlantic cars were on track. Ryan Hunter-Reay won the Atlantic race that weekend. Indy Lights collapsed after 2001 and the remnants of that series became the pathetic Indy Pro Series which grew into the credible Firestone Indy Lights Series.

  • Pretty sure you are mistaken on the Indy Lights to Indy Pro Series. Might wanna check on that.

  • Strange question, I know...

In the beginning of the video, I saw a Portuguese flag on a pole. Any idea why? Tiago Montiero of Portugal raced in CART in 2003, but this was 2002.

  • i feel like i am there whit your video....

    many many thanx pal

  • i was there. it was my first indycar race

  • I don't think he realizes what he's doing 100 percent of the time with Indycar, LOL. The guy is a grade A schmuck. As much as I love open whel racing and have been following Indycar/CC since I was a kid, I kinda hope this new version of Indycar fails completely. Time for the thing to die. Scorched Earth policy. It's complete crap compared to what once was. I almost said what "it" once was, but "this" isn't really the original "it". I don't consider this new Indycar the real Indycar anymore.

  • I wish I had the chance to see a CART Champ Car race. Thanks for posting your videos on You Tube.

  • Depressing to see all of that gone.

  • I guess, but my big problem with this whole situation was other than the in-fighting and arrogance of CART owners, the series (then) Indycar was very very healthy. Granted the series wasn't perfect bit compared to what we have today it was absoultey astounding. Does anything think the current Indycar could lure someone like Hamilton away from F1?. Truth is the series was destroyed largely by one man's greed. Think of where it could be now had it stayed CART. Instead we have 'this'. it's crap.

  • did you film this yourself?

  • Yes.

  • cool Laguna Seca was one of the best road courses for the CART/Champcar series.

  • And now, Saddly, Tony George could care less about it. Same with Road America, Cleveland, Portland and of course Surfer's Paradise. Each and every one of those tracks made Indycar what it was. Now like everything else that was good about CART, they all got tossed aside. Damn shame.

  • good point I don't think Tony George realise

what he is doing half the time with the Indycar Series.

  • i live hour and a half from road america, man do i miss it

  • I live about 38 hours from it and I really miss it!, I can't imagine how much it sucks for you guys. At the very least you have ALMS to look forward to. Actually ALMS has turned into (for me at least) the premiere road racing series in North America. They really have it together. Technoloigally advanced, lots of manufacturers, intruiging racing, professional teams. Pretty much everything that this current version of 'Indycar' is missing. If was that close to an ALMS race I would'nt miss it.

  • i was so mad, the first year they had the ALMS and CCWS at road american at the same time(2006) i was watching the ALMS race and it started to rain and my mom made us leave till the next day. i was so mad, it was a great race from what i saw. i missed the race this year do to a family get together. but i plan on going this year. even if im only a teenager, i miss CART SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much

  • that sucks man!. Oh well, lots of good ALMS races to look forward to. That series is alive and well and prospering. Great series to follow.

  • AtomicMutant, i know it won't sound very good to you but sometimes these things happen. in order for indycar to be healthy 10 years from now we need to concentrate on the here and now. if that means dumping races to make way for a better and healthier future then that's what we have to do. some great races have gone by the wayside over the years and i for one do not hold against george or anyone else. it's a part of the glorious and tumultuous history of indycar and the championship trail.
