  • I actually saw 832 sitting with the California Zephyr in Sacramento. But I believe P42 122 was trailing.

  • AWESOME!!!!!!

  • @AmtrakRailfan117 Thanks!

  • whats the diffrence between p40 and p42

  • really nothing but the power and performance,a P42 is a little stronger and faster than a P40.

P40-has 4,000 Horsepower and a top speed 103mph.Amtrak #800-844(most are gone or lease)

    P42-has 4,250 Horsepower and a top speed 110mph.Amtrak #1-207(still all amtrak)

so the simplest way to identify them these days are through the numbers lol, they are my favorite type of locomotives.

  • @k5lta These rebuilds of these P40s are now the same as P42s in some ways. Their gears were changed, so now they can go up to 110 mph just like the P42s. Their horsepower is the same as before though.

  • If u wanna see more of these p40's theres a whole stack of them down in chicago. I was pulled twice already by them, they seem to ride a little faster than the ol p42's

  • Pretty rare i saw The CZ #6 With 3 p40's

  • @UP5140SD70M Cool. Seems CZ gets more P40s than other LD trains.

  • @singwith Yea on saturday i another CZ With a P40 Trailing a P42, Also The P40's have nicer K5LA's

  • @UP5140SD70M P40's also seem to ride faster than the p42's

  • @amtrak393 Yes P42's suck mass P40's dont blow turbochargers as much as P42's but Any GE's are crap basicly, get back the ole reliable F40's and SDP40's

  • @UP5140SD70M yea that's true, p42s axels get hot easier, cuz i remember a couple of times the dector said that they axels were higher than usual.

  • @amtrak393 yea true i saw a p42 with a smoking axle a couple days ago to bad my camera got stolin

  • What a neat lashup! Nice catch!

  • @CoasterFan2105 Thanks Mike!

  • Great vids. This is why I love LA.

  • @Thecharger17 Thanks!

  • I saw a dog cross the tracks!

  • nice!

  • @atsf484number3751 Thanks!

  • Dang if it wasnt for school tommorow I would go catch them in ABQ

    Great video Snuffy

  • @apl1031 Thanks!

  • Well done, Snuffy!

I have never seen two P40DC locomotives in one consist ever since these returned to the rails!

  • @NebulaTrain99 Thanks!

  • Nice Catch Snuffy, I almost went out there to see this but I was really looking forward to catching UP 1989 which arrived LATC too early so I fell back a sleep.

Haha BTW what is that dog doing there, I seen it yesterday around this time.

  • @The40MAC Yes, it was too early to catch 1989 and also 1983 will be at LB sometime 3AM tomorrow. :(

well, that dog, is a railfan. :P

  • @singwith Yea that is all sad. BTW 1983 is late as it was suposed to be here on Sunday around 5PM when I traced it before. Guess those haritages are being UP 1996. BTW The oil cans have been having UP 8352 for the pass 3 weeks and is currently at Wunpost now.

  • @The40MAC Hey, I went to this location this morning around 7:50AM but I guess I missed the ZLCAI?

  • @singwith Yea I am wondering what happend today too. It was probbaly late starting as I normaly go to Daly weekdays now and leave around 7 and it is normally there with its engines waiting for its yard engineer but not today. Another thing probbaly is since Marianna road crossing is dead that they pull all the way up there to finish tests.

  • @The40MAC I could not catch #1 this morning and ZLCAI..... my bad luck. :D

  • @The40MAC Btw, I did not see the ZLCAI on the last Sunday.

  • @singwith Hmmmm must of been early or late.

BTW 1989 is on the ZLCBR and hopefully by Saturday it returns to LA since it takes 1 day and 8 hours in each direction.

  • @The40MAC Yea, I was thinking about going to Glendale to see it but I did not go. Hope it come back but it won't be on the point. 1983 is still at the L.A yard. I wonder why UP won't put the heritage units on ZLCAI? Hey, have you seen ZATLC recently? I hope it is still running. :P

  • @singwith Yea I wonder the same thing....maybe their scared to interchange it lol. I am sure the ZATLC is still running and see it sometimes in the morning or late noon arriving, those reefers sure tell it still runs. BTW I think 4141 is back on the road and is currently in Leredo TX from the KCS from Mexico (might be tagged up if still painted in what it is known for).

  • @The40MAC you are right 1989 is coming back tomorrow morning. and 2010 special tomorrow and Sunday. 4141 is still at Jenks.

  • @singwith Yea both are comming making me think if I should stay out the whole day catching them both or go home a little and go back out. The tracer keeps saying UP 4141 is in Leredo for some reason as of August 31st.

  • Whats the difference between P40 and P42.....is it rare to catch them? Great vid and vids keep it up

  • @Thunderfucku2 P40s are numbered in the 800s and the first order by Amtrak for new engines to replace the F40s, with 4000 HP. P42s are named such because they are the same make, but with 4200 HP, and numbered 1-207. Yes, it was and still will be rare to catch them since only 15 are being rebuilt and put back into regular service. Right now a double-headed P40 team is really rare, and the only other time was when 831 was pulling 815 in Missouri.

  • @kanjo007 The both units left L.A on #4 tonight.

  • @kanjo007 4250 horsepower on the p42

  • @Thunderfucku2 Thanks!
