What I was getting at was that they are futuristic looking compared to the originals. A bit wild lookin for nowadays even,compared to modern LMP's. And the GRX is completely different. But,hey,whatever...

Well,It seems fine to you younger folks,& that's fine. I guess the futuristic aspect of it was inevitable. Movie makers love to change things. But in this case,IMO,it's just a lil over the top for us older fans. I still like watching Speed Racer DVD's with my kids. Who knows,they might like this updated version?...

I grew up with speed racer in the mid-60's. This movie sucks bad,since it is nothing like the original. And since it's 2009 already,I refuse to believe that racetracks are goin to look like hot wheels on acid in 2091. def a thumbs down...

@unionrdr Yes I know your comment is a year old, but I still want to comment. This movie is nothing like the orginal? All the characters are there, The Mach 5 has several button activated gadgets, the Mach 5 can do everything it can do from the cartoon, Racer X is Speed's brother and nobody knows that, His car is the same. What exactly makes this nothing like the orginal, a different story, different villians? You're the one finding silly little reason to dislike this movie.

@TEKITOcreations In the original,they were real race tracks,not this suspended roadway thing,which looks like an episode of Eon Flux I saw once. The cars are futuristic,even by today's standards. And we knew then about the racer X brother bit as well. Even the GRX looks nothing like the original. Just a lil too futuristic for many of us,hence why it didn't last long...

@unionrdr The races aren't reallt futuristic, the just look fancier being bright and live action. Sure the race tracks weren't as over the top, but the races were. The cars can jump, has secret weapons and gadjets and can do all kinds of stuff. Is making race tracks in a way that takes advantage of all that really disrespecting the series? These are changes that in no way takes away from what was good about the material it'sbased on. A movie may have some changes, but they're not unreasonable.

Sure this movie is obviously not about realism, but making the cars futuristic makes sense and doesn't take away from what speed racer is, an anime crazy over the top races. What you're complaing is (and I'm not trying to be rude or make this a huge argument) superficial. It like saying am Iron Man movie would suck because in the movie he did heroin. Sure he never did heroin in the comics, but it's not a problem he was an alcoholic and did drugs.

XCI means 91 so it could be hinting the movie takes place in 2091.
