Very welcome to have a listen to AirwavesJoxfields Vegetable (Elephant ) Man with Joxfields tribute-to-David-Gilmour's-ca-1971-playing guitar at 1.59. If you make a visit; hope you enjoy it! Cheers!
I think syd had a mental condition but not so bad it couldnt be treated. If the other members of pink floyd had of taken him somewhere to be diagnosed early he might have been able to have stayed with pink floyd.
@marchofgodzilla Doubtful. He was known to have been mentally unstable even by his dad. LSD pushed him over the edge some time in 1967, but therapy was tried in the form of getting his solo career off the ground, by none other than his own former comrades in Floyd. As time went by he grew increasingly difficult to work with. What was left over was a vacant recluse who spent the last 35 years of his life in self-imposed isolation, leaving the rest of us with an enormous sense of loss
@chev6art Man no offense to you but getting his solo career helped out by the guys who kicked him out of pink floyd would have been like twisting the knife further.
@marchofgodzilla This stuff is not hard to research. They didn't kick him out of the band. If they had set out to do that, Syd would've been gone in the summer of '67. They tried to accomodate him any way they knew how. But it was obvious to them and the fans that Syd was ill and often incapable of performing. Nobody wanted Syd to go; they knew what they had, even back then. But maybe Syd perceived the whole thing different. In his last years he breathed threats at Roger Waters. So sad.
@marchofgodzilla yes, read some history. They encouraged him to get back into it. They were friends since childhood. Syd would have taken the whole thing down... no dark side... no wish you were here. In the last days syd tried to sabotage gigs and shoots, he suggested in the end that the way forward was to hire two female saxophonists and something else equally ridiculous.
Such a touching, heartfelt performance. I saw a few other guys trying to cover Barrett & it was an absolute bloody fail. I think maybe from now I'll only watch Gilmour tributes.. Although it is nice to see Syd's legacy being fulfilled. Shine on you Crazy Diamond. A light in your eye & A spring on your step <3
She said a big band is far better that you,Libby words to syd.She didn't like rock and roll and neither is music. Bummer, maybe words that was coming back during is trips.
No one pays such heartfelt tribute to the genius of Syd than David Gilmour. Not even Robyn Hitchcock can evoke the same sentimentality than when you hear Dave covering Syd. Beautiful stuff!
this is not good he should not try to do syds work he is not syd and this song is not even from when he was in floyd and i dont care who gets pissed i love david but he shoud not do syds stuff
@BlueMoon329 Gilmour produced and played instruments on a lot of syd`s tracks, so what im saying is that david did alot of syds stuff back in the late 60`s.
@djdre123 no im not saying that i saying it is not right he still trys to do his songs after syd is dead if some one heard this they might thank that it is a david song and i do know that it has syd's name in the tital but if it did not david would get the credit for it and i hate covers of fucking great songs
@BlueMoon329 even if it didnt say the name in the title he mentions hes going to play a song from syd, by the way look at how many people have covered this song on you tube, if they can do it then david should have 500 times more right to cover it
'Washed potatoes'... if anyone has the right to sing a Syd song, it's David Gilmour. Didn't he teach him to play guitar??Nobody's songs are sacrosanct... they are there to be interpreted, sometimes good, sometimes bad. I think Dave Gilmour does an excellent job. That's my two bobsworth. And I love Syd's stuff.
IMO i think if you have David as a friend, you have him for life and even death, unless you cross him up. I love how he remembers Syd and now Richard too, shows a lot about a man's character.
David does Syd's songs justice. At least David honored Syd and Rick Wright with playing some unheard gems when he plays them live. David has done many Syd songs live since 1994 and did Rick's "Remember a Day" after Rick's passing. At least David honors his friends unlike Roger whom just plays Shine On and WYWH as tributes but DG does Syd covers as tributes to his old friend.
His version of "Dominoes" in 2002 was phenomenal. The live version on Live in Gdansk 3-CD/2-DVD is just as good, if not better. David can sing Syd songs and at least honors them (unlike Roger). Roger doesn't like to perform any material pre-DSotM sans Set the Controls. David be it with PF and/or solo did Arnold Layne, Astronomy Domine, Terrapin, Dark Globe, Remember a Day, Fat Old Sun, Echoes, One of These Days, Wots...Uh the Deal.
absolutely! david also played one of the songs from rick's last solo album broken china called 'breakthrough' at the meltdown concert. david cherishes their friendship for sure. and it's a beautiful musical friendship.
Good God, just once I would like to read the comments section after a Floyd clip without reading some so-called fan's opinion of who's better, Roger or David. Give it a rest people. The two of them have. The music would not have been nearly as good had they both not been there to collaborate on it.
wow!

Anyone have the chords for this?
volcaDAN165 2 years ago
The chords I playv for this tune are:
intro: B F#, B F# , D# C#, E.
verses: A D# 9, Bmin 7, E. (repeat) A , A7 D, Dmin, A E. repaet verse.
chorus (if you can call it that) D, Dmin A, A7, D, Dmin A E, then a D Dmin A F#, B E.
then into verse again. kinda catchy!
rest easy syd.
