The Rules of Engagement over in Iraq are anything but aggressive. Did you know that when an insurgent attacks you, you (a US soldier) has to attack back with munitions that are equivalent or below that of the insurgent or it is breaking the Rules of Engagement. My friend is a Marine. He's on one of those big LAV's with a 20mm cannon on the top and he can't engage insurgents who are shooting ak's at his convoy with it because it is 'inhumane' says the rules of war. they use .556 rounds in m16's

Instead of using .762 which is what the insurgents use, we don't use .762 because a .762 is more likely to kill a person than a .556. They make Marines use a smaller round so they can wound the enemy, to get another to come out and help his fallen comrade. taking two out of a fight with one round. that may work when you fight people with actual souls, but when you fight animals that don't care about themselves, let alone their 'comrades.'

Also, it is a 'more humane' way to die if the insurgent should die (god forbid...right)They also use .556 round because of the penetration and tumble factor. a .556 round can penetrate better than a .762 round and a .556 begins to tumble after 100 meters so when it penetrates it bounces around the body, like a .22. A .556 is basically just an elongated .22

But the thing is...most of the engagements over in Iraq are room to room, much less than 100 meters...more like 10...so the penetration factor works against us, the .556 round just punches straight through. That's why they're taught, 2 in the chest as fast as you can, followed by one in the head. And let's say there is a sniper that has pinned you don, and right next to you is one of your M1A1 Abrams tanks. He can't send a 90mm bullet into a building to flush him out.
