I have had fear of needles for long as I can remember. In my childhood my mother was a hypochondriac and took me to the doctor many times. I must have had numerous injections at that time but I have blocked out all memory of that. In the last 31 years I have only had a blood draw twice. Once at age 14 and at age 19. I do not know how I went through it at that time. Now at age 45 I could not imagine having my blood drawn. I understand this is irrational. I do not know how to overcome this fear.

Guys, good deal at doing it in the fatty tummy tissue instead of the legs where babies get them (some go into the muscle, which really hurts)

One other tip for moms and dads... whoever is the calmest one during these procedures is the parent who should be there. My hubby is terrified of needles.

I on the other hand know to bite my tongue as hard as I must and simply cuddle and comfort, not add to the stress.

Don't feel bad... my husband is the same way. He and I agree he shouldn't be there when our kids get shots so that they learn that it's not a big deal. Our oldest now knows Daddy is afraid and keeps trying to help him overcome it, because he knows the benefits.

What's funny is our oldest hates needles, too... he's just learned how to deal.... he closes his eyes, holds his breath.

The middle kid ASKS for shots because he is obsessed with not getting sick... and our youngest almost is, too
