horses wont charge a solid object,if the shield wall holds firm the horse will stop, unless the horse can jump it horses not totally stupid, infantry have to make a gap then the cavalry can pour thru, charge the gap
I'm an American but I think it's kind of neat that I can trace my ancestry back to Norman Knights, at least that's what it said when I Googled up my last name, Trowbridge....but I'm sure many will tell me just how wrong and offbase I am, have at it. I do have family though that have been to Trowbridge in Wiltshire, there is a picture of my Aunt Sara standing in front of a road sign saying Trowbridge 10 km and I think Frome 15km, I need to find that picture.
Yeah, the trouble is, you can blunt weapons, you can soften blows, you can do everything to make things safe, but there is basically nothing to deaden the power of a charging horse, which means that most live cavalry reenactments end up being quite lame affairs.
@TheMetalPenguin They did actually fight like this, running straight into a shieldwall of pissed-off Saxons is suicide, they would do a sort of 'drive-by' instead.
its kind a fun, Denmark is small now but back then. Danish blood was in the king before Harald godwinson, and in the blood of William the Bastard AKA The Conquereror
Seeing the Norman knights retreating, the spectator broke ranks and chased after them.

Well the cavalry didn't charge straight in anyway, they galloped around, struck once, rinse and repeat.

This is just wrong. Cavalry reenactments are really bad.
TheHighKingFingolfin 2 years ago
yeah but its not like the horse can realistically 'die' with loads of people around it with pointy stuff
