Pontiac...solstice..gxp. Shoulda stayed dead after megatron ripped it in half after the first 2 hour GM commercial: Transformers. Don't get me wrong, its a beautiful car, and I'm in the same young/single category as DerekD, but all those little issues from the interior ergonomics (pockets for easy access to License/Registration/Proof of insurance a must for sports-cars) to the handling, to even the fact you can't put the targa top in the "trunk", all add up...going to another car.
I hope that GM is smart enough to have Chevy absorb the Solstice into its lineup...maybe redo the front end to give it a Chevy identity. But something tells me that GM will not be smart enough, and will kill the momentum that the Solstice and its sister car, the Saturn Sky, in the roadster segment.

I didn't mean any offense, I'm just saying I think your camera guy is out to TRY to make you look short. 5'7" is cool. Says on Google average North American male height is 5'10", so its not like your Mini-Derek-Me or anything. 3 inches don't mean anything (well, maybe to some girls). Tell them to film you with the camera eye level or slightly higher so you look taller in relation to those ultra-low vehicles you have to stand next to so often. Otherwise, its all good.

Solstice looks so much better than its European counterpart, the Opel GT. My employer gave me one for a week.
Same glitches tho what Derek mentioned, non-existant boot, no storage spaces to speak of, no place for the ipod or cell phone. But what's most annoying is the lack of space in the drivers seat for a big guy like myself. No way i can drive it in the city for longer than 20minutes, my legs would kill me (i'm 6ft1in). Cruise ctrl on it was ok. The car lacks a nice exhaust note too imho.
The power isn't very explosive either even tho there's plenty of it. Makes it more dosile and easily controlled i guess. Mid-engine would be cool and make it a light V8 :)
It's still the same platform (GM Kappa) as Pontiac Solstice and they're very much alike. The engine is the same as it seems are some components inside the car as well from what i can see from the review etc. Same complaints :)
I'm also a bit amazed at Pontiac's short sightedness conserning the T-tops, how could they NOT make some sort of holders for them in the trunk (like 4th gen f-body or a bag like 3rd gens). The Opel GT convertible trunk is hopeless tho, no way you can even fit a few golf bags in there or large bags for weekend trips etc.
i have a mk5 gti with a chip and intake making about 270hp. in first or secind gear it scares ppl cause the car pulls side to side. but it torque steers in all gears but 5 and 6. traction control keeps it under control but not when its off. my point is you cant simply decide to put a large engine in a car and sell it, there is a limit to what various components can take. for example vw saw that 250hp is too much for my car so they made an awd system to cope with the added grunt.
yeah but the Miatas RWD, so TQ steer doesn't exist. I think it can handle it especially with the newer even stiffer chassis, and I have seen it done in the older 04MSM. It does lack traction but thats because its going through 215mm tires. If it had fatter stickier tires I think it'd be fine. I'd LOVE to have one. it'd be like having an Exige S 260, with a nice interior. I personally think it could be done, but not easily or cheaply. But I'd pay the premium for one.
Thats a cool ending segment but Pontiac is no more; are they keeping the solstice as a Chevy? Plus for 32k you could buy a real sports car like a 370z.
That pontiac would be my last choice for a sports coupe, I would get a BMW 135i or a Nissan 370z hell I would even take a Mazda MX-5 over the solstice.
The MX-5 is an awesome car. I hope the make a Mazdaspeed version. I am guessing they aren't because they want to keep the ol' less power less weight philosophy. But if the did make a MSM again it would be SICK!

A 263hp version would be INSANE, as in Z4 35i killer insane. That would be a real Boxster competitor there, one that i'd pre-order now!

Yeah from the MS3 and MS6. I think that widening it with some bigger fender flares and using some nice 235/35/17R Toyo proxes, a mac pherson setup with some better coilovers, and maybe some slotted Brembo brakes could handle the power. The chassis is GREAT it just needs some upgrades, and some aero upgrades like a rear wing. I have a friend with a '04 MSM pushin 279whp and it's CRAZY! But I would say, it is a HANDFUL!
ya the car would need a full body kit too. it needs to look more manly lol. but i dont think that the stock chassis has what takes, you might not twist it, but 100 more hp might be a bit much. ive never driven a modded miata so i dont really kno though. and all the drivetrain would need an upgrade from the engine on back.
BUT I will admit, it wouldn't be an easy car to drive at all. Id say soften the rear and stiffen the front suspension to induce a little rear understeer that could quell the rear slip. A nice suspension setup with some fatter tires I think coulld handle the power.

If I could have my way I'd so have 2.3L turbo Miata, with a front splitter, rearwing and some fat 245mm Nitto NT05 comptitetion tires! I'd also have it come with some JIC magic, Tein, or Ohlins adjustable coilovers, with pillow ball mounts. Some extended tie-rods, urethane bushings, chassis braces, 25mm Cusco sway bars! WHAT DREAMS ARE MADE OF! DROOL!

Yeah, I really do want a 370Z. I like the 135i but im not really a bimmer fan. As you can tell by my fanatical Miata dreams, I like RAW cars, the more raw the more I like them and the bimmers just aren't raw enough for me. Fast and nice just not raw enough. Now the M's are no joke.
Well Dered, for the money of your Pontiac you could have bought like Subaru Impreza or Mitsubishi Evo X which is in my opinion MUCH more high performace + 4 doors (which isn't relevant to you but still it is better in my opinion) and bigger boot. The engine sound of the mitsubishi is monster too.
GXP problem aren't the space issues, but it's a FACKING 5 SPEED!!!! Where is 6-speed manual??? Not only would it go faster, but it would get better milage, FAR better milage! 5 speed for 260hp is just TO FEW and needs extra speed!

I didn't mean any offense, I'm just saying I think your camera guy is out to TRY to make you look short. 5'7" is cool. Says on Google average North American male height is 5'10", so its not like your Mini-Derek-Me or anything. 3 inches don't mean anything (well, maybe to some girls). Tell them to film you with the camera eye level or slightly higher so you look taller in relation to those ultra-low vehicles you have to stand next to so often. Otherwise, its all good.

Solstice looks so much better than its European counterpart, the Opel GT. My employer gave me one for a week.
Same glitches tho what Derek mentioned, non-existant boot, no storage spaces to speak of, no place for the ipod or cell phone. But what's most annoying is the lack of space in the drivers seat for a big guy like myself. No way i can drive it in the city for longer than 20minutes, my legs would kill me (i'm 6ft1in). Cruise ctrl on it was ok. The car lacks a nice exhaust note too imho.

The power isn't very explosive either even tho there's plenty of it. Makes it more dosile and easily controlled i guess. Mid-engine would be cool and make it a light V8 :)

It's still the same platform (GM Kappa) as Pontiac Solstice and they're very much alike. The engine is the same as it seems are some components inside the car as well from what i can see from the review etc. Same complaints :)

I'm also a bit amazed at Pontiac's short sightedness conserning the T-tops, how could they NOT make some sort of holders for them in the trunk (like 4th gen f-body or a bag like 3rd gens). The Opel GT convertible trunk is hopeless tho, no way you can even fit a few golf bags in there or large bags for weekend trips etc.

i have a mk5 gti with a chip and intake making about 270hp. in first or secind gear it scares ppl cause the car pulls side to side. but it torque steers in all gears but 5 and 6. traction control keeps it under control but not when its off. my point is you cant simply decide to put a large engine in a car and sell it, there is a limit to what various components can take. for example vw saw that 250hp is too much for my car so they made an awd system to cope with the added grunt.

yeah but the Miatas RWD, so TQ steer doesn't exist. I think it can handle it especially with the newer even stiffer chassis, and I have seen it done in the older 04MSM. It does lack traction but thats because its going through 215mm tires. If it had fatter stickier tires I think it'd be fine. I'd LOVE to have one. it'd be like having an Exige S 260, with a nice interior. I personally think it could be done, but not easily or cheaply. But I'd pay the premium for one.

Thats a cool ending segment but Pontiac is no more; are they keeping the solstice as a Chevy? Plus for 32k you could buy a real sports car like a 370z.

That pontiac would be my last choice for a sports coupe, I would get a BMW 135i or a Nissan 370z hell I would even take a Mazda MX-5 over the solstice.

Yeah I know, but im talking about a new generation MSM. One with the 2.3L Turbo, 263hp 280ft lb. engine. The old one which I am looking forward to owning only has 178hp, just enough to be quick. A 263hp version would be INSANE, as in Z4 35i killer insane. That would be a real Boxster competitor there, one that i'd pre-order now!

Yeah from the MS3 and MS6. I think that widening it with some bigger fender flares and using some nice 235/35/17R Toyo proxes, a mac pherson setup with some better coilovers, and maybe some slotted Brembo brakes could handle the power. The chassis is GREAT it just needs some upgrades, and some aero upgrades like a rear wing. I have a friend with a '04 MSM pushin 279whp and it's CRAZY! But I would say, it is a HANDFUL!

ya the car would need a full body kit too. it needs to look more manly lol. but i dont think that the stock chassis has what takes, you might not twist it, but 100 more hp might be a bit much. ive never driven a modded miata so i dont really kno though. and all the drivetrain would need an upgrade from the engine on back.

BUT I will admit, it wouldn't be an easy car to drive at all. Id say soften the rear and stiffen the front suspension to induce a little rear understeer that could quell the rear slip. A nice suspension setup with some fatter tires I think coulld handle the power.

Sorry bro, I am just fantasising about my idea of the PERFECT sports car! If I could have my way I'd so have 2.3L turbo Miata, with a front splitter, rearwing and some fat 245mm Nitto NT05 comptitetion tires! I'd also have it come with some JIC magic, Tein, or Ohlins adjustable coilovers, with pillow ball mounts. Some extended tie-rods, urethane bushings, chassis braces, 25mm Cusco sway bars! WHAT DREAMS ARE MADE OF! DROOL!

Oh man that would be such an awesome car, the Miata is such a fun car to drive it would be perfect if it just had more power like you said, you should drive a BMW 135i the 3L twin turbo I6 is such an awesome engine! The 370z is probably a great car to but Im just not really a Nissan guy.

Yeah, I really do want a 370Z. I like the 135i but im not really a bimmer fan. As you can tell by my fanatical Miata dreams, I like RAW cars, the more raw the more I like them and the bimmers just aren't raw enough for me. Fast and nice just not raw enough. Now the M's are no joke.

Well Dered, for the money of your Pontiac you could have bought like Subaru Impreza or Mitsubishi Evo X which is in my opinion MUCH more high performace + 4 doors (which isn't relevant to you but still it is better in my opinion) and bigger boot. The engine sound of the mitsubishi is monster too.

GXP problem aren't the space issues, but it's a FACKING 5 SPEED!!!! Where is 6-speed manual??? Not only would it go faster, but it would get better milage, FAR better milage! 5 speed for 260hp is just TO FEW and needs extra speed!
