  • @mrsaccount since its a tournament, you have to do three reps, no more and no less. the judges watch your form and your body as you lift. If you bench lightweight you are supposed to do about 50 or 60 reps, if you do heavyweight like i do, you do 2 to 5 reps

  • I might not put up as much numbers as some people in the video, I'll admit it, but I make sure the bar hits my chest when I bench, I make sure my elbows come out and I rack the bar properly on cleans, and I make damn sure I hit parallel when I squat. Half squatting 405 will get you no where.

  • actually half squatting is good for some sports. I do shot put and usually you legs are between half squat and parallel position when your throwing. So being able to half squat a large amount of weight (along with being able to do parallel reps which we do too) .....also the spotters suck balls......

  • I didn't think about that. I see what you mean. Half-squatting can be helpful. It's just most people get into half-squatting as a habit and then can't get into a full squat. But you're right, as a shot-put thrower, I can see where half-squats would work. Thanks for bringing that to my attention.

  • @Yc530pride i guy that went to my school name paul daniels bench 425 in his 10 set. he was the top bencher in south carolina. now its his freshman year and he's starting left tackle at newberry college. and powerlifting is pretty much a mind thing. if you put it in yo head that you can lift 300 then you will work harder to get 300. right now im a junior doing 245. and squat 340. and im only 15

  • a 405 half squat is ok, but if he went all the way down with 330 it'd be way more so. anyone who wants to argue full squats are bad for you knees go ahead and do so, but i'll happily send you research proving the opposite. As far as a clean and jerk, technically its a push jerk with press out, anyone who has ever done proper olympic lifts can tell you it wouldn't count in a compettion, Football coaches are football coaches, not weightlifting coaches. they should stick to what they know best.

  • agreed, half squats not only place undue stress on the knees and hips, but also can injure the hamstrings. I just wish people would work exercises through a full range of motion. Would the same person who is satisfied with half or parallel squats only do half the range of motion on bench, or curls, or pull ups? It's not 1960, full squats have been proven to not be harmful.
