Haha....the term "City by the Bay" refers to San Francisco. It only makes sense that it refers to San Francisco as Its more than just a city by the bay. The city is the peninsula that closes off the Pacific from the bay minus the small opening under the Golden Gate Bridge. lol

I live in Miami and driving from the beach to Miami on the cause was this song came on. So I can see why people who live a city that has a bay can relate. But yes it's San Francisco...

@BlackOppTamama Well, Yeah, The song is about S.F., But it was supposed to be about L.A. when Steve Perry first suggested the idea to the band, Buts that's just when they were writing the song, of course they wrote the lyrics to reflect San Francisco at some point early on, Cause that's where they were from, And again, I heard that on the Greg Kihn show.
