  • is that chiang rai?

  • @TheBaafarang No, Maha Sarakham , Issan.

  • @lifeinthailand-When the contractor was building the house my sister in law lives in he was working on two other houses at the same time and going broke and couldn't make payroll and his help all quit. So, my wife had to hire the unemployed neighbors and it was planting season. Meanwhile, since she paid some of the cost up front and the job wasn't finished, her sisters took of his welder. I finally had to talk my sisters in law into giving the poor fool his welder back.

  • @doggydimepicker Sounds just like the problems were having, The contractor is no longer answering his phone, No work done in over a week, Its been a 3 month battle so far, Can't wait for it to be over.

  • My wife is from Sai Khao, north of Phan in Chiang Rai Province. We plan to retire there soon and she wants to build a house. I'm just hoping it's a small one with a sit down toilet. Like the heavy roof tiles. We built another house that her sister lives in with cheaper tiles and the roof leaks. In an old wooden farm house my wife owns the toilet is an old squat type, and I've been known to miss the target more than once while visiting her family, especially after eating a lot of peppers.

  • @doggydimepicker The squat toilet is one of my lease favorite parts of visiting the mother in law, The cold shower is a very close 2nd. Building a house has been a nightmare from the start, I don't wish this on anyone, Most days I wish I never started.

Good luck on your build, Buy a house already finished if you can.

  • @lifeinthailand LOL about the squat pots.I don't like them either. When I'm doing my business, I prefer reasonable stability rather than do a circus balancing act. Cool showers feel good on really hot days, but not so great in cooler weather. I assume you'll be installing one of those electric heaters for the shower.

  • @NightBazaar Yes the hot water on demand hot water heater that most places in Thailand have, I have a hot water tank in my house in Pattaya but with that you have to keep a tank of water hot 24 hours a day, Hugh waste of electric IMO.

  • @lifeinthailand Agreed. Hot water on demand seems like a better way to go in most circumstances. What are you having done for electrical grounding of your new house?

  • @NightBazaar Grounding rod but no details yet, That is a long way off right now. lol

  • that was very interesting to watch. my sons are roofers by trade and do put on cement tiles besides the standard asphalt and cedar shingles

  • @mommarox2 Dianne, Thanks for watching. I don't think that I ever seen any cement tiles in Canada, Maybe I should have looks harder. lol

  • Coming along nicely, I was surprised to see steel being used is that standard practice. At least you won't have any termite problems.

  • @dalecalder2003 Steel is normal here, The roof tile is very heavy so wood is out of the question and termites would eat everything. The roof is finished now and the block for the walls are ordered, Slowly moving forward.

  • @TokoUshikawa Our insulation looks like aluminum foil, Nothing for the bugs to eat. It is designed to reflect UV rays, Doing so should help keep the house cool.

  • never heard of a welded house before.

  • @RU2BFREE67 It has to be welded if it is made of steel.

  • @lifeinthailand i mean houses are usually made of wood.

  • @RU2BFREE67 In North America yes, But not in most other countries.

  • @lifeinthailand ok then i learned something. would rather see trees spared anyways.

  • @RU2BFREE67 Everywhere does things a little different, Thanks for taking an interest.

  • @RU2BFREE67 In the past, wood was often used in building houses in Thailand. But as the population grew, it became less practical. Too many trees had been harvested. Brick was also common in building various structures. a lot of lumber that's used in houses today come from businesses that buy or scavange lumber from old places being torn down, then stockpile and resell it. Most of the time it's for decorative features, rather than structural support though.

  • Getting there... Hope the welds hold....

    Hope it gets finished soon...

    Have a great one...

  • @bnbob01 The roof was finished today, Just waiting on a picture to confirm. Slowly moving ahead, But no blocks have been ordered for the walls so it might be another 3 week holiday. lol Contractors suck!

  • @lifeinthailand Yep...

    **nods**

    No matter what country !!!

  • @bnbob01 Your right there, Building in any country is a nightmare, Be happy when it is over with.

  • Very nice to see the progress is coming along better than earlier. It's going to look impressive when it's finished. Looking forward to more of the continuing construction.

  • @NightBazaar Slowly coming along, Roof should be finished this week, But they have not ordered the super block for the walls so there well be another delay when the roof is finished.

  • Awesome, can't wait to see the finish product.

  • @kxtone Me too, Early next year should be done, Its a slow process.

  • Quite a nice view from up on the second floor. Will you have a small balcony up there from a room?

  • @quicksilvver There is a small balcony off the master bedroom, Looking towards the road.

  • nice house! cant wait to see it finished!

  • @oneanother1 Thanks, Its going slow but still moving in the right direction.

  • make a video if it collapses when its done once!

  • @dariolo Now that's not nice, lol

But if it does fall down I well make a video for sure. lol

  • @lifeinthailand of course i dont want that to happen ,man! trust me 0..0

  • Hi Cod, I just received the TD link of yours and I'm now watching that guy welding... Appears, with that height and panning the neighbors... yours is somewhat a skyscraper for them peasants to put up!!!... LoL R U planning any escalators to make it easy for folks around the village when house warming lights up? Good job and soon, your mini mansion will be a monumental talk of the town... !!! Keep more vids coming... great shooting too.. :)

  • @UgoIgo Trust me I am already the talk of the town, But that's life in a small village. Thanks for watching.

  • That's a big house. What's your budget? I'm thinking 2 million ???

  • @Bangkokables The house is 2.6M and a overall budget of 3M. I went with a fixed bid price on the house to eliminate as many surprises as I could, Good luck with your build.

  • Congratulation with your new home coming up, nice project.

  • Some of those welds looked pretty bad. Hopefully it all holds up well!

  • @magcshroom I think they all look bad, But I have almost 20 years of welding inspection background so I have a good idea what it should look like, That being said these welds are strong enough for there intended purpose, I hope.

  • Very nice video indeed and a nice landscape!!

  • @nonwanfai It looks nice this time of year but for about 8 or 9 months the farms are brown and ugly. lol

  • Hi Paul - looking good - definitely need the insulation - looks like tinfoil - makes a big difference - all the best !.

  • @dutchethai I have it, Just forgot to get it in the video, Hope the guys remembered to use it...lol

  • look like its going to be a big house

  • @cavealaska1 180 sqm, Looks kind of small to me but is still more house than I need. Thanks for watching.
