Do not twist Scripture to imply that the Church is somehow empowered to refuse to forgive men's sins. Read in spiritual coherence & in context, Christ makes it very plain in the Gospel that His disciples are to forgive men their sins - not use them as bargaining chips!

well I feel that really it doesn't even have to take symbols to show what I'm about to say. If we look at the history of the past Roman empires we can see that it is a system. Correction: Christ did give to His Apostles the power to forgive men's sins......BUT....in His Name; NOT on their own authority! Therein lies the key to understanding.

However, He did not authorize them to hold men's sins 'over their heads", or use them as bargaining chips - or the basis for literal extortion!

Forgiveness of sin is like exorcism: it is done in the Name of Christ, with & by Christ's power....not that of men!
