Im talking about not dying of natural causes though. Even if you do die of unnatural causes, there are also methods of reviving you within a certain time frame.

In this HL2 speech Breen says that the suppression field has taken away the urge for Humans to reproduce. But in HL2: EP1 in Kliener's televised speech he only says that the suppression field inhibitits the growth of certain proteins necessary for embryonic development.
Breen seems to imply that the suppression field destroys the urge for people to have sex while Kliener seems to imply that the device only acts as a form of birth control which only prevents pregnancy.
I think the theory of it taking away the ability to reproduce is more feasible, rather than changing the neurological impulses that are what make us humans. But I suppose both sides of the argument can be debated upon.
Interestingly, Breen does bring up an interesting argument: Population control is going to be a real issue in the near future. What If there were a way to prevent people from breeding with a flick of a switch? What if it 'could' be for the better? cause we all know, sooner or later, at the rate the world population is growing. Something is going to happen.
It's completely upto the benefits versus the costs. Is it going to help the majority? or a minority? In the case of HL2, it was for the purpose of an alien agenda which the subjects had no say in. I'm certain if the people wanted it, the suppression field would stay on.

As someone said, it's set in Eastern Europe and City 17 is based on a number of cities there ... primarily Sofia, Bulgaria.

I find living in City 17 is a lot like living in a Soviet-Communistic country or state.
Propaganda everywhere (Breen), oppressive law officials (Civil Protection) , Short supplies of food and water, and an uprising that would eventually destroy City 17 (Soviet Union collapsing under rebellion)

In this HL2 speech Breen says that the suppression field has taken away the urge for Humans to reproduce. But in HL2: EP1 in Kliener's televised speech he only says that the suppression field inhibitits the growth of certain proteins necessary for embryonic development.
Breen seems to imply that the suppression field destroys the urge for people to have sex while Kliener seems to imply that the device only acts as a form of birth control which only prevents pregnancy.
Plot hole?

I think the theory of it taking away the ability to reproduce is more feasible, rather than changing the neurological impulses that are what make us humans. But I suppose both sides of the argument can be debated upon.

Interestingly, Breen does bring up an interesting argument: Population control is going to be a real issue in the near future. What If there were a way to prevent people from breeding with a flick of a switch? What if it 'could' be for the better? cause we all know, sooner or later, at the rate the world population is growing. Something is going to happen.

It's completely upto the benefits versus the costs. Is it going to help the majority? or a minority? In the case of HL2, it was for the purpose of an alien agenda which the subjects had no say in. I'm certain if the people wanted it, the suppression field would stay on.
