IT is Pakistan not US which is to be blamed. Pakistan motivated US in going against the Soviets and in using Taliban. US did not have to stay back and support Taliban or Pakistan. Pakistan should have supported with its own funds, it was its work as it was its territory. Its ISI cultivated Afghan Taliban.

Eric Margolis is again wrong on so many counts. First to suggest Afghanistan, a sovereign country, is Pakistan's BACKYARD. That term is deeply insulting towards the afghan people. Afghanistan doesn't need anyones approval to decide who to be friends with. He fails to mention how destablizing pakistani policies have been towards Afghanistan & insteads calls Indias aid of $1.2 billion 'stirring the pot'.

This man is indeed an expert on the political issues in the region and know the scenario better , but have to mention one thing that the solution to the puzzle is to operate in east side of Pakistan where there are plenty of insurgency and are treated very well by the ISI because Pakistan is in danger and they use them against the Indians . most of them are Arabs, Chechens, Panjabis and etc. now the US ,NATO are operating in a wrong places inside Afghanistan.

Nations, like Pakistan, with flawed ideas clutch to the imaginary glories of the past and create delusions of grandeur. So what if the moghuls ruled? So did the Hindus, the Sikhs, the Buddhists, the Brits, the French etc. The moghuls influenced only 40% of the sub-continent.  Not a big achievement to feel envious or glorious of them.
