I hate the fact everyone seems to think either Travis or the band were trying to replace someone. Music is a journey and through it people are lost, but music keeps living. Everyone in this band before/after have always been a true musician at heart, Travis has AMAZING vocals, stage presence, and writing abilities. In the end, it didn't work, but music keeps going. Either way, I love watching the two videos and to see how far Travis has come through his heart and work. San Luis is waiting.

Its not simply because shannon is no longer with us that blind melon arnt very good now, the bigger issue is that their songs and material are just boring and very mono tone. Theres so much range between no rain, mouthful of cavities, dump truck, saint andrews fall and dear ol dad, the new blind melon dont have that winning formula that the old blind melon had and i dont think travis is to blame, when u work on a band album it either comes together or it dosnt, even pearl jam fucked up sometimes
I don't find the new record monotone or boring at all. For My Friends shows the band is phenomenally talented and Travis is a great singer. It's true the lyrics and attitude are not as magical or mercurial -- how can they be without Shannon? -- but Melon still rock with those sweet, catchy melodies and angsty, questing songs.
The new album is food but the only problem is that their playing styles have changed (not so much chris though) and their sound is a bit too polished sounding for my taste.

They're crisp, edgy sounds filled with the familiar melodic tones we're used to hearing. The music is just as good, if not better, and the lyrics are far and away some of my favorites. Don't get me wrong, old Blind Melon stands alone, but if you're gonna replace Shannon, then they made the perfect choice. Rock on, Blind Melon lovers, new and old, Travis and the rest of Blind Melon are gonna blow you away. Go get their new CD, go see them live, they're effing epic.

I know I'll get bashed for this but Shannon Hoon was a good showman but "best voice ever"???? I'm a musician and always loved the band and had to ignore the screaching vocals. I'm a huge Zeppelin fan and I say the same about Plant.
I personally think its great that they are back to play new songs along with Shannons older lyrical masterpieces. Regardless what some may think blind melon was always a band & its nice to see the band move on as we all have to do when life kicks u in the ass.

Blind Melon wasn't just Shannon, although obviously he was a key piece of the jigsaw. I saw them about 7 times now and 5 with Travis. Great then and great again.

It sounds like anything else on the radio. I love the band's composure and structure, but man...imagine how much better it would be if Shannon was singing. He had that raw emotion and sincerity in his voice that few artists could match. I'm sorry but I don't like the new guy. I think they should have regrouped under another name.
This song is not bad...It is just..mm..insignificant. The singer is good, but he is no way close to shannon. IMHO Shannon had a deep, kinda bluesy approach to singing like some guys in southern rock bands sing. He combined that with grunges' melodic structures. This guy sings like any other singer with a good voice.

don't know what to make of it. with Shannon, I fell in love with the voice as well as the band (I'm sure I'm not the only one)but now with Travis, I just can't get into the voice. I hate to compare the two and it's isn't all that bad of a voice but maybe a name change wouldn't hurt. Blind Melon are legends but time has changed and until I hear a bit of greatness, this (new blind melon) will sit aside.

I've been contemplating it since this video came out and I really believe that the problem isn't voice or melody, but poetry. The lyrics just aren't as insightful as the Hoon days. Comparing "Just to hear your scratchy voice" to "I'm more at home in my Galaxie", It's obvious which is better.
I Got into Blind Melon about 2 years ago and have literally been listening to them straight since then. This line-up is not, in my mind, near as good as the Classic (with Hoon). It's still good, but Hoon was Great!

Personally I'm impressed. I've been waiting to see the band back together for years. their sound (even without Shannon) is untouched by all others. They grew up playing music together and should continue doing the same. Shannon can never be replaced, but Travis does a hell of a job carrying the groove. I'll be at the shows for sure.
The band will be known as Blind Melon even though they have reunited with a new vocalist. Unified Theory has since disbanded with the members moving onto new (or old) projects.
I can't wait until they go on tour!! I am just so glad they are back so that I don't have to listen to all the gay shit that most new bands are coming out with!!

Give these cats the respect they deserve...Compare Travis's lead vocals to say The Drive By Trucker's Lead Singer...it's not Shannon - - but they set a groove...listen to the hooks of the guitar. Listen to the harmony / chorus in the middle of the song...it's worthy of a listen...and as a fan, I tip my hats off to the gents in the band who are going to try to get something going...talk to the Black Crowes and tour with them...the fan base will love it.

Come on give it a chance. It rally picks up after the intro . After a few listens it kinda grows on you. Try to figure out the lyrics. Seems to have alot of Shannon references.

I know I'll get bashed for this but Shannon Hoon was a good showman but "best voice ever"???? I'm a musician and always loved the band and had to ignore the screaching vocals. I'm a huge Zeppelin fan and I say the same about Plant.

I personally think its great that they are back to play new songs along with Shannons older lyrical masterpieces. Regardless what some may think blind melon was always a band & its nice to see the band move on as we all have to do when life kicks u in the ass.
We all know nobody can replace Shannon, but perhaps Warren can take this band on a different positive direction. It seems that way cause this song is very enticing, which is hard to say after only listening to a song once. Keep on rock'n!

It sounds like anything else on the radio. I love the band's composure and structure, but man...imagine how much better it would be if Shannon was singing. He had that raw emotion and sincerity in his voice that few artists could match. I'm sorry but I don't like the new guy. I think they should have regrouped under another name.

This song is not bad...It is just..mm..insignificant. The singer is good, but he is no way close to shannon. IMHO Shannon had a deep, kinda bluesy approach to singing like some guys in southern rock bands sing. He combined that with grunges' melodic structures. This guy sings like any other singer with a good voice.

don't know what to make of it. with Shannon, I fell in love with the voice as well as the band (I'm sure I'm not the only one)but now with Travis, I just can't get into the voice. I hate to compare the two and it's isn't all that bad of a voice but maybe a name change wouldn't hurt. Blind Melon are legends but time has changed and until I hear a bit of greatness, this (new blind melon) will sit aside.

He is singing soulful stuff with a band he really idolises, i would love to do the same... please give him/them a (new) chance. Good luck to them all, I will probably buy the new album.

I've been contemplating it since this video came out and I really believe that the problem isn't voice or melody, but poetry. The lyrics just aren't as insightful as the Hoon days. Comparing "Just to hear your scratchy voice" to "I'm more at home in my Galaxie", It's obvious which is better.

I Got into Blind Melon about 2 years ago and have literally been listening to them straight since then. This line-up is not, in my mind, near as good as the Classic (with Hoon). It's still good, but Hoon was Great!

Personally I'm impressed. I've been waiting to see the band back together for years. their sound (even without Shannon) is untouched by all others. They grew up playing music together and should continue doing the same. Shannon can never be replaced, but Travis does a hell of a job carrying the groove. I'll be at the shows for sure.

All I have to say is that you don't replace a Shannon Hoon. I like the new stuff besides that fact. I am not looking for a ghost of Shannon Hoon to re-appear as the vocalist, but it sure is nice to see them carry on.
Chris Shinn (Unified Theory and Everything Is Energy) is close, Travis is almost as good. Regardless, I like the fact they are back together again, whatever the reasons. It's good music. Soak it in.

MANY said the same about AC/DC, and altho I do appreciate Bon Scott quite a bit more than Brian Johnson, can you really imagine life w/o Back in Black/For Those About to Rock/Hells Bells/Shoot to Thrill/R&RaNP. Give these cats the respect they deserve...Compare Travis's lead vocals to say The Drive By Trucker's Lead Singer...it's not Shannon - - but they set a groove...listen to the hooks of the guitar. Listen to the harmony / chorus in the middle of the song...it's worthy of a listen...and as a fan, I tip my hats off to the gents in the band who are going to try to get something going...talk to the Black Crowes and tour with them...the fan base will love it.
