Apparently I can't... turn off my Zen 8GB. It suddenly froze during the song, buttons dont respond at all. I still can power it up but why should I if i can do nothing with it. Reset didn't help too.
Does anyone know which video of a song that was on this player as standard? Looking for the name of it was something like 'sparta'.. with alot of balloons and stuff I remember..

Its like how easy does the buttons push themselves if you have them in a pocket while walking or whatever, tried that with phones? yea they got a keylock and yet it can manage to lock up and dial a random number. Seriously its getting old with same problems but HEY its looking good.
i think the best thing about this player is the battery life, you only need to charge awhile and it can be use for a long time...

I can get 30+ hours out of mine, even with the screen on the lowest brightness setting the screen is still plenty bright, I had it on the lowest setting for two years until last night when I said "hmm, I wonder how bright the screen goes" I turned the brightness all the way up and I could use the screen as a flashlight, I just set it to a white picture and turned the screen up to the brightest setting.

It's definitely good BUT, it's really weird with pc's. Having the device randomly not be recognized by your pc is incredibly common and is what happened to me. I would save your money on this one.

The only thing that pisses me off about this player is the fact that you can't set all your stored videos to play in a sequence, I have a bunch of music videos stored on it and I don't want to manually have to play each of them individually while I'm driving in my car. Does anyone know if it's possible to play all of the videos sequentially?

My Zen will connect to my computer, and the "What do you want to do with this device?" box comes up. When I select Zen Media Explorer or WMP, it says, "No device found." I can't put new music on my Zen!
@HarvestmanMan i had same problem, here is the solution.Go to my computer, click connected device or what ever pops up for you ( iots located underneath the hardrives) and then it will take you to the mp3's folder.From there copy and paste the videos or music or photos to the corresponding folder .hope that helps
After some research I have discovered that the problem with the sync manager not recognising the Zen player is to do with windows media player 11, if you have older firmware and you have 11 you will have the problem the solution on XP is uninstall 11 and upgrade the Zen firmware, trouble is you cannot do this on win 7 because you cannot uninstall media player! so its up to creative to sort it out! (in other words throw the Zen in the bin and get an ipod!)
If you go to the website Creative now has software that supports Windows 7. Its called Creative Centrale software. I love this media player...and it DOES play videos which the software will format any video so that it will play on the player.
I tried that! installed it on the computer from the creative site and when I went to the sync manager it kept saying "there is no player connected" even though it was! on XP the sync manager would allow me to pull media from all over the pc most importantly from itunes! the sync manager simply doesn't recodnise the device when its plugged in! I was at it for hours! I may have to use my old laptop just to download podcasts!
@katakisLives Dude, this may be a good thing for me. I think that means the you don't have to sync the device. You can just copy over your video/audio files into a folder you create on the zen as it shows up as a drive in your win.explorer.
@AmaraKoreda I just found it really inconvenient the way I couldn't use the sync manager on Win 7 the way I'd done on XP for ages!, I'm past all this now I use Windows media player, I download the podcasts in iTunes then copy/paste to desktop and use the media player sync manager.

Wouldn't it be easier to download the podcast straight from the web browser, save it and copy it over to the mp3 player (drag and drop?) This way no conversion is needed and no need for itunes or media player. I have thousands of mp3s. If I want them onto my mp3 player, I simply drag and drop them to a folder on my mp3 player (coz it shows up like a drive). In fact, I can store any files (like office etc) on it.
@AmaraKoreda I use iTunes for my podcasts because its easier! its a one stop shop for all of them! its okay to download from browser if you only subscribe 2 a few podcasts but I have loads and loads from places like Cnet and 1up ect it would take ages going to different sites to collect them all! the best analogy is why go to a separate grocer's butcher's ect when you can get it all from one Supermarket iTunes is the podcast supermarket and syncing can make mass file transfers easier than 1 by1
@denylach Yeah! I know about drag & drop! I copy/paste the files to the desktop then use Windows media player to get them onto the Zen player! I was just disappointed at the time that the sync manager that had worked so well on XP was useless on Win 7! its no longer an issue anymore.
My biggest disappointment with the Zen is that you cannot expand the memory using the SD card slot! whats the point in having an SD card slot if you cannot use it to directly expand the memory? it is a really bad oversight by the makers!
The limitations of the SD functionality are the least of my Zen problems now! how about installing the sync manager on Win 7 only to find it doesn't detect the player even though the site calls it Win 7 compatible, forcing you to use Win media player (which seems to be responsible for the problem in the first place)
@katakisLives never worries me I never use the software a hardware company comes out with or adopt any OS before it's been out for at least 12 months.
Thats a very wise thing to do but if you buy a new computer with all the new software on it there's not much you can do about it! you are forced to make do.
@katakisLives which is why my biggest rule is never buy stock. any comp you buy custom you can choose your OS get the top of the line hardware and it still comes out to a similar price as a stock system unless you compare it to a mac then you save tons on the difference.
That's all very well if you know what you are doing! but building a PC from the ground up is miles outside my PC know how! if I went custom it would be a disaster!
@katakisLives gotta get yourself a geek friend. My hardware knowhow ends at recognizing components. But you'd be surprised how many people you meet that'll provide the labor side of building a PC just to get to play with good components which are easily affordable online. For that type saying I wanna build a core i7 system from scratch gets them hot and bothered.
My computer is not detecting my mp3 player when I connect it. When I connect it (mp3 player) to the port, it makes the sound of a successful connection, but the Zen Media Explorer says it's not connected. Help!

@Candlegiglia , well it depends on how you use it. But if you want to be able to import the files from the sd card to the player, you have the single option to import all. So that means if you have a 4gb player with 8gb sd card, then there can't be more then 4gb data being stored on the sd card or you can't import all. I can't import anything from my sd card now i guess, because there's too much stored on it. So instead of 4+8=12 you would use 8.
@Solution2012 , so to effectively use 8gb and being able to import files would need 2 sd cards with both stored 4gb data on it. Well i copy/paste files now through pc so i don't need the options, but with creative options only wouldn't be that great. So i DO use 12gb but i can't copy anything without computer between sd card and player.

I got it today its great, best player I had so far and yes it can play movies avi xvid wmv and some other formats i think u need them to convert to 320x240 resolutio tho
i heard that you need to tap the screen multiple times to get it to work and its a bit frustrating that they dont provide a pen?? is that true? or does it come with a drag thingy like the iPod touch?
the only thing that you need to tap twice sometimes is the unlocking bubble, (if you buy it youll know what i mean) but with the new firmware its good
my display's backlight quit and is pretty much useless now. tried their support measures NG. No parts are offered, not in warr . I liked it for 1.5 years. Froze a lot. Support is very poor after warranty

The limitations of the SD functionality are the least of my Zen problems now! how about installing the sync manager on Win 7 only to find it doesn't detect the player even though the site calls it Win 7 compatible, forcing you to use Win media player (which seems to be responsible for the problem in the first place)

Thats a very wise thing to do but if you buy a new computer with all the new software on it there's not much you can do about it! you are forced to make do.

@katakisLives which is why my biggest rule is never buy stock. any comp you buy custom you can choose your OS get the top of the line hardware and it still comes out to a similar price as a stock system unless you compare it to a mac then you save tons on the difference.

That's all very well if you know what you are doing! but building a PC from the ground up is miles outside my PC know how! if I went custom it would be a disaster!

@katakisLives gotta get yourself a geek friend. My hardware knowhow ends at recognizing components. But you'd be surprised how many people you meet that'll provide the labor side of building a PC just to get to play with good components which are easily affordable online. For that type saying I wanna build a core i7 system from scratch gets them hot and bothered.

My computer is not detecting my mp3 player when I connect it. When I connect it (mp3 player) to the port, it makes the sound of a successful connection, but the Zen Media Explorer says it's not connected. Help!

@Candlegiglia , well it depends on how you use it. But if you want to be able to import the files from the sd card to the player, you have the single option to import all. So that means if you have a 4gb player with 8gb sd card, then there can't be more then 4gb data being stored on the sd card or you can't import all. I can't import anything from my sd card now i guess, because there's too much stored on it. So instead of 4+8=12 you would use 8.

@Solution2012 , so to effectively use 8gb and being able to import files would need 2 sd cards with both stored 4gb data on it. Well i copy/paste files now through pc so i don't need the options, but with creative options only wouldn't be that great. So i DO use 12gb but i can't copy anything without computer between sd card and player.

i heard that you need to tap the screen multiple times to get it to work and its a bit frustrating that they dont provide a pen?? is that true? or does it come with a drag thingy like the iPod touch?

the only thing that you need to tap twice sometimes is the unlocking bubble, (if you buy it youll know what i mean) but with the new firmware its good

my display's backlight quit and is pretty much useless now. tried their support measures NG. No parts are offered, not in warr . I liked it for 1.5 years. Froze a lot. Support is very poor after warranty
