  • Dreamy :) You sure have a shoegaze-talent**

  • @DeepEmoticPhoria9 haha Thanks!

  • Posted the comment below with my other channel (old)

  • What I start with now is... behringer.... phaser, delay, stereo reverb,compresser... and on my boss me70.... more delay reverb and anything else you would need...and a volume pedal would also help a lot to make the swell... or just use your volume nob on your guitar... Awsome video!

  • @flyboy101100 Sounds great to me! Volume pedals do make it easier. :)

  • @Passenger95 hey this is ihaveaverybadcold i bought an interface please have a listen of some of my stuff and lemme know what ya think...im not really good with mixing so for some reason i can get the sound to sound good out of crappy speakers so if you have a good paiir of headphones or speakers that would be awesome...anyways...always love this song!!

  • What hosway said. What pedals are you using? A guide through your pedalboard would be great. I want to get into making ambient and droning sounds myself, but I don't know exactly where to start. I've a delay pedal already but I'm guessing I need some more of them and maybe a looper. Still not totally sure.

  • @Bornbroke013 I'll do a pedalboard update video soon. :) For now, check my channel, and I have a video on doing ambient swells.

  • I would love to know what pedals you have! :D this is the kind of music i would love to make

  • @hosway1992 I need to do an update video really soon. Basically this was swelled with a Damage Control Timeline, Diamond Memory Lane, and Arion SAD-1, and then looped with another Timeline. :)

  • This is amazing man, well done!

  • @dimeowns100 Thanks so much!

  • SO MANY PEDALS

  • @ErgotEpiphany lol Unfortunately true.

  • reminds me of Blade Runner

  • @tbros2000 Thanks! Vangelis is one of my favorite composers...I can't get away from it. haha

  • are just using a volume pedal at the beggining?

  • @MsWoodenshoe Ya, for the swells...but I'm looping swells on top of each other.

  • i wish i had a soundtrack like this that goes on for hours while i go to sleep -_-

  • @BIRDINTHEHOUZE Well, if you really want, I've got an album in the link below the video. There's a hidden track that runs all 12 songs together for about 80 minutes of nonstop ambience. :)

  • Sounds like pink floyd hehe

  • @pinchejuarezfeo haha Yep...I basically just rip off David Gilmour. That's all I am. ;)

  • very nice harmonies but a lot of hissing in the background

  • @dockaiser That's the camera mic. If you look at the text below the video, you can find where the actual mic'd and recorded properly version of this song is and listen to it there. :) Cheers!

  • is that a space ship or a pedal bourd

  • @deth800lg a little bit of both

  • @youknowyourrite1 Good form.

  • @deth800lg What 'youknow' said. ;)

  • This is the music I listen to on my submarine.

  • @skitforbrains What a coincidence...me too! ;) hehe

  • You have a pedal problem. Get help.

  • @ihventura This is not the first time that's been said. ;)

  • NICE!!! :) Hearing this Relaxes me!!!

  • @hectordelgado62485 Thanks a ton! :)

  • Like this its what im all about.

  • @SLRPHOTOS <3

  • @Passenger95 hey got a question for ya pls......what are you using to record the sound with on this video? and if its just a camera what kinda camera is it....i would like to start posting vids up but i dont want to have crappy sound and this sounds pretty good! anyways thx for your vids i love watchin em

  • @ihaveaverybadcold This is just the camera mic. It's not bad, really. But I also had a mic on the amp into a tube preamp for the actual mp3 version on the album.

  • whot is a goat keeper?

  • @cyclodelia It's a tremolo pedal with a ton of options. :)

  • Can you explain how you're using the various pedals? I love the sounds you're getting and am trying to work on some more ambient sounds myself. Not sure where to start...

  • @aj633 Basically, there's a digital delay at the heart of it all, set to a slow time setting with a lot of repeats. There's a volume pedal prior to that, so I hit the note with the volume pedal down, then swell in, and the delay takes it. Then there's a bunch of other delays around it to meld everything together, and a parallel loop at the end mixing in a double octave up pedal with a reverb pedal at full mix. :)

  • Is that a Goatkeeper I see in the middle?

  • @xrybearx No, that's a Diamond Memory Lane. I don't think I had the Goatkeeper at this point. :)

  • Wow, your whole check must go to your power bill? NIce pedal chain.

  • @mixolydian671 lol Guess so. :)

  • Great videos, Passenger95. I was wondering, do you know if the tap tempo "strum feature" of the DC Timeline can be programmed into a Midimate or is it just (foot-tapping) tap tempo.

I need a controller for program changes and tap tempo and am trying to decide on one. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks for the vids.

  • @bobob13131 I'm not sure if strum tempo can be programmed into the midi. Send a quick email to the guys at Strymon though...they're great at getting back to questions about their pedals!

  • I LOVE IT DUDE!

  • @thecomfortisnow Thanks!! :)

  • Comment removed

  • @Spyroid77 Passenger95 did just write us an essay on the universe and a connection to god. Didn't you watch the video?

  • @MisterHam86 Aye, ok. You got me there ;)

  • @MisterHam86 ...Sometimes things don't come out like you mean them to ;) Maybe I should have said something like; Wow, deep piece of music, that. Hearing it for the first time made me think and feel all kinds of things that I haven't for a while.

Also very close to what my personal idea of what a guitar instrumental should sound like atm.

    ... Hows that? Heh :)

  • @Spyroid77 @MisterHam86 I didn't see the original comment, but thanks for the kind words in the ensuing ones! haha

  • sounds good. ignore the whiners.

  • @midigods haha Thanks!! :)

  • Would you be so kind as to list your pedals? In particular your favourites.

Thank you for this video........I'm impressed.

  • @Corinth6 Thanks! Um...my board has changed so much since this video, I'm not sure I remember all of them. But some of my favorites here were the Damage Control Timeline, Arion SAD-1, Diamond Memory Lane, Boss RV3, EH POG, and Subdecay Quasar. :)

  • You have all that equipment and you can't be bothered to plug the sound directly into your video capturing device??

  • @timacann Please read the video description, where I mention having a mic'd and produced version of this performance available on mp3.

  • kinda boring for me. lots of bells and whistles down on the floor you could just do that on a synth though.

  • @comeonjerks I prefer the sound of guitar to keyboard for ambient stuff. I do understand that it bored you, though. But personally, I kind of like it. To each his own. :)

  • Beautiful man .... Absolutely beautiful

  • @pritch1964 Thank you!! :)

  • man that's really good stuff!

  • @Heineken1712 Thanks for the kind words!!

  • this is something from beyond, to be honest. took my breath away. i can actually feel the tranquility. i've been searching for something similar a long time now. i'll be keeping a close eye on your stuff, keep up the good work :)

  • @TheEL337dude Thanks, I really appreciate it. :-)

  • YES!! this is what I have been looking for, many thanks for uploading...

  • @OnlineMeditation Thanks.

  • bravo. very blade runner

  • @miko1975guitar Thanks a ton! That's actually one of my favorite films, and I think subconsciously it's what I'm always trying to write. haha

  • Great stuff!!

  • @locoboxspaceship Thanks!!

  • someone with as many pedals as me thank God ;)) awesome , got a great adrenalinnIII mate , very cool ;) subbed and look forward to more ;)

  • @shredknowledge Thanks! And ya...I'm always looking for epople with lots of pedals so I can feel okay about myself. lol

  • Essence of Coldplay :)

  • @manycoatsmg haha Thanks a ton! :-)

  • Nice!

  • @jasonspacestation Thanks!!

  • wow this is brilliant yet beautiful...

  • @TiANr0ckst4r Thanks for the kind words! :-)

  • wow deep!check me ot pls!

  • @praterzensey Thanks!

  • very cool song. What all do you have on your pedalboard? I can't see everything but I'd like to know how you're getting all those sounds. :)

  • @morganchavis Let's see...my board's changed a bit since then, but I think the basic sounds in this video were from two DC Timeline's, an Arion SAD-1, a Diamond Memory Lane, a George Dennis volume pedal, a Subdecay Quasar phaser, and a Boss RV3 in tandem with an EH POG. Oh, and a Hartman Germanium fuzz and a Hermida Mosferatu. :-)

  • seems like it would be hard to make the same song twice with all whats goind on.....or does it get easier when you get used to using all those pedals??

  • @ihaveaverybadcold Ya, most of my songs are a mix between a base melodic and harmonic theme, with a story in mind, and then between some improvisation on top of it. So I almost never play the same song exactly the same way twice. :-)

  • @Passenger95 well you got to some awesome music to say the least....im finally gettin my pedal board started....after years of hiatus i guess you could say....two strymon on there way to my house right now!! im so freakin excited hahah

  • @ihaveaverybadcold Thanks a ton! And how're the Strymon's? :-)

  • @Passenger95 lovin em!..i just bought a fulltone ocd and mixed with the blue sky i can get i guess as close as you can to a gilmour esque type tone with out spendin thousands...i need to ask you a question btw...in order for me to have a lot of sustain i turn my decay up on the blue sky a lot...but the notes kinda run into each other...is a compressor gonna help that so that i can turn decay down and here more of the guitar? i have a gnl and a super reverb so i know its not my amp...love ur vids

  • @ihaveaverybadcold Ya, compressors do help that. I find however, that I prefer the sustain from changing my strings and giving my guitar a new setup/intonation first. If that still doesn't help, then maybe some compression. :-) Also, the pre-delay knob on the Blue Sky is very useful, and can help give sustain without having to have the decay too high. Cheers!

  • @Passenger95 ahh ok i didnt even think of that....i have the pre delay set at zero thx!!

  • This sounds like Monster's Ball soundtrack .

Thanks for this piece of art .

  • @djbachiraul7 Thanks a ton. Really appreciate that!

  • @Passenger95 how long did it take to aquire all those pedals....had all mine stolen years back and havent really bought any since then....they werent that great of pedals i think the best one i had was dd-5 and now that ive heard of strymon ill never go back to a boss delay....but man the really good pedals seem to always be in the 300 dollar range..

  • @ihaveaverybadcold I know...unfortunately the good ones usually seem to be expensive. It took me a good few years for this, but now most of them are gone and I have others...my board is constantly flowing in and out. lol

  • did you turn on reverse reverb and turn the dry signal down, kinda sounds like it, but very cool sound

  • @TheFilmCreator1 It was actually a full mix reverb going into a double octave POG, and then within a lower-mixed parallel looper. The POG, when run that way, kind of gives off this interesting, reverse-flange-verby sound. haha

  • sounds amazing! So are the pads on your site no longer free?

  • @bmwz20 They're still free if you email me about 'em. Sorry, I had too many people misusing them.

  • @TheChannelSeventeen Hmm...I don't quite remember all the settings for this particular song, but it's mostly just long delays. If you check out my 10 part series on 'Using Delay in Modern Music' over on my blog or channel, that would probably give you a bunch of great settings for this stuff. :-) Hope that helps!

  • Dang. I'm drooling over your setup. I want a Diamond Memory Lane II soooo bad.

  • @mrhauskins Ya, such a killer pedal! :-)

  • Nice pedal board

  • @wags126126 Thanks! Unfortunately, I've gotta rebuild it now! :-)

  • This is absolutely incredible, thank you. Peace.

  • @pr0llyn0t Thanks for the kind words! :-)

  • Beautiful

  • @sliverhandsonbasses Thanks! :-)

  • Question, do you have your Timeline's in the bypass looper? Do you have your MLv1 in the looper?

  • @cosmogang Yep! Every pedal is in its one section of the bypass looper. Volume pedal, too! :-)

  • what delays are u using? sounds awesome

  • @gregells Thanks! Two DC Timeline's, a Diamond Memory Lane, and an Arion SAD-1. :-)

  • that's... a.... lot.... of... pedals.....

  • @orioneriksen Unfortunately......ya. hehe Trying to downsize, but it never quite works. :-)

  • @Passenger95 I know what you mean. I hate the tapdancing, but it never works out. And don't get me started on amps. ;)

  • @orioneriksen haha Are you an amps guy too? Basements full? haha That's awesome.

  • @Passenger95 Amps. The bigger the better.

  • @orioneriksen haha Nice!!

  • this is excellent! thanks for sharing this with the world! :-)

  • @dave422x Thank you for the kinds words! Cheers! :-)

  • really nice sounds, can u explain a bit about the midi mate does it have a built in looper? can it store loops if so how many for how long?

  • @differentone7 Thanks! Actually, the Midi Mate's don't do anything on their own. They just allow me to call up settings on the Timeline delays. The Timeline has its own 20 second looper, which is what I'm using here. But it can't store loops. Hope that helps! Cheers!

  • stepped over the fence into pink floyd fields

  • @ihatelumberjacks haha Thanks! :-)

  • awesome sounds from a totally awesome rig..kudos to you man !! =)

  • @SLR900 Thanks for the kind words. :-) Cheers!

  • How do you get those drone sounds? and what kind of chords are they?

  • @Andrewmcg1234 I get the drone sounds by doing volume swells into delay pedals set at long times. And then I'm looping some of them with a digital looping pedal. The chords are mostly just regular chords with 9ths and suspensions mostly, voiced high on the neck. I'm also using a minor scale with a raised 6th degree, so that factors into how a lot of the chords function. :-)

  • super *****

  • @funkhauser3434 Thanks! Have a great day! :-)

  • wowie

  • @FlankinspanK :-) Thanks.

  • halo meets deftones meets trent reznor in the begginingigng

  • @cacaface123 lol You're totally right. Thanks!

  • What do you use for a looper?

  • @andy92811 One of those Damage Control Timeline's. Cheers!

  • I just listened to it again. I don't know if it was improvised or if it was planned, but I can totally see this (with a really busy drum track coming in at some point) working in an action packed Blade Runner-esque film. Nice work. From a spiritual perspective I can definitely feel a communication with the Holy Spirit here... very passionate work.

  • @jsjrocks Thanks for the kind words. And hopefully God is a base inspiration for all 'art' I attempt. hehe And Vangelis is actually one of my favorite composers, so I guess a lot of my stuff inherently ends up sounding like Blade Runner. lol Have an awesome evening!

  • ...wow.

  • @Phobia017 Thanks! :-)

  • great job man! but I think you may need a few more pedals hahah

  • @Rob919Gore lol Workin' on it!! ;-)

But seriously, thanks for the kind words. Have a great day!

  • cool man

  • Oh. And thanks again! ;-)

  • cool stuff man! keep it up.

  • Thanks for the kind words. :-)

  • Love all the swirling harmonics dancing around the frequency spectrum! Splendid indeed!

  • Thanks for the kind words, brother! :-)

  • Sounds great dude. :-) I think you can give me those two timelines and I'll let you keep the ML. ;-)

  • when is David Gilmore gonna come in and solo?

  • haha Sorry. If I accidentally ripped him off, I didn't mean to. But I do enjoy his music, so it's entirely possible. hehe Cheers!

  • @Passenger95 oh no i mean your guitar sounds like pink floyd keyboard intros.

  • Oh, haha. Well, thanks, man! :-)

  • Dude, this reminds me of the Jean Luc Ponty loops but with even more layers of texture. Cool stuff! Thanks for sharing. God bless!

  • Thanks for the kind words. :-) God bless you as well!

  • hey how much did ur entire rig cost. Im planning on setting up my own but as of now i only have a multi fx pedal.

  • Um...a few thousand. I buy almost absolutely everything used, and gear shopping is like a hobby, so I get good deals on most of it. :-) Or try to. hehe

  • I just started following your blog... great stuff! although, I do have to say that my wife hates you for introducing me to the Timeline... haha Great music... Do you ever actually get to apply any of the ambient pads in a live worship setting?

  • haha Thanks, bro! And ya...I actually run a separate rig with recorded ambient pads on about 85% of the songs in any given worship set. And then I usually do some live pads like in this video in at least one of the songs, more if there's a lot of musicians and I just want to create fullness and textures underneath everybody. :-)

  • wow!!! this made my day brighter

  • Thanks for the kind words. :-)

  • What a nice sound. Great work, the octave stuff adds a nice sheen on top of the milky echoes. Love it.

  • Thanks, brother. I'm just starting to have fun with the octaves. hehe Cheers!

  • Pure magic! How long is the pad loop?

    never heard this before..

check out aliensporebomb if your curious about hearing atmospheric guitar textrues

  • Cool, I'll check it out. Thanks for the info! And the pad loop is 20 seconds. :-) Cheers!

  • The rig is even bigger now, right? I never noticed the POG. Nice sounds, as always, Karl.

  • Thanks, bro. And ya, the rig is just a little bigger. I was actually trying to make it smaller, and definitely failed. hehe

  • Ha, isn't that always the story with us pedal/gear-geeks. ;)

  • lol Totally! I love talking with you bro, because I no longer feel alone in the world of gear. hehe

  • Ha, same here! You should see the size of my racks right now. I recently got two analog delays with modulation in rack form (Yamaha E1010 and Ibanez AD202) and the tower is just .. well, pretty huge!

Oh, and I STILL haven't been able to find a TimeLine. A found a dealer in Germany but they haven't responded to several of my e-mails now, for two months. For disappointing since we were basically done with making a deal.

  • Ah, bummer on the Timeline. But way cool on the rack delays!!
