  • it stood the test of an atomic weapon......twice!!

  • If I remember correctly, she was the first 16" gun battleship built, interstingly she lies at peace with her American contempraries, rather than being cut up for scrap like so many others. She can still be seen at rest and touched.

  • 素晴らしい船だったのは確かだ。だが問題はそれを運用する者達にある。

  • I can't stand that horrible background music!! It reminds me of an old Star Blazers cartoon. The video itself was ok.

  • did not want U.S.S.R to get it at the end of the war,,,thanks

  • Destroy this enemy ship by an atomic device testing it's not only honourless: is a kind of exorcism or black magic ritual, those who know understand me. Greetings!

  • @Roothkalki indeed

  • sweet ship! It had a good captain!

  • sweet ship!

  • That's so wasteful! It should have been reused as scrap at least.

  • @ChicaWolverina They should have had it docked at Pearl Harbor as a symbol of a prize of war, and as a symbol of peace with Japan. Some great American ships met equally sad fates. The carrier Enterprise, which took part in most battles of the Pacific and survived against incredible odds was unceremoniously discarded as scrap metal. The battleship Nevada, which made a heroic but failed escape attempt from Pearl Harbor, and served through out the war, was also used for A bomb testing.

  • IJN Nagato RIP...

laid down as a dummy for an atomic bomb test in Bikni Atoll

There is no honour to that death

  • ...Of all places to hear this song.

  • @JavadoBeckett What is this song? Please tell me

  • Biggest battleship built when she was first comminshined. She and Mutsu would have been surpased by the Tosa Class battleships and Amagi Class battlecrusiers. Unfortunetly they would never be completed due to the Washington naval Treaty. Would have been interesting to see the Tosa and Amagi's take part in the war!

  • @Jared1452 yeah, they ended up breaking that treaty anyways

  • もし、東シナの石油を当時から開発していたら、日本は戦勝国になっていたのかな…

    でもアメリカの日本いびりに対して日本は報復戦争したけど、

  • TORA TORA TORA fans know about the full-scale mockup of the Nagato built on the Inland Sea in Japan, bet they don't know about little Nagato. When the movie premiered in San Francisco in 1970 at the Golden Gate Theatre, there was a 14'-15' model of the Nagato and one of the Akagi too in the lobby. Seemed pretty big at the time, hope somebody still has them.

  • All these capital ships were sunk piece meal because high command was too afraid to commit to an all or nothing battle early in the war. To bad command wasn't as brave as staff.

  • Imposing.. Looks so top heavy !!

  • @squadman33 The IJN called it the Pagoda design and most of their cruisers(heavy and light)also had the high Pagoda design, created handling problems in rough sea's.

  • @Billdriver No, not a Japanese term at all. "Pagoda" was coined by US flyers to ID Japanese targets. The "Pagoda" look resulted from adding on compartments to WW1 design ships that had tall tripod masts, with gun spotter platforms on top (See USS Arizona) It was never a "design" it just ended up that way.

........Poor heavy seas stability was due mainly to too heavy armaments and hull problems, not tall bridges, mostly on the smaller destroyer size ships, not the large capital ships.

  • @fusoholic

    Hi,fuso.

I totally agree.I was just saying that the IJN ship's were top heavy and and rough sea's would add to the problem. But like most battleship's,cruiser's etc were fine looking ship's.

Anyway, thank's for getting back to me.

  • As far as i know the Nagato sunk during the nuke tests at Bikini, as part of the "ghost fleet"

  • Did someone knows where Nagato was sink ?

  • Man Japan needs to change Article 9 ASAP and join the U.S as the ally of choice they would make the Brits jeleous.

  • they already did and Japan has one of the biggest & modern army

  • The ship was one of the many gems of the Imperial Japanese Navy. Just Gorgious!!

  • The United States and Japan are both very good allies. I hope we crush north Korea together.

  • God, I love the piano song at the begining, what is that called?

  • It's called you.

From anime Higurashi no naku koro ni

    (When Cicadas Cry) .

  • Thanks ^_^

  • Nagato was one of the few older Battleships that could have taken on a modern battleship in WW2 and hoped to have succeeded.

Its good for us that the Japs didnt use her very much.

  • Yeah.

  • Why Americans had to blow that battle ship just for the nuclear bomb test?

    I still can't understand...

    They're cold blooded creatures

  • Its just a ship. Is it more cold blooded to use it in a test that could expand knowledge in a way that could save lives, or let her sail until shes scrapped or goes down with all hands.

  • How nuclear testing could help saving lives?

  • Learning the effects of nuclear blasts on ships gives them knowledge of what happens to a ship after it gets hit, how easily it can be decontaminated, and how to reduce damage taken by the ship if a nuclear weapon is going to land nearby, among other things.

  • You know what is the best way to save lifes? Stop using fucking nukes you dumb American Don't you got enough ways to kill men already?

  • 1) I'm not American

    2) America hasn't tested a nuclear bomb in almost 20 years.

Yes, testing nuclear bombs can help save lives. How else are you going to come up with methods to protect people (including civilians) from a nuclear blast? Or decontaminate something (like a ship) that has been exposed to one? Use your fucking head. Nagato was JUST A SHIP. If you didn't want to lose it maybe you shouldn't have waged war in the first place.

  • 1) i am Lithuanian, not Japanese.

    2) I didn't say that testing doesn't help like you said.

    3) Nukes is destroying our own planet where our children will be living

    4) personally i find nukes repulsive and double edged sword

What i am trying to say. that nukes should be forbidden in every country including USA, Russia France UK Korea. List goes on

  • Maybe the Americans could have used the battleship Arizona... oh right... Japan sank it already.

  • Thats fucked up man...

  • Im used to read crazy stuff on youtube all the time and it comes a time you get used to it but there are some things you got to ask yourself before posting it to see if it actually makes sense and doesnt at least hurt the feelings of others because not all of us are the same. cold blooded creatures for sinking a ship...

  • let me tell you something and keep in mind the japanese navy has been my obsession for years now, I really wish i could see this battleship afloat today unfortunately the only way in seeing it is by diving Bikini atoll. Let me remind you she wasnt the only battleship to be sunk there moreover if she hadnt been sunk during those tests she wouldve either been scuttled or met her fate at the scrapyard like many other of her companions met their demise

  • (TAKAO, MYOKO TONE, ISE, HYUGA, AMAGI, HARUNA.. it keeps going) at least she still there to be admired even if its at the bottom of the lagoon. Did you know that thanks to the cold blooded creatures the predreaughnot Mikasa was preserved? Read about it. If it hadnt been for the cold blooded creatures Russians wouldve destroyed her for the 1905 humiliation. Next time think before typing and you might not offend others, my two cents.

  • Wrong....Check your history ! Several of the major IJN warships, including Battleships and Aircraft carriers were only disabled at their home ports (Kure, Sasebo) in very shallow water. They were all scrapped by the Japanese in "46-'47 !

At least Nagato is still in one piece and can be visited by skin divers.

  • アメリカ・イギリス有難う。

    長門を忘れないでくれ。

  • Nagato should have been preserved as a museum ship. So much history was written within her armored walls.

  • Nagato, one of the many battleships who suffered a tragic Death, she wasnt sunk in battle, but was sunk by a Stinking Shit known as the nuclear bomb! Yet her name lives on, to those who remember and always will.

  • once you had bombed pearl harbour ,your days were numbered , the battleship was obsolete by 1941 , the carrier took over , you sould know that after pearl harbour and the sinking of the prince of wales and repulse, the japanese navy had rearmed through the 30s , even so ,was no match against the US navy and the royal navy

  • battleships should be fitted with an Airpad like Ise, that way, theres equality,

  • The flight decks on the Ise class BB's were designed for recon. floatplanes.... totally vulnerable to a conventional aircraft. While a few sacrificial "take off only" fighters were onboard, there was only room for a few in the small hanger and they were immediately lost when launched, unless they could make it to land, and even then, still couldn't make back to the ship for a landing.

  • The Royal Navy ??? (LOL) I can't think of one significant action in the Pacific where the RN didn't end up on the bottom. Ya.....after the stellar RN performance in Malaya and Hong Kong, I'm sure the IJN was terrified of the RN. Oh...that's it, I remember now, you must be referring to Tokyo bay in 1945 when the British showed up for the surrender ceremony !

  • lol straight back at you mate , as always , us british kept to agreements and sizes of battleships , and were where you in 39 , your navy wasnt all that , in the early years of the war , it was only after the british attacked the italian fleet by air , and after the japs sank the prince of wales and repulse , that aircraft carriers were the way to go , you didnt surpass our navy until later in the war , due to your massive industrial might , and after pocketing most of our resourses

  • you want to watch who your knocking ,, oh yes america won the war all by themselves according to hollywood ,, with all the cutbacks the navy had and other forces , we did pretty well, concidering , it was us who mainly won the battle of the atlantic , along with the canadians , that admiral king of yours , totally anti british, wasted hundreds if not thousands of american lives , ignoring our advice to send out out merchant shipping in convoys, the whole east coast was lit up like coney island

  • our navy concentrated on the atlantic, the med and artic convoys mainly ,, and were would the american navy be in the vast pacific without the radar we gave you, after the threat of germany was over , we did send a sizable force to the pacific , again that admiral king wanted to keep us out , british carriers by then had seafires , barracudas, corsairs, hellcats and avengers , the days of swordfish were long gone, they provided vital air cover to combat kamikazi attacks

  • who was it mainy who defeated the u boats , us , who was it that broke the german code ,us, who was it that sunk the bismarck , the graff spee, tirpiz, the scharnhorst, and most of the german surface ships,us, who was it that sank and put most of the italian fleet out of the war us , who diabled the french fleet ,us , and used hunter killer destroyer groups to combat u boats us, radar, sonar, hedgehog morters, radar on aircraft to find and destroy uboats

  • Ya Ya Ya...you defeated the Spanish Armada too.... and that means what in the Pacific theater ???????

  • Well thank God the UK put up a resistance somewhere !!! If they had performed in the Atlantic as they did in the Pacific, it would have all been over in '39 ! A propensity for surrender and defeat only surpassed by the French !!!

  • haha hey we did a lot more than you give us credit for , it was our own fault we lost singapore , hardly any planes , no tanks , crappy senior officers , all resourses were kept back for europe ,, oh let me think , a certain mcarther getting absolutely hammered on the philippines , tens of thousands surrendered at bataan, while macarther ran away ,, at least we were in in 39 .were where you lot ,making billions taking money off us

  • lets put it this way , and im a pro american ,, if we had lost in 39 , you would of been totally isolated , russia would of fallen, with germany controlling the atlantic , indian oceans , german japanese linking up , dominating the oil feids in middle east , even with your power , you wouldnt of had the power to do much , but hey the isolationists would of been happy

  • your final point here, as hard as it is for a full blooded Irishman to do, I will have to agree with. The isolatiionists will be the eventual start of a war anywhere. Just as the 1920's naval limitations treaty did.

  • and oh yes, the US had a little thing like the pearl harbor surprise attack, making a little difficult to re-supply the Philippines

  • and those thousands in the Philippines, actually FIGHTING to the end, not surrendering fully intact and viable to the same forces.

  • i am pro american , and always have been, but sometimes i wonder what americans are all about , for me , ww2 was about allies ,our american cousins, and to help each other 100%, without any catches , america supplies obsolete ww1 destroyers , for long term use of overseas islands, and they are still there , bit of a one sided deal, the jealousy and infantile behaviour of some commanders, patton and mark clarks obsession of capturing towns before the british, not team players at all

  • for example sicily , alexander was in overall command i think , the british had the hard fighting along the coast in the east, while patton was to protect the flank, insted of coming in and supporting the british , he shot off across sicily to capture palermo ,leaving us to fight the germans, letting thousands of germans to evacuate to italy,, at cassino the british came over to help the americans ,who were bogged down, correctly so,

  • at anzio , clark could of cut off the germans retreating from cassino , he went for glory and captured an empty rome , letting germans escape , all because of silly one upmanship,, anyway back to phillipines , yes the american led forces fought , only because they were in un populated areas, in singapore ,the soldiers would of fought ,but were told to surrender , or the japanese would of bombed the city, in hindsight we sould of fought on ,

  • ive the greatest respect for the marines who fought through the pacific, even if most islands the outcome would be an american victory, saipan, pelilu, iwo jima ,okinawa and all the other islands the americans fought for, very bloody and costly wthout doubt,,, if the americans had invaded japan, im sure they would of expected us to invade to,, as it was the bomb saw to it we didnt, and america kept us out of japan,, another snub concidering we beat the japs in burma and aussies in new guinea

  • @fusoholic well not anyone can outnumber enmy 200to1 and zerg rush entire war

  • "after pocketing British Resources" !!! you mean all those resources stripped from UK conquests all over the world during the preceding century ?

  • haha ahhhh now were getting to the point , the point was , the americans were jealous of our empire ,,our associations and influence all round the world, and wanted in themselves ,, for being anti imperial , you certainly did your best at grabbing territory yourself , former spanish overseas countries ,phillipines, etc etc, you started the UN or the policy, and wanted all countries world wide to govern themselves, the break up of empires , just because you wanted influence yourselves

  • What a beautiful ship Nagato was. Yamato was also beautiful. The Japanese Navy had some of the most awesome and beautiful Battleships.

  • Comment removed

  • and the fact that they were better trained night figeters and took down the North Dakota a far more newer ship then what the japanese had at the time

  • i hate the fact that they did that to a non offencive battleship and just got rid of it...wouldnt people like to see what the enemy had for technolegy and maybe appreciate what we were up agains by saving some of these ships

  • Good point STATIONO. What pokermaniac fails to acknowledge is that the majority of the IJN surface fleet was a product of pre-WWII design with continuous upgrade and improvement. The WW-II US fleet , especially the Battleships were mostly of new design (even the Pearl Harbor B'ships were upgraded during repair) Thanks to a pacifist US adminisitration, (sound familiar?) the pre-war US fleet was largely WW-1 left-overs. "Those who fail to learn from the past are doomed to repeat it"

  • To bad USN couldn't be talked into saving such a beautiful ship. She,like most Jap bb's never firerd her guns at worthwhile targets.Seagoing hotels, then tombs

  • oh, Nice vid to!

  • where did you get the footage? I would realy like to know.

  • one of the "BIG 7"

  • You remember coaral sea or battle of Solomon.

  • At the start of WWII, Japan had the thrid largest and therefore the third most powerful navy in the world, behind the US and Britian.

also, they had some of the best aviators in the world, they just did not have enough of them

  • it doesn't matter if 3rd largest navy, a defeat is a defeat. us are much more powerful than japanese in all sorts of way except the bravery of japanese soldier to defend there motherland, the only good weapon of the japanese army during ww2 are the kamikaze.

  • fuck you. no honor

  • go eat shit n die prick

  • They were sent to help us not to fuck us up you fairy.

  • goodness, im just loving the piano music for this video, really setting the mood. makes the battleship seem very nostalgic.

does anyone how what this piano tune this is? i would love it just to listen to or any projects.

  • Sad she ended up as she did she was a real beauty.

  • I agree. Nagato was a beautiful ship wasn't she? I wish we would've kept som of Japan's ships as war prizes. Since Nagato was spared the destruction that Ise, Haruna, Amagi, and other ships were, I'd have taken Nagato back.

  • Maybe we should have allowed Japan to keep her Nagato would have been a great flag ship of the JMSDF or maybe a museum ship.
