Final boss wanted to be destroyed as part of his plan, each piece of his body will regenerate to a new planet sized organism, more difficult to destroy as he adapts to whatever destroyed his previous form, like a virus, he is spread all over the universe...

While the sound effects are sort of silly, the final boss of this game is Gofer, the same as the one in Gradius II, and so they used the music from that game to further the fact that you're fighting the same pile of cells.

I beat gradius 3 on hard mode. the key is to use e-laser with 4 normal options. i'm currantly trying to do it without any options or missles.

Let's not forget 3 and 4 as well, 4 isn't really that bad at all, sure the music's cheery,and it seems rehashed but it's a solid game. 3 may be difficult as hell, but it stands as a solid challenge.
