Thank you so much. I am trying to decide which gun to get and this video has been a tremendous help. I'm thinking I want a .12 gauge pump, probably a Browning. I am a 62 year old lady who isn't afraid of much, but I don't want to have anyone screwing around in the middle of the night. Would I probably do well to choose the 3", Winchester Super X?
@parrotland Awesome! Go girl, stand & protect yourself or family! 3” 1 buck shells are nice, little overkill if you live in an apt or congested urbanized area. I keep them loaded “just in case” I go through the first 5 rounds of 2 shot 2 ¾”. A 3” shell can have a little more kick. When you decide on a shotgun, go the range, bring some 3” & some 2 ¾” ammo, shoot & familiarize with it as much as you can. Any browning, rem, mossberg, maverick, more “home defense” based 1 should do.
@parrotland Sorry for the delayed reply...and avoid hunting type since they have longer barrels, hold less rounds & can be a little tougher for a small frame to manage.
@Chewsiffer18 Thank you very much. Glad it helped. I recently installed a retractable kick-lite on it for the wife......she was not fond of the recoil even with a good stance, and since this is my HD gun, I want to be sure she is not shy about sending rounds down range as a result.
Can you put a tactical choke on the mossberg 590 with the 20'' barrel? I'm assuming I'd need to thread the barrel to do this. Confirmation would be nice.
@House6409 I know my Mossy is not threaded. So I would have to thread it in order to do so. I have also heard of people putting chokes on the M590A1 by having them threaded. So I would say yes you could, but only by threading.
Thanks for making this video, this is the first one I've ever watched that demonstrates the differences in rounds. Thinking of getting a high capacity shotgun for the future, this greatly helps to know what rounds might be best for a riot shotgun.
Hey guy appreciate the video!! Been looking for a video that tests shotgun ammos spread patterns...helps me alot when I am in the sporting goods looking at the wall of shotgun ammo and trying to decide. I love to hunt quail and would love to see a video on different ammo companys and spread patterns when it comes to bird shot. I mainly use Federal ammo but have been experimenting with others also. Again thank you for your time sir.
@stars13x you are welcome....I might be able to do something with bird shot. I will see what I can do...right now I have been busy putting together a good size Tactical shooting course.
@garrettzkool63 Thanks. Yeah it does, I was pleased with it, and have went with it as my "primary" defense load. I also have been pretty pleased with Mossbergs over the years
@WrEkGaMiNg lol yeah....it almost felt like Picture Pages while I was doing it. I was thinking to myself "I bet this looks like some dumb crap, some picture pages or something..."
@saltydog78 Its a piece of water resistant drywall. Now normally you would hit dry wall with a missed shot & hit 2x4"s & then some more dry wall on the other side....so to as close as possible simulate penetration I used drywall screwed to two stacked peices of 3/4" birch. Mostly I wanted to see what kind of penetration & what kind of shot patterns it left. Of course hitting someone I would say #2 shot is remaining in the body for the most part, no through & though. 1 buck might, then where?
@eldubya2010 lol yep, I tried to say to put it in a little more understanding terms for the individuals who always want to somehow make a child mass murdering criminal into some kind of victim
@eldubya2010 I am not going to have a sit down talk with "Mr. Invader" to find out what his intentions are & then discuss a honest commitment to not harming me & my family; or creating a defense situation. I do not know you...you enter without authorization & the warning to leave, I would serve life to protect my family...or anyone else from harm or anything otherwise. This is the same thing our Soldiers & our Law Enforcement does everyday
@The8sidedcircle thanks for the heads up....I keep trying, but I am a dumb redneck so I keep buying steel toe boots and have not been able to take a foot off yet....maybe some day soon I hope, thanks for the best wishes :)
@b0xcrash thanks friend. i wasnt being all wise n all, just everytime i saw your foot so close to the barrel i cringed. peace and good will to you sir. happy hunting :o)
@The8sidedcircle sorry hard to tell the wise-a's from the serious on hate-tube anymore, & for sure....you never can be too safe with firearms. It is definitely a bad habit to swing that far back into stance. Thanks for the heads up, I will be more "conscious" of how far back I swing that barrel. I mean never had one go off on accident & always super careful...but there could always be that one time it does & unless you are 100% sure the muzzle is not pointed at your foot, it could take it off ;)
@skateboy159 cause a baseball bat vs. a handgun, when they break in, does not seem to hold much of a threat or ability to stop them. unfortunately there are bad people out there who wish to do harm to you and your family in order to steal or etc. :(
A lot of people dont understand how good birdshot can be for home defense its gonna stop the bad guy and not go through walls and hit other people, i know a lot of people say its not gonna kill but at short ranges i beg to differ especially if your gun has a choke since its all bunched together so tight, and even if it doesnt kill him i honestly dont know anyone and i will probably never meet anyone who will still keep coming at you even if your only shooting birdshot at them
@ktktwix right, I mean #7 might be a little on the weak side but you can see what kind of force they hit with..unless they are braced for it, they are probably going to floor and chewed up bad. Some of the larger birdshot is going to be fatal and knock back/down. Thanks, good comment :)
@TheSlightOfHand Yep, thanks. You would think, how could one ever forget the proper terminology and descriptions for things? but when I am recording, its like my mind goes blank, let alone trying to make sure I keep a good flow, follow the checklist covering everything and make sense... as well as reduced "uhhh's" and "ummms" for mindless fillers. You might find "a bunch" of mistakes in the wording, and I apologize for that, but it looks easier than it is. Thanks for pointing that out ;)
@usmale9112001 Leapers UTG shotgun barrel mount, 5 Slot. From Cheaper than Dirt(item: SCP-626). I had to modify the top part of the clamp, filing down the little humps, & mounted on mag tube. My tactical light is also a Leapers UTG 200 lumens (LIGHT-149). It comes with a weaver/pictanny body & the normal body. After attaching the rail body/battery tube it mounted right up. For a surefire or round tube light you could use the Vltor standard scout mount(ARR-468) & attach that to UTG rail.
Thanks a lot for this video, very informative!

Saying 5 meters (about 15 feet) being around max, give or take another 3 meters for larger homes or acquiring targets through archways :)
