Note that he doesn't actually answer the question but instead draws a bizarre parallel with physics, the mind cannot experience the vacuum state, it's an analogy. If it wasn't yogic flying would work!
After 30 years of teaching sidhis shouldn't everyone have divine powers? Anyone care to demonstrate?
@aarthoor yea thats true but thats not the point, i think that these powers that hindus mysticis about are like the miracouls of jesus. its basicly saying that the greater conscoiusness you are the more divine powers you have, which in turn would bring happiness.. im not that advance but maybe each sidhi they talk about has its own effect on the phyche in the form of intelligence
wonderful - I am from India and i know people with little things developed like being able to see things out of sight or knowing anothers thought But i never seen anyone with the DIVINE POWERS Maharishi had.
He was so powerful - he did a good job of hiding it though...
@luciuswake i would agree but only if dogma scares you it can limit you, if u figured out the true meaning behind the dogmas of the world religions, you obtain enlightenment. its the western form of medittion. an enlightened man tells a story then the little people meditate on the meaning. its only when peple take these as literal trths and not spiritual truths is when they limit us
Exactly... Many times, one can try shutting off their senses and hence putting the brain to work. The brain will find ways and means to sense the outside world. In doing so, if it succeeds to interpret something that otherwise normally cannot be done, it adds to the perceptions of the person, fueling the Extra Sensory Perception capabilities in that person.
Maharishi is still alive on Youtube at least and also he said that the important thing is the knowledge he taught not the individual who revived the knowledge.
Maharishi is definitely also lively in my heart and I grow in experience all the time.
Divine powers--yes, I agree with Maharishi that everyone has divine powers. And now--with the experience of silence through TM and also with intellectual understanding we are able to experience it.
I´ve been around him in the late seventies, the time the siddhi program first came out (flying and stuff). This man didn´t only have these powers, he also taught them. His approach was just a wave of light, well-being and love. I cannot describe it any other way. His magic was real!
I've been to his seminar... There is always an air of positivity around him...but I'm certain that it can be gotten by anyone who reaches his kind of spiritual platform.
I know enlightenment is based upon physiological functioning from my own experience but also because the scientific experiments confirm this.
"A meta-analysis of 31 studies found that during TM practice the respiration rate, heart rate, basal skin conductance, and plasma lactate levels decreased more during the practice than during ordinary rest. A review by Alexander, et al. distinguished transcendental consciousness from waking, dreaming, and sleep on 20 psychophysiological parameters."
"Enlightenment is based upon physiological functioning."
Wow - you've really bought into another idea from the "enlightened guru". Do you KNOW this to be true or is it just another thing MMY has said that you've taken on faith? I strongly suspect it's the latter.
Yes. Enlightenment has its physiological correlation as well. One can have some "glimpses" of enlightenment on the level of the physiology especially during WPA events and even at home when one is well rested. MMY explains that when those "glimpses" are permanently established on the level of the physiology then enlightenment is reached.
Like I said earlier Maharishi Mahesh Yogi definitely had divine powers but if he had of openly displayed them he would have not been able to achieve everything he did because people would have harassed him to just "show off" his powers.
Maharishi was NOT a fraud he (along with his master GuruDev) was the greatest saint that has lived on Earth for many hundreds if not thousands of years!
The problem with pursuing "powers" is that they feed and help to sustain the ego. It's one thing if powers come on their own, but to deliberately chase after them in the name of "enlightenment" is delusion. MMY's "enlightenment" keeps one trapped in ego because you are always chasing after something - that isn't real freedom. Instead, it's a more delightful "dream" to the dream character. Enlightenment isn't about sustaining a dream - it's about waking up from it.
I don't think the goal is to chase after "powers" it is to be more effective in life and Transcendental Meditation provides that tool to develop the "full creative potential" of the individual and expand the small ego to the unbounded cosmic ego so that everything can be achieved without much effort - just by thought.
Enlightenment is based upon physiological functioning. The enlightened person's nervous system is free from both chemical and structural abnormalities.
Divine powers are not the goal. They are in fact the obstacle to your evolution. Whether one acquires them or not is not really important. The most important thing is in "rejecting" them. It is almost like sending you and your three year old child to a candy store! Who between the two of you is more likely to reject the "temptation" that might turn out to be harmful to either of you?
He doesn't actually answer the question that was asked of HIM - does HE have divine powers? Instead, he dances around the answer without actually answering the question. That was MMY's greatest power, to evade actual answers in favor of some theory that would "cover his bases". He was really a fraud who deceived many people, myself included, with a calculated air of authority/spirituality that only deflected people's attention. Many believed what he said because they wanted to believe it.
He does answer the question. And he answers the question the best he can do while still keeping a good character - which one has to have, to have "divine powers". This is highly crucial.
...And some don't believe or reject, out of hand, what he says, because they don't want to accept what he says. Maharshi elevates whatever is asked him to a level that is useful to teach the divine principles which can be of practical use in teaching what is useful. He was a great teacher devoted to the benefit of mankind.
Maharishi answered a personal question in keeping with his brahmacharya and tradition which means that he does not talk about himself. It is unfortunate that you were not able to fathom the depth of what he taught in your own experience because that is what it is all about here. He established a system of effortless experience of the infinite when centuries of ignorance maintained it was difficult. He avoided personal glorification so that the system would stand on its own. It works. All of it.
He answered the question fully. He said "divine powers" are everywhere and therefore everyone has them. Iit would be quite egotistic of him to assume them as exclusively his!
Mother Nature has "divine powers" to be able to make the world go round. In my mind there is no doubt that the divine is present everywhere and humans can tap into this energy if they contact they inner most Self.

You are spot on!
It's amazing to see religions arguing with each other when all their teachings have such a common and divine basis.
If you read the texts of almost any religion, they all acknowledge the divinity of every human being.
The kingdom of Heaven is within you! Enjoy...

The experiments on people reporting Cosmic Consciousness were even more impressive - especially with the EEG Brainwave readings.
Their brains are super coherent and have the signature of transcending even during deep sleep!
I think you need to read up on the research before making these baseless claims.... :)
