Hey.i seriously need help. I am a student filmmaker and iv made a film that's a hour and 15 mins long. I am editing it in FCP 6. I have made separate files for each scene.(I have roughly 25 scenes) The footage is in .avi format shot at 720p resolution. I have edited all the scenes. I need help to compile the whole movie. How do i render a 1hr and 15 mins long film and still retain its quality, size of the final file stays in control and i rendr it in a reasonable amt of time? Please reply. Thanks
Hey I have clips from a small cannon SD 1300 IS can you help me with the steps to render them? I see that you put it in apple pro res 242 but i tried that and i didn't work. Can you please tell me what to put it under?
HI ...thanks for the information...I NEED SOME HELP WHIT THIS,i have one question for you Sr. i used to render all my clips one by one and in some point a have all of them in blue so i can see in real time my effects and all my stuffs perfect, so i go to file and save all but when i closed final cut and open it the next day lots of parts of the clips appears in red again and is really frustrating..THERE is away to save the project whith all my blue renders???..THANKS!!!
hi i have a whole music video that was exported Microsoft AVI(Uncompressed) from Adobe premiere but i want color correction in Final Cut pro. Is it possible to work with 60gig uncompressed AVI files in Final cut?
@ninonica You won't have it unless you have Final Cut Pro which comes with all the compressors you see listed on the video. However this month Final Cut X will be released at only $299.
Thanks for the help with rendering. Very well taught ! You've made rendering and its settings so clear to me, now I realize how I've been doing it all wrong...Very much appreciated !
what about 1920x1080 h.264 it doesn't have an option for that type?? only 1440x1080 so i still have to render...... I have mov files striaght from HDSLR.
so when you press SEQUENCE>RENDER ALL what does that do...does it render it into an actuall file somewhere or just render it to be played back in FINAL cut pro???
@NilsKills Rendering for small things might take 10 second, but for real editors we have to deal with clips that are 5 mins long in full HD and can take 40 mins+ to render some things, if his advice can cut that down even just 25% of the time off them I'm sure loads people be happy with his video tips.
Okay, so I'm just messing around and trying to learn how to use FCP. I took a quick video on photobooth. When I tried to import that, FCP doesn't recognise .mov files. So I got a converter to convert to AVI.
After converting, the clips went into FCP just fine, but they needed rendering. In the info, the clip uses H.264 so I set my sequence compressor to the same thing. No change, I still can't even preview.
Also, when I tried to convert everything, I didn't see the pro-res option? Help!
I really wish this worked. I change the compressor to the same settings and FCP will still not recognize it. I've been working on it for weeks, watching video after video, nothing helps. Do you know of any other video editing software for mac that will work? Please don't say imovie.
for some reason my texts takes more than it should to render and when it is rendered it plays black flashing on and off the screen every few seconds. and my transitions and effects are all messed up, i did everything on this video and it worked, but what can my problem be?
hey apple shakeguru i changed my settings to proress 422 and its good but when i drag a filter or color correction it makes me render it again n it takes forever to render, please help
I was so excited to hear this solution but i matched up my sequence with the clips and it still needs rendering all the time. I have an older version if final cut pro, could this be why? i dont have apple prores 422 either. please help!
Ok, dumb question: How did you get an H.264 clip into final cut? My camera shoots .MP4 files at H.264 and I have to convert them before they will go into FCP. THanx!
is the compressor photo jpeg for stop motion?? can you tell me whats the best way to get the best quality to get out of your stop motion within FCP and the ultimately to youtube? this would help me out a million thanks!! i really appreciate this video it helped me understand a lot!
My clips are all using an H.264 compressor, and I set the sequence to correspond to all of my clips, but it's still wants me to render...am I doing something wrong...?
bottom line is this - if you make web videos get VEGAS. it's so fast and has very good audio implementation too. With vegas u can for example drop a box footage over the main footage and it's always realtime - oh and hello apple? no .WMV or FLASH encoding? jesus wept! In a premuim video product?!!
Try the same thing in SONY VEGAS - VEGAS automaticaly does EVERYTHING - no matter what you do VEGAS always gives realtime preview - final cut is completely out of date and needs a massive ground-up re-write as they did with Logic Pro. We now have serious power computers which we bought from Apple (hello! i have 2 x mac pro) at HUGE expense, and yet FCP is still dated from low-power mac days of years ago. i mean ffs rendering to get realtime preview? in this day and age? it's a joke.
hello, i am completely new to this, i just got final cut pro. my clip is compressed by .mov and i don't see that in these options. Is there another name for .mov? it didn't work with h.264, which is what format i exported it in it's original source. HELP
@punchaloo just do command r to get rid of the red lines, it'll take longer, but eh. and when you want to export, just got to file>export>quicktime conversion. Then just click on size and you can export in HD. Hope this helps
So I just got the new Kodak Playsport camera, and when I try putting it in Final Cut to render, it says theres an error. I've just been putting it into the program Mpeg Streamclip and exporting it, what would be the best format to export it in so that it works in Final Cut Pro best and the quality stays HD
@asianfoskco Hey...honestly, since you've already have to go through the hassle of converting your media in Streamclip, I'd stick with whatever I convert to.
I have to do the same thing on an Older Powerbook that doesn't support a lot of the more current codecs. So what I do is convert in Streamclip or Oxelon for Windows into mp4 or H.264 and finish with the same. It just makes the work flow so much simpler.
Thanks a. Whole lot I got like 3 music videos to complete and I was rendering for a long time I can't wait to get off work in the morning did know you could do this thanks again by the way what's the best export file type for YouTube. I be having problems with my files and they only be like 1.6gb - 1.8gb thanks again.
quick question. lets say i have a lot of rendering to do and its going to take like 30-40 minutes. Is there any type of alert that i can set to go off when rendering is complete? i would like to start render and walk away from my computer and have it make a sound when rendering is complete. anything like this? i doubt it but just thought i would ask.
I dont know why everyone complains so much about rendering?? It takes fuck all time to render if you have good system. And its a hell of a lot more enjoyable and quicker than avids bullshit mixdowns!
I'm using tiny video files 640x480 and I still have to RED render completely for even the slightest change. I'm beginning to hate FCP. Rendering is a major HAMPER on any sort of work without an ultimate computer. It's damn bullshit. Even imovie doesn't make me render like this... Is there any way to disable rendering and just run FCP in real-time??? if imovie can do it why the HELL can't FCP?
Rendering can be done faster on in Final Cut, provided the source file is in an uncompressed video format. This often requires export and conversion of the file. Uncompressed video and audio formats render very fast; otherwise, Final Cut can't render fast for shit.
IS THERE A MAC PROGRAM THATS LIKE VEGAS ON PC. I CANT STAND RENDERING IT SUCKS!!!!!!! THIS IS AWFULL!!! HOW IS ADOBE PREMIER IS IT BETTER, is there another program thats as good and you dont have to render. Rendering makes me not even want to edit video it sucks!!!!?????????!
I did this and set the sequence codec to the same of ALL of the clips in my video H.264 but it said it still needed rendering ? and rendering seems to take forever.. also i dont have that Apple Pro Res 4:2:2 any idea's ? thanks
if you have Final Cut Studio you have 422, if not id look at returning it to where I got it. It may of been a pirated or illegal copy. If there is no 422 either your install got screwed or you did upon purchase. A common sign of pirated software is not having all the codecs and filters.
the only other reason i can think of you dont have 422 is you have FCS 1 with Final Cut Pro 5, where as i am using FCP 6 at least. The first version to have 422.
I do have FCP 5. Thanks for the quick reply. Also do you know why all the file sizes are so large? I recently rendered a .mp4 with H.264 at 1280*720 and it was like 3.25gb but it only took 40 minutes to render where as if i get the file size smaller it says its going to take 10 hours... any suggestions ? The same applies for iMovie :/
why the heck do i have to render every-F'ing-THING in final cut, its so annoying, my friends got vegas and he said he never has to render anything. is he just bullshitting me or whater, im very new to non linear editing by the way
You are truly a blessing to Youtube tutorial seekers! I learned everything I needed to know about FCP in one day thanks to you. I applied everything and Im set to go. You helped resolve a few issues and helped me get familiar with FCP, and showed me a lot I didnt know. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR SHARING WHAT YOU KNOW!
Does AVi Files work I had a PC and most of my files are in AVI and some in WMV format I also want to know how to resize clips that I have and make theme fit my project size.
My compressor was at HDV 1080i60 and I changed it to that on my sequence settings but it didnt auto render any of my files, so I changed all the sequence settings to match my files and still, it had to be rendered, and it messed up my viewer and squished everything. help :(
My clips & sequences are both set to DV/DVCPRO & FCP is making me render every little thing. This is a recent development and it's driving me crazy! I have late 08 imac with 2 gigs of ram so if you can think of anything, please help.
A little message comes out saying :thia clip does not match this sequences or any of your sequence presets for best performance your sequence and external video should be set to the format of the clips you are editing??
Hi all crying about FCP from austin,tx.i imported some footage into FCP it is in HD format .but when i render i lose video quality big time any thoughts?
You raved about "Apple ProRes 422" when setting your compressor. You said you use it for everything (editing side). What is the difference the regular Apple ProRes 422 and Apple ProRes 422 (HQ)? I use HDV 1080i60 mostly and curious if I should use the HQ instead.
apple pro res 422 isn't one of my choices in final cut pro 6... and i also changed my compressor to MPEG-4 which was the same as my MPEG-4 clip and I still had to render...
so is pro res 422 for hd footage only or can i use for it for standard dv pal footage. also exporting for dvd what codec should i use..i always use dv pal 25fps 720 x 520.thanks
Sorry to bother you but, could you tell me what is the least compressed format for NTSC?? I just want to export something in the best quality possible.
Great job!

Agreed man, rendering is the Satan of Final Cut Pro
ZedProductions7 2 years ago 2
I did this and set the sequence codec to the same of ALL of the clips in my video H.264 but it said it still needed rendering ? and rendering seems to take forever.. also i dont have that Apple Pro Res 4:2:2 any idea's ? thanks
RaveVloggers 2 years ago
if you have Final Cut Studio you have 422, if not id look at returning it to where I got it. It may of been a pirated or illegal copy. If there is no 422 either your install got screwed or you did upon purchase. A common sign of pirated software is not having all the codecs and filters.
AppleSoldier 2 years ago
the only other reason i can think of you dont have 422 is you have FCS 1 with Final Cut Pro 5, where as i am using FCP 6 at least. The first version to have 422.
AppleSoldier 2 years ago
I do have FCP 5. Thanks for the quick reply. Also do you know why all the file sizes are so large? I recently rendered a .mp4 with H.264 at 1280*720 and it was like 3.25gb but it only took 40 minutes to render where as if i get the file size smaller it says its going to take 10 hours... any suggestions ? The same applies for iMovie :/

My compressor was at HDV 1080i60 and I changed it to that on my sequence settings but it didnt auto render any of my files, so I changed all the sequence settings to match my files and still, it had to be rendered, and it messed up my viewer and squished everything. help :(

how come when i want to chance the compressor, my list is nowhere near as big as yours. i dont have an apple prores 422 option as a compressor
ZAMTRON 2 years ago
You raved about "Apple ProRes 422" when setting your compressor. You said you use it for everything (editing side). What is the difference the regular Apple ProRes 422 and Apple ProRes 422 (HQ)? I use HDV 1080i60 mostly and curious if I should use the HQ instead.
Randyh9 2 years ago
does that work on final cut Express ???

thanx a lot emeek77?when i send it my movie to motion, then when i send back to FCP i can render it?can u let me know what"s a problem is?
BialaGoraczka 3 years ago
so is pro res 422 for hd footage only or can i use for it for standard dv pal footage. also exporting for dvd what codec should i use..i always use dv pal 25fps 720 x 520.thanks
Michelleheighway 3 years ago
for DVDes it has to be a specific kind of MPEG2, try exporting the project to compressor and encoding it to dvd mpeg2 there
and yes pro res supports both NTSC and PAL standard definition
stealmind 3 years ago
Sorry to bother you but, could you tell me what is the least compressed format for NTSC?? I just want to export something in the best quality possible.
Thanks a lot!!!
