  • youtube weirdest part...

  • I love how in the comment it says he has since passed away...

(Ok that sounded bad i just mean its ironic, its a tragedy...)

It just seems this therapy wasn't very effective if he died. lol

  • @VoreTechz1985 Thanks for posting - the chances are that it kept him alive with relatively painfree treatment for a while longer (6 months) - and after all, everyone dies eventually. He chose not to have the leg amputated because his skin all over was very fragile, and he had very poor nutrition after gastric banding and major weight loss, plus many prescription medications. He was a US Army veteran.

  • @pinknonsense Oh wow i never thought it was so serious. I don't know much about this stuff obviously. =\

  • what r maggots?

  • @thecompeternerd1 fly larvea ( freshly hatched babys)

  • I thougt this was going to be a video about maggots needing psychological help.

  • i used to be an adventurer like you and then i took a maggot to the knee

  • @XxAWSOMExXLAMBOXxRS oh joy these jokes made it to the scarey half of youtube

  • Dx that's gross

  • Thank you for this informative video.

Perhaps you would consider submitting a video like this, or any other biotherapy-related video, to the BTER Foundation's Biotherapy Video Contest (still open, until Dec 31, 2011). I think you would have a good chance of winning one of the top 10 prizes. If interested, more information at the BTER Foundation website. Whether or not you decide to submit something, thank you again for making this video available.

  • @BTERFoundation

Thanks very much for the suggestion but I don't meet the eligibility criteria - I am resident in the UK and was visiting a USA woundcare center when filming this maggot therapy and phage therapy.

  • ew i bet they tickle lol

  • I love Maggot, are Beautiful

  • hahaha its funny because i thought this was a therapy for maggots xD

  • This is the same as my wife's leg it been one and a half years now she was bit by a bug and still very bad what they do will not work so it got to be maggots

  • I wonder if you can feel the maggots O.o

  • maggots saved my life when i had severe burn, the burn consumed 2/3 of my body :D they just eat the dead skin, nothing else. :D

  • ugh! I'm sorry but I can't look at dis I don't why did but it's just so painful to watch O_O

  • :( this music makes me cry!! :,(

  • * is speechless *

  • That is beyond nasty. But it seems that is very effective for rotten meat.....but I must admit that I would have to be anesthetized before they put me the worms....too damn disgusting.

  • Omg I feel so sorry for you :'(

  • urghhh

  • Wow that was nasty

  • @madeoffhate777 umm I don't wanna look at my leg im afraid it's never going to look the same for me:l

  • whos leg started to twich after the this?

  • Oh my gosh this must be painful... !

  • Ew.o_O

  • does it hurt? while they are eating the skin?

  • @FemmedelaCaraibe I don't think it hurts because they are just eating the dead/rotten skin

  • does it hurt?

  • that is so gross

  • yo how much for an eighth of dat ?

  • dont want that to happen to me

  • Ewww I think I would be sick feeling them eating the dead skin I would probes shake them off LOL

  • I hope he is ok too. Strange hw tgs hppns.

  • We have in Arabia a much better cure for Gangrene to prevent amputation!

Turmeric! We use turmeric powder mixed with salt and water and heated on fire until it becomes like a paste, we apply it in the affected area on top of the dead tissue AND around over the good tissue TOO! Leave it overnight, the next day you are cured!!!

It works like magic! Also, turmeric is the most powerful and NATURAL antibiotic!!!

I don't know why doctors in the West don't pay attention to this absolute solution!!

  • @Rewayah They like maggots I guess :)

  • is the dude that had maggots? you..?

  • whats the piano piece playing let me know, or the mp3 thx

  • Maggots are adapted to eat only DEAD tissue. It seems to me that a whole range of diseases like cancer can have biological "bugs" to home into specific kinds of diseases so they could be injected into a diseased sight and begin to munch on their favorite politician or disease. We spend over half of our country's income on designing new ways to kill many people in one blow. If it's just a matter of money, then it's only a matter of time before killing comes a distance 2nd to giving life.

  • there so harmless, they just eat the rotten skin and then just chill there :/

  • @thawdani but gross man!! anyway some people dont have a choice.

  • @thawdani Worms eating the dead skin from your wounds, pfft how's that gross or scary?

  • well i suppose if it works...

  • poor guy, hope he's alright now

  • @cky283 He's dead.

  • owwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

  • i would do dat

  • the music makes me cry

  • we are going back to ancient medical treatment, science proof it work better then anything

  • dude!! i want to see the therapy!!!!! why did u skip the therapy!!??

  • @TurkeyMan96

OK - check out my video called maggot therapy 3.

  • Hell No!

  • @Arkello usually used for major burns to clear away excess dead skin

  • You don't feel them while they're cleaning the wound and if you think losing a leg is better then I pity you, I had this treatment twice and it works amazingly well, I lost the other leg though due to too much damage. The larvae are removed before they pupate, they only stay in for about four days and are then washed out before a new set are put in.

  • @dpenz Most likely a dumb question, but why did you need maggot therapy does it clean infections? And what kind of injury would need this type of therapy?

  • @Arkallo

I don't get it. Why do people ask such things? This is the future. We have Wikipedia now.

  • @dpenz I had maggot therapy due to a post surgical abcess that busted and would not heal. barely any scar there now. otherwise I would have lost a of alot abdominal muscle and tissue. Sometimes we just have to bear with Gross to get better.

  • lol

  • good for necrosis treatment.

  • such a good theme song for the vid

  • haha on the label on the jar of maggots "Medical Maggots" lol

  • @zZzNinjaMunkiizZz What's lol about that? Those maggots have been raised/grown in a sterile lab.

  • I know maggots are good for eating away dead tissue, but what if one of them buggers crawls into a place where it ain't supposed to be? Or will it not because the host it's on is still alive? I mean timelapsed dead pigs are eaten inside out (or something like that)

  • @IneedaYTaccount Maggots only eat dead flesh. They wouldn't be able to survive in a living host for too long.

  • I get bee sting therapy and everybody says I'm weird and they feel bad 4 the bees but this is just......EWWWWW but if it helps, keep doing it! I know my bee sting therapy has helped me so much!

  • @benseriouslyben Maggots they eat the dead tissue in a wound and stimulate healing for new tissue My mom had a necrotic wound from a spider.

  • fascinating maggots ,very small

  • do the magots hert wen theyre on?

  • Ever seen that show called "Monsters Inside Me"? Yeah, same concept. Definitely would not be my choice of therapy.

  • @delgado4652 Not the same creature. These are maggots, in "Monsters Inside Me"

    Bot Fly larve.

  • Yeeah . That's not Infected . Just a flesh wound . . .

  • why do i watch these sorts of vids

  • the maggots will only eat the "dead part" of your body...

  • Maggots used to be used quite a lot for things like this . Wound cleaning, removing abscesses , such as inside the ear and so on. I guess you could call it natural medicine.

  • the docs wearing black..

  • jeez' people, if it wasnt for teh maggots the poor person's tissue would be infected and the leg would be amputated. Whats the bargain loosing a leg for just a few maggots in the leg to eat what will cause the amputation?

  • thats nasty..

  • BAHAHAHA

  • y r they doin this 2 her :"(

  • how do you get them inside your body??do they eat you??

  • My dad, a surgeon, used this on at least 2 occasions. The maggots also secrete something that aids in healing. Another approach is using honey on open wounds and covering with telfa gauss.

  • how do they take all the maggots off after?

  • @babigurl745

The nurse just wipes them off and picks off stray ones with a pair of tweezers.

  • @pinknonsense What if she doesnt get them all???

  • What a funny question. The nurses always spend ages washing the wound and taking a great deal of care.

But IF they didn't then I can only suppose that they would grow bigger and bigger until they pupate and eventually fly away, just like fly babies do naturally!!!

  • @pinknonsense well i had cellulitis in my leg and the wound was large and had litlle holes in a few areas , and i wondered what i i had this and a maggot went in the hole and got stuck there and the hole closed up??well i guess it would die in me eventuallly grooss

  • @babigurl745 they get 5 or 4 times bigger then they where...

  • Disgusting and interesting ...

  • i wouldn't mind having this done to me as long as i couldn't see the maggots

  • that person is putting maggots onto his/her leg??

  • @mandolin8903 Yup

  • @mandolin8903 : Yup.

Those little maggots will eat the dead tissue and the leg will get alot healthier, alot quicker. : )

I know its gross, but it works wonders.

  • This is what i call symboysis lol, well done :)

  • soldier said: -maggots

  • I JUST HOPE I NEVER GET INJURED ENOUGH TO GET BUGS ON ME! sry bout caps

  • The nature has the best surgeons. These small animals have saved many lives in situations like the wars. The soldiers that had these animals in their wounds didn't develop gangrene and they didn't die from the infection, because the worms had eaten the infected meat

  • I hated maggots a hell of alot, but after seeing this video made me actually appreciate the little guys. They're pretty interesting. I underestimated them. I mean they're still really gross and all, but I now have more of a respect for them. However, I still would wish to be cremated and scattered on the breeze. ;) I'm glad to hear the maggot therapy helped your friend. n.n

  • does it hurt???

  • it must feel weird!!!

  • @hoplite46 I had this sone on my knee 2 years ago, you can definatly feel them moving, it is like a tickle sensation, very strange feeling

  • @tonightwefly Well that's...nice to know o.O.

  • They might not be the cutest litte things, but they are bloody useful :)

  • Maggots May Seem Like They Can Hurt You (And They Possibly Can!!) BUT They Can EAT Infections! As A Matter Of Fact, @BremboDaLegend Has A Unique Story That Says That! God Bless!

  • maggots may be disgusting to some, but they're really super effective little cleaners.. and the lab grown ones are about the cleanest organisms on Earth.

  • yummy

  • they are so small how do they get them out??

  • ewie!

  • That looks gross and painful.

  • not only do the maggots just eat the dead cells but they also have antimicrobial agents that can kill certain types of bacteria and heal infections

  • now that's a very ugly foot

  • good video but the music was music was chronic.

  • show us the end result too. to reassure us this makes sense.

as long as they don't go up into your body and eat your brains.

  • so emotional.....not the video but the music

  • sooo romantic

  • Thats hot

  • I have a major fear of maggots.. So they'd have to knock me out cold while it happened :|

  • I run track and I approve of this method! I LOVE MY LEGS!!

  • .....Hello MAGGOTS!! ;)

  • i honestly didnt know they still used maggots.

  • @johnnyblazze911 better than ever before! i'm in love with the burn treatment with them. no more having dead flesh scraped away, now it's gently lipped away by gentle toothless insect babies.

  • Indeed they do, in fact some hospitals still "breed" maggots and leeches for certain treatments.

  • sure why not, no drugs so little side effectrs, and they are very thurough because they are HUNGRY.

  • id do it... cuz id rather have a leg

  • to save my leg i would im a martial artist and i dont know what i would do with out my legs

  • Punch.

It would still be pretty hard without your legs though. I'm sorry, I just had to be a smartass for a second.

  • i dont see any way that dude kept his leg. it was kinda too far gone

  • Ugh why do I have to watch these gross videos right before dinner? >_>

  • personally, i couldnt do it

  • You might make the call if the alternative was amputation.

  • what if it meant bye bye leg? still?

  • they did that treatment since robin hood was born and it has always worked! its just not the most pleasant of treatments!XO

  • Aside from eating the dead tissue the maggots also secrete antibiotics into the wound to help them outcompete bacteria and they stimulate regeneration of new tissue.

  • lol

    GUYS

    maggots only eat dead tissue

good for certain injurys and ect

  • eww

  • what is that for a disease`???

  • @zunack nahh its so it could eat all the dead infected tissue. maggots only eat dead tissue on flesh it dont harm you or anything.

  • Yeah but then you need to use the slippery elm poultices to feed the new tissue growth or you will have to graft skin (eeww) and have a coup mark somewhere else, your ass! So spread the word about slippery elm, and a paste made of comfry leaf, raw honey and wheat germ oil you want to see rapid healthy tissue growth try that little miracle mash.

  • @geoleo2009 oh really man? oh jeez... thanks... that cheers me a little bit. lol

  • @geoleo2009 It's still a horribly disgusting thought. I don't think I could leave maggots in a wound for 48 hrs w/o freakin out & gettin em out myself. I guess if my life (or limb) depended on em....hmmm, what a toss up! Get the bugs out or save my foot?

  • @venuslock35

Just don't worry about it - the maggots are not going to eat living flesh and anyway they would just fly away after they pupated. The nurses and doctors applying this are very experienced and calm. They would look after you. Sorry if you are horribly disgusted. Many people have benefited from this type of therapy.

  • @pinknonsense What I hate about how you put the pupating theory is, that means there are WAY MORE in your leg or whatever. So when they pupate and fly away, you just have MORE maggots in you. That's not something you can be calm about cause guess what? What happens when those maggots get HUNGRY inside you? They eat you.

  • @Leftunloved

They don't eat you - they just clear away the dead tissue on the surface.

  • Some diseases, like diabetes, affect circulation which makes it difficult for wounds to heal. Thus they grow larger and larger, cause gangrene, etc. Maggots, larvae, etc, eat the 'dead' tissue, helping the wound heal more quickly. It's been proven for hundreds of years, just not too appetizing.

  • @zunack yeah... this are the Medical Maggots.... they use this for some skin diseases.... maggots only eat dead tissues that can more infect the patient (i think...)...... the doctor should remove the maggots in right time before they become flies....

  • i think they put them to eat dead sking and dead blood.? i think

  • i know this sounds dumb, but how to you get ulcers and sdtuff like that?

  • stress, bad diet, loads a things

  • When you get accident, like cut yourself, wounds that don't heal.

People who have Diabetes have trouble healing wounds, so things like this happen, you get ulcers.

Ulcers are wounds that don't heal.

And if they go untreated, they can spread and most likely you'd get Amputated. But this Maggot therapy helps cause the maggots only eat the dead skin cells and the living ones heals the wounds.

  • how long do they get left in 4

  • How does maggots get inside you?

  • hey doesn't maggots only eat ur dead cells?

  • yes

  • yea i think so

  • yeah, they eat any dirt, very useful.

  • yep, they only eat the dead flesh, they use it in medisin because "fresh flesh" heals better

  • wat happend?

  • Army Vet.. Hooah. May god be with him

  • what does maggots do I only know it's name

  • well believe it or not, maggots are often used in healing and/or drawing out infections, dead cells and assist in the regeneration of tissue, in other words simply helping to clean the wound of any bacteria or infection that may be present. The maggots like other living things eat rotting or dead tissue.

  • The man in this video passed away... I feel bad for the guy.

  • Omg whats happened with your leg. :o

  • ohh gott i don´t can watch that 2 times i bad about this

  • eww feel bad for ur leg

  • buddy may god bless ur feet and take good care of it....iam realy sorry of what is going on with u but i feel ur feers and pain.

  • whats with all the god(s) comments??? this is medicine, medicine is science and scientific beliefs oppose god(s).

  • That is not true. If God was first whom do you think created Science. Science is nothing but we humans researching God's creation.

  • lol

  • TRUE DAT

  • I think that you are SO right!!!

  • WAI TI DON'T GET WHAT YOUR SAYING ARE YOU SAYING GOD RIGHT OR NOT RIGHT. ooops sorry i didn't mean it in caps . i just didn't wan tto re type it

  • No they don't, God created science, God gave us the ability to make those medicines.

Also, What's so wrong with saying "God Bless" Anyway? I dont't see a thing wrong with that.

  • yeah sure they are quite disgusting to some people but think over the years how much they have saved people's health and lives!

  • God thank you for maggots

  • XD

    nice

  • buddy of mine said that when he was asleep he had some unwanted maggots in his cuts and he has a lot of CUTS he later fond out that a big cut on his leg (gash!!!!)was infected and the infection was so great that it would have to be amputated he was lucky though because his infection was eaten by the maggots the funny thing was he wanted to keep one but every maggot in the ct died arrrrr :'(

  • @49thassasin Why was your buddy cut up so bad>?

  • Buddy of mine got "hit and run" by a car, we spent a week looking for him and when we found him we were sure he was dead. He had dried blood and maggots were all ove the side of his head and ground. We called an ambulence immedently as a sign of respect but that didn't matter when I cheaked his pulse, he was alive, in a coma but alive, docters told us that the maggots ate away the infection in his head that would cause poisons to build up and they saved him, he woke up a month later.
