Neat! Some of the 'puzzles' would have been nice had they made it into the actual game - I'm sure playtesting ended up weeding out some of the more inventive puzzles, but ah well.
Not complaining at all, just commenting. I'm a big fan of Comix Zone.
@janmansde3dede Effectively, this comes from being designed on an Amiga, but what I mean is that is not properly played since everything is scripted. This is just reproduced by the Amiga as an automated sequence, used in order to get the project pitched.
@janmansde3dede I know it's not a Mega Drive demo. The "MD/Gen" tag references the target platform of the game. And this concept demo wasn't either something that could be "played", not even on the Amiga, which only reproduced the automathed sequence. Same goes to the Sonic Spinball concept demo.
wow you must be a fucking idiot and didnt scroll down one line and read my other comment. here in America, my friend THE shit is slang, meaning something is amazing. plus my moms dead anyway and i love comix zone so just fuck off.
i don't know if im quite as passionate about it ..lol But i'd like to see a good sequel to comic zone aswell. grabbed a sgen emu and was lookin through some roms and "comic zone" caught my eye, i was like shit i remember that game, it had the catchy tunes.. and i remember it was fun to play. so iz like shit i'll check it out for old times sake. But yeah what a good concept, i could see an awsome remake being done with today's standards... just this guys 2 cents.
Its too bad that Comix Zone never saw a sequel or a remake. The beta's combat looks more fluid compared to the final product. That song in the background brings back memories, but I cannot remember the name of it.
This was a proof of concept demo. It's just a video that was used to pitch the idea of the game to management, before work on the game began, it was never coded for or playable version. This "version" Comix Zone would have been drawn and animated on an artists' workstation.
Wow, Joe Pencil? He sure looked scrawny compared to Sketch! Well, they already had a good idea for the game, as the overall look was sort of the same as the final.
I really love Sketch Turner.. I mean, as an artist, I draw fanart of him regardless, but after seeing Mr. Pencil here, I appreciate Sketch so much more. Har har.
Wonder if Roadkill was decently planned out? Except "Roadkill" was a tribute name to the maker of the background music or something like that. I don't know... Wikipedia... taught me how..
Wow, great find. You can clearly see a lot of concepts they would develop into the final game. Joe Pencil (what a horrible name) looks like such a pansy compared to Sketch Turner (which is really the same character, only better developed).
Seems like this version of the game would be trial and error in that you have to use your items in the right place or get stuck. I guess the final version had its insane difficulty level to compensate for this. =P
I love the creative minds that made this game.

this version sucks...

Pretty surprising how many elements made it into the final product.

I'm so happy it didn't come out like this.
Finalflash50 10 months ago
Even this early in development, you lose health for punching breakable objects.

Sketch Turner sounds so much more radical than Joe Pencil. What a masterpiece of a game.
Astos88 11 months ago
@Astos88 Yeah. Joe Pencil is a corny name and sounds like something out of Action 52.

Joe Pencil's figure is what his last name implies lol

the character design looks lame as hell but i like the level layout and the music.
but comix zone is the best.

What exactly IS Sega Technical Institute?
Is it like a game college or something?
pullahoko 1 year ago
@pullahoko It was a development studio within Sega of America's offices, which was active between 1991 and 1997.

Wel sorry for that, but i believe this is played on a amiga I think on AmigaVision
(The Power point of then).

You should remove MD/Gen because this is NOT A MEGADRIVE DEMO
Peter morawiec choice of PC was the Commodore Amiga
Every demo's,prototype of him is made and played on a Amiga.

This looks like it was hand-animated as a proof of concept, right?

@DrButler That's right. It was designed by Peter Morawiec on an Amiga.

Why isn't this being made right now for the PS3?
Imagine what they could do if someone were to use penciled graphics like that.
Maybe add online 4 player co-op.
Couple of different endings.
Jumping from storyboard to storyboard wouldn't be half bad.
darkmaster03 2 years ago
Because it was made for the Sega Genesis in 1995.

You mean Comix Zone
AgentsTVSeries 2 years ago
I seriously think that a sequel for Comix Zone can fit the Wii!!!
THINK ABOUT IT
Viewtiful Joe Graphics, and Story Line of Comix Zone Sketch Turner after he rescued that one chick with the Rat Roadkill
after you beat Comix Zone the Good ending says
"AND THEY LIVED HAPPILY EVER AFTER...UNTIL"
until what? did the developers of Comix Zone intend on a sequel?
NOW IS THE TIME 4 ONE!!!
Truegamer2000 3 years ago 4
Look up Comix Zone 3d, they had storyboards for a sequel but Sega was much more interested in a Sonic Game (Sonic X - Treme)
AgentsTVSeries 2 years ago
this looks almost as good as the finished comix zone to me. can i download it somewhere?
shadeviking 3 years ago
No. It's not actually a full game, just a tech demo to show what the game would roughly be like.

it did show some unique puzzles, but the final version lacked that. It's still delivered a fun experience for me.
