Okay, yeah Conan was way smarter in the books but come on! this is WAY more realistic. He grew up in a hick town way in the middle of nowhere with NO formal education. of course he can't read or write. Personally this is the one episode to stick with me like 15 years later because it showed Conan was a flawed human being. Oh, and remember he learned to read basic English in like what? 2-3 days? A week max. That's actually really good. so he's still as smart as the books say.

The series isn't very consistent about whether or not Conan can read. He was able to a few episodes ago when he cast the spell to make his grandfather flesh again.

none of the episodes were in any order it was designed to be like the tales of yore where the stories were never told in the order they happened and even in that episode he wasn't so great at reading

And in that episode he didn't read the scroll, he was thought the words by Greywolf. Why he held the scroll while simply repeating after the wizard is just another one of those weird mistakes.

i believe that was the point i was making, i couldn't read or write, tie my own shoe laces or know the alphabet until i was 9, i felt think and stupid but i wasn't, didnt stop the names though did it.
