My goodness, I love your playing style. I own one of these as well, only mine has a burst finish, and is strung upside down cuz I'm lefthanded. I do love this guitar, I hope you do too.
hey, I have a 94 MIJ telecaster thinline reissue.. does anyone know how much these are going for now cause im a broke sudent looking for some cash haha
I have this guitar and i don't really like it at all. the neck seems too slippery, and when i play the twelth fret it always is a half step down from the octave! it pisses me off and i brought it back soon and got a strat instead. it may just be my guitar but other than that good playing man!!
Your sound is wonderfull,a volumen of amp what it is? sorry for my spaninglish, the guitar es clean????? not pedals? ....thanks by the demo you sound is really nice, from Chile.
Thank you my english is not good too..Yes I plugged the guitar straight to the amp (Mexican Fender Champion 110 25W transistor). No pedal at all as i have not own any pedal then yet. I actually prefer playing wtihout pedals unless i need the effect
i have this guitar for sell it is made in mexico i have had it for about 8 months in great conditon if anyone is intersted contact me on youtube i will make a video of it and put it up i also have a fender stratacaster for sell as well
nah not since the 70's...there are just reissues made in mexico...there were reissues from japan that were made in the 90's that many people consider to be superior to the mexican ones, but i dont think they make those anymore. They still pop up on ebay now and then though
yes and no the mexi caster us assembled in Mexico but all American parts mine was 600 new and its soooooooooooooooooooo fucking warm on the tone man and the action is smooth.i use it in my school jazz band and for thrash metal in my band with my friends
Hi..yup CIJ is 'crafted in japan', mainly for domestic market. i like the tone of flat wound too but at this moment i want my guitar to be more versatile, in future i might get a jazzbox with flat wound when i'm really into jazz...anyways i appreciate yr comment very much!
dude, when you play clean, especially jazz, i recommend flat wound strings, because as we heard, normal round wounds give this kinda disturbing scratchy sound.... (maybe it's wanted?)
I played one of these earlier today through a fender hot rod deluxe and it was great for zeppelin. Neck pickups especially. The bridge pickup could have used a little more oomph but then it wouldn'y have gotten the little bit of plonkiness on cleans.
Normally I'd expect those single string jazz lines to come from a hollowbody. But sounds like you've got that one doing about what you want it to. Good style.
Hey mate, I just wanted to say Im sorry for my rude past comments and I also wanted to thank you, because after watching your videos (and getting a little bit confused and dissapointed) I kept looking for another guitar and it came out to be exactly what i was looking for.
Thanks for the comment mate, what guitar are you playing currently? If you have a video of you playing your guitar please do share with me, I'd be very happy to see how good is your technique and how good does your guitar sound..
hey man, I'm going to buy a telecaster thinline '72 MIM. Do you know the right combinations of the pots so the guitar sounds like the vintage? (the neck pickup open and the bridge not too thin)
The Fender Telecaster book says the vintage was using 1 Meg pots for vol&tone. But also some people comment that the treble is too harsh and prefer 500k instead..
Mmmmhhh, I don't know if this could help. I have an homemade thinline, and I replaced the pickups with seymour duncan hotrail in bridge position and vintage jaguar for the neck one. It sounds amazing, now. Definitely not a tele sound
Finally found out where's the reply error, so jz a short note here to repeat wht i hv replied U..so tht U might get more feedback here..
-swapping the 250kΩ vol&tone pot to 500kΩ can open up the Widerange humbucker sound, many ppl would try tht first b4 changing PU since it's not costly.
-hope U can find more info frm experts on tdpri(dot)com
-the 4 screws are jz for adjusting the PU height more accurately bcoz the polepieces are not inline.
Bought mine, a Japanese proto, around 1988. Stopped looking at other guitars ever since. One month ago, I got it revised and 2 people working in the guitar shop offered me to buy it. I refused. :)
i had a '62 av/r.i. american strat...and i found the 7.25" radius to be a problem for me (i like low action and string bending), i traded it in for an american deluxe s-s-s and couldn't be happier covers alot of ground including some humbucker sounds too!...Fender's are great!...nice tele!
I played one of these recently and LOVED it. I ended up buying the Highway One honey blonde with maple neck instead. You can see it played on my videos. I really wanted the 72 thinline but the tiny frets made me shy away. I'm just so used to jumbos that I couldn't buy it. It was certainly a sweet guitar though and I may end up buying one yet! I think that if I do buy it and get used to the frets that it would definitely be my favorite guitar. I couldn't put it down at the music store.
Hi, to me the fret size is still not that bad to adapt with, but the 7.25" radius fingerboard of this model is tricky enuf for me to set the action..especially after i've changed the string set to 011-049. Watched yr videos, i think ur getting the right guitar if you enjoy the classic fender twang =)
Ur right..i read that frm most of the reviews online..actually i'm playing a japanese 72 tele thinline, do you know how can i check what's the vol & pot used in this model?
Hey amigo, I have this guitar too and didn't realize it was good for jazz too but what do ya know, this is by far the best guitar I have ever owned! It is a classic/beautiful/timeless guitar!
The worst ending note in my entire life as jazz musician, buy him a book and a Pat Metheny's cd, that guitar isn't made for jazz but it's wonderful sounding, I can sound better with a Benedetto but I couldn't bend cause of my 0.13 flat strings, I'll put this Telecaster 72 in my list of favourites, maybe I could buy it in the next year. Good night!
Im not sure, never get to try a 69 thinline becoz it's not available here..i think the fat sound is coming from the pickup not the semi hollow body..i wished to have that tight resonance from a full bodied jazz guitar but still a lil far frm that kinda tone..
Nice tele, and nice playing also. I own a Fender Telecaster Custom with 2 Wide Range-humbuckers. Didn't know that the hollowbody design would make such a difference in sound...
Not yet, this is the first time i own & play a telecaster, but i think i hv seen this forum while surveying '72 online..Thanks for the suggestions Danarmb!
I never played an original 72. I do know the CIJ are more highly regarded than the MIM. Worth more in the used market too. Did someone change the pickups on your guitar?
Yea that's what i read from the reviews too, and because of that i got a CIJ since i wouldnt get to try anyone of them before buying..ordered through internet..oh what i mean is compared to the original 70s Wide Range pickup, which is using CuNiFe magnet designed by ex-Gibson Seth Lover..
hi there, great playing!

can someone recommend me a humbucker, who sounds well. Dimarzio or Seymour Duncan?
the other problem i see, it has 4 screw for each humbucker, but a normally humbucker has 2???
it would be very nice if anyone can help me.
best regards
