How is it, as it's crafted in Japan? I'm considering one of these too..

  • i just got one of these.

  • You have just reached fender customer support, please hold.

  • My goodness, I love your playing style. I own one of these as well, only mine has a burst finish, and is strung upside down cuz I'm lefthanded. I do love this guitar, I hope you do too.

  • great tone and skills as well. Thinlines are one of the most versatile guitars. :-)

  • Hi! do they still sell these guitars new? I want a japanese more that a mexico build, but Im not sure where to get one. thanks

  • may i ask you what is better? i need warm and bright sound.. tele road worn or 72 tele thinline?

  • may i ask you what is better? i need warm and bright sound.. tele road worn or 72 tele thinline?

  • very nice.

  • "Dédé" Fortin used to play one of those...

  • Had this same guitar for the longest time... Great Guitar... Kickin myself for sellin it.

  • @Abewyly1 never sell your guitars

  • Do these have the thick glossy nitro on the necks?

  • yup they do.

  • hey, I have a 94 MIJ telecaster thinline reissue.. does anyone know how much these are going for now cause im a broke sudent looking for some cash haha

  • I have this guitar and i don't really like it at all. the neck seems too slippery, and when i play the twelth fret it always is a half step down from the octave! it pisses me off and i brought it back soon and got a strat instead. it may just be my guitar but other than that good playing man!!

  • sounds like your intonation was out.

I just bought one of these a few months ago, it may soon become my main.

against my Gibson Les Paul DC and PRS single cut.

  • @guitarsnpucks

You realise that is just an intonation problem and could have been fixed in 10 minutes?...

  • i have this guitar and it is seriously joy to play on.

  • I got the pleasure of playing one of these at Guitar Center the other day, it's a really nice all-around guitar.

  • is that a celtic top in the background!!??? yasss

  • wow ur sharp..yup tht's my 04 celtic home shirt bought in Aberdeen :)

  • could you give an information please?

can this guitar support seymour duncan pickups?

    i would buy it..xD

    p.s. nice sound man ;)

  • Got a "Lawsuit Era" made in '77 by the Fuji Gen folks that made this. Want it?

  • Your sound is wonderfull,a volumen of amp what it is? sorry for my spaninglish, the guitar es clean????? not pedals? ....thanks by the demo you sound is really nice, from Chile.

  • Thank you my english is not good too..Yes I plugged the guitar straight to the amp (Mexican Fender Champion 110 25W transistor). No pedal at all as i have not own any pedal then yet. I actually prefer playing wtihout pedals unless i need the effect

  • Elevator music!!! just kidding sounds really nice and warm!!

  • are these guitars american?? pls reply

  • nah not since the 70's...there are just reissues made in mexico...there were reissues from japan that were made in the 90's that many people consider to be superior to the mexican ones, but i dont think they make those anymore. They still pop up on ebay now and then though

  • yes and no the mexi caster us assembled in Mexico but all American parts mine was 600 new and its soooooooooooooooooooo fucking warm on the tone man and the action is smooth.i use it in my school jazz band and for thrash metal in my band with my friends

  • Beautiful Tone!

  • Found this second hand in a shop for $400. Gonna buy as soon as I can :D

    It's just...beautiful.

  • uh, before i orget

does "CIJ" stand for "Crafted in Japan" ?

  • Hi..yup CIJ is 'crafted in japan', mainly for domestic market. i like the tone of flat wound too but at this moment i want my guitar to be more versatile, in future i might get a jazzbox with flat wound when i'm really into jazz...anyways i appreciate yr comment very much!

  • dude, when you play clean, especially jazz, i recommend flat wound strings, because as we heard, normal round wounds give this kinda disturbing scratchy sound.... (maybe it's wanted?)

    just a hint.... good playing

  • please can someone answers this:

    natural finish or sunburst?

(i might be getting one) thanks in advance

  • i like wood grain patterns...so i chose naturally then :)

  • Def. sunburst.

  • vintage suburst got one at guitarcenter im gonna get for my b day in two weeks wooooo!!!!!

  • I would choose natural finish for this specific model.

  • the '72 thinline reissue is an amazing guitar; easily my electric guitar of choice.i just love the way it plays and sounds. great video

  • Beautiful,smooth tone,good!

  • nice guitar but i think i like strats more

  • muy bueno ponja,alto jazz

  • This guitar is great for the blues too! See Tab Benoit.

  • this guitar straight into a mesa lonestar 2x12 combo is pure tonal bliss ;)

  • My mother won't buy me it. :(

  • Just found my next guitar!!!!!!!

  • ..what the hell?

  • I would have to agree with you there. It's like sex for the eyes. Although, some people don't like the way a Tele looks.

  • How would this be guitar be for classic rock stuff like zeppelin? i'd like to get it, but is it only good for jazzy stuff?

  • I played one of these earlier today through a fender hot rod deluxe and it was great for zeppelin. Neck pickups especially. The bridge pickup could have used a little more oomph but then it wouldn'y have gotten the little bit of plonkiness on cleans.

  • mmmmmm... i played this same guitar at GC the other day. it's seriously like, my vision of the perfect guitar.

  • i have that guitar and its absolutely UNREAL to play....

    love it

  • wooo, a CIJ!

how does this feel compared to a MIM 72 thinline?

I have a CIJ 72 custom. love it! The neck feels great!

  • dude that was awesome one thign at the begin it sounded like you were using octave chords were you cause i've never seen them like that

  • hi..thank you..yeah ur right it's octave playing:)

  • beautiful guitar... I love that telecaster model, the deluxe 72 too...

  • very nice, wut kind of humbuckers r on that?

  • Thanks, they are stock mij fender widerange humbuckers.

  • good elevator music

  • That is beatiful. Nice guitar I am getting one of those once I get the cash. Keep playing, man. Oh! & I have a question, was that improvised?

  • good luck...yes all improvised

  • Very nice impro, and the sound of guitar - full jazzy :)

  • Normally I'd expect those single string jazz lines to come from a hollowbody. But sounds like you've got that one doing about what you want it to. Good style.

  • it is a semi hollow body you didn't see the cut in the top. it's hollow i own one

  • dude this is really good, i listen to this when i play counter strike acually

u should put it on itunes

  • whats the name of that peice???

  • Hi it's just a jam, not a song..

  • I WANT ONE!!!

    except in a 3-coloured sunburst.

they are so expensive in asutralia which are $1500. theyre only 700 in the US.

do u know where to get a cheap one?

  • Have you checked the japanese model?

  • can u give me the website u got it?

    i really want one

ive only tried the mexican 69 version

  • You can try this website, katana guitars (dot) com, hope that helps..

  • That is a beautiful guitar...played beautifully!great stuff

  • Hey mate, I just wanted to say Im sorry for my rude past comments and I also wanted to thank you, because after watching your videos (and getting a little bit confused and dissapointed) I kept looking for another guitar and it came out to be exactly what i was looking for.

    "rock" on!...

  • No problem man..hope you get what ur looking for and remember to share with us..

  • As i said; im looking for a new guitar, but right now i have a squier hot rails

. and yeah, maybe i can upload a video later for u to watch :)

the only problem is that the squier is getting fixed, so i might use my acoustic.

  • ..that sounds like underwater......

and ur .."technique" is freaking boring too.

i was thinking about buying a thinline'72, and i was pretty sure about it...until i heard this.

    now im really confused.

    thanks dude..

  • Thanks for the comment mate, what guitar are you playing currently? If you have a video of you playing your guitar please do share with me, I'd be very happy to see how good is your technique and how good does your guitar sound..

  • Ya I think nothing compares to a traditional jazzbox to do jazz, but if you like something special and versatile you can try this guitar..

  • Good stuff dude.

    i really like this.

  • Good job. I like the playing =)

  • do you know where to get a lefty one

  • Hi, there's a guy on youtube who plays the lefty of this model, his nickname is poprip, you can check with him he is a nice guy..

  • great music. amazing

  • hey man, I'm going to buy a telecaster thinline '72 MIM. Do you know the right combinations of the pots so the guitar sounds like the vintage? (the neck pickup open and the bridge not too thin)

  • The Fender Telecaster book says the vintage was using 1 Meg pots for vol&tone. But also some people comment that the treble is too harsh and prefer 500k instead..

  • T

    THATS NICE PLAYIN DUDE

  • hello together,

    first, great jazz playing!

second: i've got a question. i have the same one, but in sunburst. i've got also the wide range humbuckers, but i'm not happy with the tone.

can someone recommend me a humbucker, who sounds well. Dimarzio or Seymour Duncan?

the other problem i see, it has 4 screw for each humbucker, but a normally humbucker has 2???

it would be very nice if anyone can help me.

    best regards

    from switzerland

    raphael

  • Mmmmhhh, I don't know if this could help. I have an homemade thinline, and I replaced the pickups with seymour duncan hotrail in bridge position and vintage jaguar for the neck one. It sounds amazing, now. Definitely not a tele sound

  • Hi

Finally found out where's the reply error, so jz a short note here to repeat wht i hv replied U..so tht U might get more feedback here..

-swapping the 250kΩ vol&tone pot to 500kΩ can open up the Widerange humbucker sound, many ppl would try tht first b4 changing PU since it's not costly.

-hope U can find more info frm experts on tdpri(dot)com

-the 4 screws are jz for adjusting the PU height more accurately bcoz the polepieces are not inline.

    cheers=)

  • wow...i love elevator music...its just amazing =/

  • what you play????

  • Bought mine, a Japanese proto, around 1988. Stopped looking at other guitars ever since. One month ago, I got it revised and 2 people working in the guitar shop offered me to buy it. I refused. :)

  • i had a '62 av/r.i. american strat...and i found the 7.25" radius to be a problem for me (i like low action and string bending), i traded it in for an american deluxe s-s-s and couldn't be happier covers alot of ground including some humbucker sounds too!...Fender's are great!...nice tele!

  • I played one of these recently and LOVED it. I ended up buying the Highway One honey blonde with maple neck instead. You can see it played on my videos. I really wanted the 72 thinline but the tiny frets made me shy away. I'm just so used to jumbos that I couldn't buy it. It was certainly a sweet guitar though and I may end up buying one yet! I think that if I do buy it and get used to the frets that it would definitely be my favorite guitar. I couldn't put it down at the music store.

  • Hi, to me the fret size is still not that bad to adapt with, but the 7.25" radius fingerboard of this model is tricky enuf for me to set the action..especially after i've changed the string set to 011-049. Watched yr videos, i think ur getting the right guitar if you enjoy the classic fender twang =)

  • me have one too, been loving it ever since

  • played it through a vintage crate yesterday

    amazimg cleans

    meteoker distortion

  • Did you swap the pots out for 500k ones?

That really helps with the sound on those reissue pickups

  • Ur right..i read that frm most of the reviews online..actually i'm playing a japanese 72 tele thinline, do you know how can i check what's the vol & pot used in this model?

  • very nice very nice

  • Hey amigo, I have this guitar too and didn't realize it was good for jazz too but what do ya know, this is by far the best guitar I have ever owned! It is a classic/beautiful/timeless guitar!

  • did you write that yourself?

    its beautiful

    nice work, nice guitar.

  • Hi..thanks..not really..it's just a jam..no arrangement..just trying to play some scales and improvise over that backing track..thanks vry much =)

  • The worst ending note in my entire life as jazz musician, buy him a book and a Pat Metheny's cd, that guitar isn't made for jazz but it's wonderful sounding, I can sound better with a Benedetto but I couldn't bend cause of my 0.13 flat strings, I'll put this Telecaster 72 in my list of favourites, maybe I could buy it in the next year. Good night!

  • i love that sweet jazz music

  • pretty nice guitar, good player...! I got the same, it sounds so good...!

  • i don't suppose u can get that sound on the 69 reissue eh?

  • Im not sure, never get to try a 69 thinline becoz it's not available here..i think the fat sound is coming from the pickup not the semi hollow body..i wished to have that tight resonance from a full bodied jazz guitar but still a lil far frm that kinda tone..

  • Nice tele, and nice playing also. I own a Fender Telecaster Custom with 2 Wide Range-humbuckers. Didn't know that the hollowbody design would make such a difference in sound...

  • Nice playing & tone. I used to own a Tele Thinline and I've regretted selling it ever since.

  • Thanks Kev3542..i like yr strat and yr blues too..very smooth and emotional playing..i need to practise more..

  • Not yet, this is the first time i own & play a telecaster, but i think i hv seen this forum while surveying '72 online..Thanks for the suggestions Danarmb!

  • Some guys like to change the tone pots to a different value. They say it opens up the tone of the pickups.

Do you belong to the telecaster forum? TDPRI

Great people there. They will answer all your questions about this guitar.

  • I never played an original 72. I do know the CIJ are more highly regarded than the MIM. Worth more in the used market too. Did someone change the pickups on your guitar?

  • Yea that's what i read from the reviews too, and because of that i got a CIJ since i wouldnt get to try anyone of them before buying..ordered through internet..oh what i mean is compared to the original 70s Wide Range pickup, which is using CuNiFe magnet designed by ex-Gibson Seth Lover..

  • I got one of those. Good luck. Sounds good.
