Great job guys! I'm pretty sure many people came here to see an exact copy of Radiohead's work and may be disappointed. But you made it like your own. Just wish the quality of video and sound was better.
nice arrangement, great interpretation, guitar bass and piano are brilliant, but i'm sorry, the vocals were atrocious. killed one of my favourite songs. normally i'm all for song covers being original and unventive, but this guy's voice went so badly with it... and please don't shoot me down for having an opinion :)
At first I thought - what the fuck is this? They've totally destroyed it! But then I saw the passion, and the determination that the singer was putting into this performance. While it pehaps doesn't give off quite as intense a message as Thom Yorke's haunting warnings, this is still a very good cover.
Great interpretation of this song! A cover shouldnt be a exactly copy from the original, this one sounds quite good and still keeps the character! Thumbs up!
Wow, I never would've thought Idioteque could sound like this... but by utilising an acoustic guitar and a completely different vocal style to Thom's, Obadiah Parker has blown my preconceptions out of the water.
Idioteque is my second favourite song of all time. I truly appreciate what Obadiah Parker are able to do with most songs they cover, and this one is no exception. A good cover changes around the sound of the song without making it something it's not, and this is exactly what they've done with Idioteque.
I think a lot of people fail to see what this is. You take a hugely production based band like radio head and cover it with acoustic instruments? That's fucking impressive, and just as powerful in itself.
Btw i realize that the bass and the piano are electric but i meant acoustic based. Obviously they wont be out there with a grand piano and a stand up....
COME ON MAN!!! I was looking for the energy and tempo of IDIOTEQUE!! u effed it up for me and everyone else... not saying you are not talented but we wanted the real one.........
@AaronCooper123 thats exactly what I did after wasting my time with your intro, thanks!!! BTW there are many covers on here that ROCK it. I thought yours was one... I was mistaken sorry
@jbudd Its not my cover btw :P i understand that its not the same as the original and the original is a lot better, but it just seemed silly to say you wanted the real one when your watching a cover, which of course is going to have an original twist on it otherwise you might as well listen to the original.
@AaronCooper123 I think people often get confused between the terms cover and tribute. I'm fairly certain there isn't an official definition for cover. I've met just as many people who expect a cover band to sound just as much like the original as possible as I have the opposite................ Probably just a matter of how it was defined first for anyone in particular. This guy has a great voice... too bad they aren't really out making music as popular as Radiohead:/
Just the fact that they found a way to replicate a sample-heavy song using traditional instruments is impressive to me. The fact that the lead singer has the best facial hair this side of Zack Galifanakis helps too.
I'm a HUGE Radiohead fan. They're definitely one of my favourite bands (especially with regards to live performances) and I think this cover is does the original justice. I always appreciate when a band takes a risk and puts a totally new spin on an old song. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. In this case, I think it really does. I still prefer the original, but this one IS cool! Come on
@danthemimicoman I don't want to burden youtube with the amount of times I hit like to your comment, so I'll reply instead. That is the EXACT sentiment that I feel.
Also a Radiohead fan. I think I would've liked this song had I not known the original. Knowing how the song is supposed to be keeps me from enjoying this version. This is not because it's different, but because it is, in my opinion, an inferior vehicle of expression. The words and the music don't fit together, as well, and Matt's voice is not as suited to the song.
@dynamitewalls - I'm one of the biggest Radiohead fans ever, followed them since the Bends and seen them live countless times, and I LOVE this cover. The purpose of a cover should be to bring something different to a song, and Obadiah Parker has done that masterfully. Just like he did with Hey Ya....
@odinp OMFG are you insinuating that radiohead's idioteque is a shit song???? SERIOUSLY??? obviously you are tone deaf and have no fucking clue what music, rythm, and talent are all about....
For all the die-hard radiohead fans; remember the words of thom Yorke: Different bands, different styles, different sounds. I like both versions, because they are both different. This one sounds more like its a proggressing story, rather than remembering an event, like the original. Just my opinion of course, but this is a nice, classy take on the original.
@joe3710 It's like they took the same song, lost all of its perspective, added a bunch of cheese, and a couple of yeahs. What makes it so bad is he has no idea what he's singing about.
@ThomYorkesHead They did take the same song. Its a cover, man. The lyrics are all over the place, I'll give you that. However, I think you're looking for way too much here. It is a creative cover. It is sung very well. The musicians are all capable. They add a twist to it that makes it different and unique, and not just a no surprises copy of the original. If what you look for in a cover is to mimic the original exactly, just listen to the original itself dude.
@ThomYorkesHead By the way, in case you're wondering, Radiohead is my favorite band of all time. I'm in no way saying this cover is better than, worse than, or equal to the original. It is simply different and, I feel, very well done.
I've seen Radiohead performing live about ten times, got all (and a whole lot more) their cd s, 15 (un)official dvd s and heard literally hundreds of terrible Radiohead-covers and I really have to say this is one of the best I ever heard.
Best covers aren't exact copies, but extinguishable interpretations of the original... and Obadiah Parker succeeds in doing such in a utterly delightful way
@ThelemicMagick They don't understand the song they are covering. The piano solo at the beginning is just absurd. Then he tries to sound all urgent and sad and introspective. "Here I'm allowed everything all of the time" is not a moment of introspection. I don't want an exact copy, I want something with a little perspective.
It's not meant to be sarcastic, but now you really made me curious which Radiohead-covers you DO like (if possible, not the really good, but kinda obvious ones examples like O'Riley, Easy Star All Stars, etc)
I don't mean to sound rude, but are there any RADIOHEAD fans who actually like this cover? I mean I really hated this. But that's just like, my opinion man.

Lmao @ people who think this is better than the original. These guys took a fantastic, distinctive song and turned it into generic acoustic pop. WOW, GREAT JOB.
so much better than the original. obadiah is such a great musician and he just brings a different type of intensity to the song. this is really impressive
@natesrry I now feel sorry for you because you're obviously a dullard who's only recourse to a comment he doesn't like is to make homophobic slurs. I guess I should not have expected any more from someone who actually thinks this is a good cover. ....wait.... "fag" right?

sorry to everyone thinks that this is amazing, i have to disagree. He got rid of any deepness that the original had. It sounds too..pop for me now.

Lmao @ people who think this is better than the original. These guys took a fantastic, distinctive song and turned it into generic acoustic pop. WOW, GREAT JOB.

@natesrry I now feel sorry for you because you're obviously a dullard who's only recourse to a comment he doesn't like is to make homophobic slurs. I guess I should not have expected any more from someone who actually thinks this is a good cover. ....wait.... "fag" right?
