@lilmanwithops Well, you'll need a prop shaft & gear box for the motor, you can find them on tower or ebay or lot's of hobby sites. The rudder is made of solid wood and is just attached with a zinc cabinet hinge. (zinc prevents rusting). I epoxied a control horn to the rudder for the pushrod to attach to. Silicone caulking is used in the bolt holes to seal them completely.
I'm trying to make an rc boat and i have a few of question because yours is amazing. My first is how do you make the outside bc i'm trying to make one our of popsicle sticks and when i put it on the water the sticks just came apart and the glue i used was a glue gun and my other ? is how do u get an engine? Did you literaly buy an engine or did you buy an rc boat from a store and then just take it out of that boat. Thx my boat fell aprt just days ago and i felt like i wanted to cry..i was so mad
@lilmanwithops I built the boat with wood glue, but then it must be covered with epoxy to make it watertight and keep it together. The epoxy is 100% waterproof. This boat only has it on the inside, which was a mistake cause the wood joints crack every year & have to be filled. Check my other boat made of popsicle sticks-that one has epoxy on the outside too. No problems. Motor & parts for this one were from a Traxxas villain, but other one, I bought parts from Tower Hobbies & ebay.
Yeah those little digital video cams do that when they face the sun, looks like an eclipse. Thanks for the compliment. I have a video of a better popsicle boat I've made now too.
very nice sandy bottom there too - i got a stray RF static now - when my prop touches the water the rudder goes wild- tried a completely different transmitter setup still does it
totally sweet tug- i built a 19" tug and massaged a mamod marine steam into it with lights and rudder- i had it at a mahogany full scale show in the harbor, and i felt a little tap on my shoulder, and a 90 year old man said "is there a steam engine in there"? i said yes, he said "you can be proud of that" --all wooden boats are cool, but he sure likes steamers!
Thanks! It is fun to talk to people about your boats when they see them in public. I've just finished my second popsicle boat. It's sort of like the fishing boat from "The Perfect Storm" movie. It's much better than this one. A steam engine would be really cool though.
I'm hoping to go out soon. We've been having nothing but rain here for the past week. If you subscribe to my videos it will notify by email when I post the new video. Hopefully in the next few weeks.
Thanks. I used epoxy to fix the prop shaft in the hull, then the motor is set higher than the waterline so it doesn't come up through the stuffing box. The hinge that holds the rudder is bolted through the hull with silicone sealant under the bolts.
Thanks! I just used many many coats of gloss white spray paint. I used a little bondo to even out certain areas on the hull before I painted it. I also put a layer or two of clear laquer over it if I remember correctly. Next one I'm going to fiberglass over cause every spring I have to shoot a little super glue into some tiny cracks in the joints that open from sitting.
what do you mean it isnt the prettiest boat on the water that is amazing for hommemade i am making one at the moment but it isnt gpoing to look near as good as that
lol i was gonna make a video on ride on my boat ... i couldn't put a camera on the boat cuzz it was too heavy so i put a cell phone and it actually fell in the water ...>.> but i like yours .. goodjob !! 5/5
It's capable of almost 1000 feet, but when you get too far it gets very hard to tell what direction you're going. You might think it's coming back when it's actually going even farther.
Great video . . . a creative boat . . . it looks like loads of fun. I'm pleased to see that it is just as noisy as mine when you do onboard (which is why I replace the sound!).
um.. mr spear913 can u give me tips in my social studies class wher studieng a egyption boat that made no whake when it sailed and i was wandering because i have to make one if u can give me some tips......
Thanks a lot. It was a slap together job, but it has never given me a single problem and it drives very nice. The new popsicle boat I've started will be done a little more carefully though.
That is soo kool...I am working on refitting an RTR Smasher destroyer i bought off towerhobbies, will be some time though before its ready for the camera. kool site you can check out called rcgroups
Thanks. I'll look forward to seeing it when you finish it. I'm beginning construction of another popsicle boat. I want to base it sort of on the Andrea Gail in the movie "The Perfect Storm."

It's actually a nice looking boat! Im planning on making a big freighter. But the curvature is somewhat a challange. I want it to be at least decent.
