  • Who cares if J. Cole used some of the lyrics. I love both songs. Just deal.

  • @dreamerwisherwonder my cover above "early 90s"=way better :)

  • @citusmasher omg how much I agree with this even though I was born in 95. I feel like I was born in the wrong generation. I prefer this type of music most of the time.

  • great dancer

  • is it bad that i dont even know who J Cole is? lol sorry dude.. i will google now

  • This was the #1 song the day I was born....I think I hit the jackpot

  • Why is Arsenio Hall censured?

  • She sang this song! OMG

  • My name is HAWK OLIVERA I AM THE LAST OF THE ROYAL BLOOD LINE OF THE CALFORINAT

  • gay cole

  • I would like to see more rappers with creativity, all rappers use samples, but why cant they do something new.

  • vevo sucks big donkey dick; fuck vevo.

  • David Fincher did a great job :D

  • I'd pound her all day

  • @dtowngreg can you pound my throat with your cock?

  • This is great, but everyone here needs to watch Andrew Garcia's version of Straight Up...just can't get over it! Keep hitting the replay button...

  • Im 16 and ive been listening to this version since i was a baby and i LOVE it. Im even thinking about singing it for my school's talent show next month

  • thumbs up if ur watching this after "work out" by j. cole:)

  • Why is Asenio Hall blurred in this video?

  • lol this was the #1 song on my birthday -facebook

  • One weird thing about the video... all the parts where Arsenio Hall appears have been 'smudged'. I know they were an item back then...but really, was that necessary?

  • Directed by Mr. David Fincher.

  • Instead of talking smack about the guy, I think we should be THANKING J. Cole for introducing some of today's generation of music fans to the greatness of Paula Abdul!

  • I LOVE PAULA ABDUL SONGS!!! YEAH!! :D

  • Paula Abdul is Great

This Song Is Her Best Song Ever

  • The real problem here guys , is Paula Abdul being mentioned in the same sentence with that J. whatever guy....Paula Abdul is a legend , extremely talented choreographer and dancer, with skills comparable to those of the king of pop himself MJ...J.C is ..well just one more guy that thinks he can rap...end of story there

  • @IEnjoyTalent you suck

  • @IEnjoyTalent J cole is not a guy "who thinks he can rap", he can!! he's better than all the other rappers. he raps about REAL SHIT, not money bitches, drugs and hoes like those other stupid hip hop artists. and he doesnt rap about how fuckin "great" he is (like lil wayne). if u just listen to him u would realize that

  • @IEnjoyTalent Yes u tell them, they need to be told, paula is a legend xoxo

  • You're all idiots...sampling is so damn common in music, especially in hip hop...whether its in lyrics or beats. Plus why do any of you care about J Cole's song "Work Out"? I can name at least 50 of his songs that are better...don't like it then don't listen to it. Stick to the music you like instead of dissing the music you don't care about.

  • I just realized j cole used the same lyrics for his song 0_0 I love paula doe :)

  • Why theres a blur in some scenes???????

  • The beat is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO sega

  • Comment removed

  • @MisterInvisible88 you're an idiot. It's not a remix in any way

  • he didnt copy the whole song, but he took the the hook and in any song, even more so in rap song that the most important part.

  • @sodaandcookies1 that is true, except for the fact that he didn't take the hook and use it as a hook. He took the hook from this song and simply used it as an outro for his song. He wrote a completely different hook for "Work Out" and - like you said yourself - the hook is the most important part. Which he wrote himself :)

  • @sodaandcookies1 well that's like me writing a 10 page research paper and for the conclusion copying someone's work. Does that make it still okay and original?

  • SHIT SO FUCKING GOOD MAN

  • Anyone saying J. Cole stole this from Paula is a complete idiot and doesn't deserve to be discussing music at all. He used 2 lines from this as a tribute to the song because he felt it related to his song. Paula Abdul and her publishing gave him permission to use the lines. Everything else in his song was created entirely by him. So to say he stole anything is absolutely absurd.

  • @TommyZing31 An intelligent and researched response. I like it.

  • @drmuelr thank you my friend! First top comment I've ever had, couldn't have been for a greater cause

  • @TommyZing31 still taking the besst parrrt of his sng frm another one

  • @TommyZing31 anybody that says j. cole didn't steal this is a sensitive little girl that worships miss Paula Abdul a little bit too much, go join the military or grow a pair...

    -OS2 (sw) Lorenzo

  • @TommyZing31 hey pipe down bitch

  • @buddhabomb528 lmao you're an idiot!

  • At The End Of The Day Paula Is Getting Pay Big Time

  • J. Cole's "work out" totally copied Paula Abdul!!!!

  • @luv4ever555 actually he didnt. He used 2 lines from this as a tribute to the song because he felt it related to his song. Paula Abdul and her publishing gave him permission to use the lines. Everything else in his song was created entirely by him. so he didnt really copy her song :D

  • #1 Song when i was born! 23 Feb 89

  • @Ugura23 Me too :D

  • j cole work out

  • Why is Arsenio Hall blurred out ???

  • @MzVilliany your bugging .... Thanks to j Cole I like this original classic ... N for the record j Cole FUCKING killed it with work it out .

  • I got this CD, Paula is amazin.I like her moves.

  • J Cole could never do the tap number and the 4 turns in the intro and will not win 4 VMA's for the same song like the original "Straight Up" by PAULA ABDUL. Nor will he ever get a a Star on the Hollywood Walk of fame or 2 emmy's for choreography. Oh Snap! Paula Rules!

  • Their both good songs

  • You are a bunch of bitches, if you like this song better then the song that J. Cole used this chorus for, then just listen this song... what's the problem, other people like the other one better, you like this one..... no problem right? stop bitching hipsters.

  • Fuck J. Cole

  • @maxito561 all he did was use the chorus calm yourself

  • I love this song!:) This one is so much better I think!:)

  • Like if your watching in 2012

  • J.Cole - Workout

  • WTF? Hey EMI why did you blur out Arsenio Hall from the video. I go look for a bootleg version of this on You Tube.

  • @blachubear I've been trying to figure out that too. I want to know also.

  • god. anyone else think that this is WAAAAAAY better than the new version? It shouldn't have been touched by another artist.

  • @Cullenzz678 I 100% agree. It also pisses me off that they changed the line from "do you really wanna love me forever" to "Straight up, I tell ya

I just really wanna cut when we together".

  • @Cullenzz678 Yep, I just had to show this to my daughter she didn't know she was listening to a remake. Hell I used to be a DJ in my younger days and have this on a 45!

  • @Cullenzz678 definitely!

  • @Cullenzz678 He didn't make a new version. He used a part of the chorus.

  • @Cullenzz678 maybe if you heard j coles song you wouldn't be saying that. Work Out is not a "version" of this song like you say it is. It was part of his sample to make an original song and used that line since it fit in what was saying. It was more a tribute than "stealing" like most idiots comment here. People need to understand the business of sampling songs before even opening their mouths.

  • @Cullenzz678 J. Cole put an amazing twist on this song. I prefer his version to this one actually.

  • @QuikScopes93 J.Cole's version is some bullshit and didn't even chart in the Top 10. Paula's original version went to #1 on Billboard.

  • @Neno8403 Relax bro, just puttin' out my opinion...

  • @Cullenzz678 there is no new version... what you heard was a tribute to this song

  • @Cullenzz678 Go to the new version ok ?

  • @Cullenzz678

Especially someone as shit as J. Cole

  • @Cullenzz678 OOOHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! YYYYEEEHHYY

  • @ juli pearson

  • This song is still awesome!!! I love me some Paula!

  • O Boże ile ja się tego naszukałam ;D świetny kawałek ♥

  • I feel like J.Cole sampled this because of Andrew Garcia's version, but I could be wrong. Just seems like his version seems more like Andrew's version.

  • at 2:22 i had to stop to change my underwear :D

  • paula is # 1

  • Paula Abdul has always played possum with her detractors. She happens to be a top flight performer, this video Straight Up was creative to the max and great music.Making it as a Lakers Cheerleader showed her determination.

  • que bosta

  • cole world

  • Amazing @ the beginning. I think Paula was so underrated. Her & Fatima are my fave choreographers. Tina Landon is ok too.

  • Cannot believe someone slaughtered this song. -.- I grew up listening to this, and wanting to dance like her. It's one of my favorite songs of all time. ;_;

  • A musica da minha data de nascimento.

  • Paula Abdul Rockz! J Cole Suckz!

  • @Sammi538 yup! hell yeah he sucks dicks big time!

  • This music is like something from Sonic...

  • She looks like Latoyah Jackson in this video!

  • @TheMagadoodle6 she taught janet jackson how to dance as a matter of fact

  • Paula Abdul made this song in 1989. Google it. It's a fact. J.Cole just got the main part of this song and made his own version. I like Paula's better.

  • Why is Arsenio Hall blurred out?

  • THUMBS UP if J. Cole brought you here!

  • ugh stupid ass people. ...j cole is lame as fuck. most rappers now a days take music from back then and just change it SLIGHTLY....not really creative with the music anymore

  • YES! LATE 80'S BABIES HIGHFIVE *highfive*

  • this was #1 when i was born too! heyoooo feb 16 1989! that explains why i turn it up every time i hear it and scream my head off. :p

  • Never get tired of this song.

  • Like it or not, she's still a diva....at least she was known for having a real talent. And that's why you still see her today and renewing contracts : ]

  • They just don't make music videos like they used too :(

  • Paula Abdul came wayyyyy before a J Cole therefore he stole this from her NOT the other way around >.<

  • @ellokittyyarm just the chorus jeez

  • Searched up the J Cole version and once again I realized how much I dislike mainstream music nowadays

  • guys, shut the fuck up, he obviously got her permission. idiots!

  • Crazy Coreogprahy!! But i like it! :D:D

  • Fuck J-Cole and his "Work Out" song. It's got nothing on this classic!

  • I've heard this chorus dozensss of times, but I had no idea that it was this song by Paula Abdul. So glad! She rocksss

  • @SynthL0RD 19/02/89, cool people

  • @guiannihilator Hell yeah! I mean, we only lived through the BEAST DECADE EVAR (90's)

  • @SynthL0RD *Best, lol

  • Lol Paula released this when J Cole was only 4 years old. Must've left an impression

  • Correct. It's not stealing bc music is copyrighted. You steal someone's song and they sue you. That's how it works. Permission is obtained first. :) And btw Paula's versioin is better but I still like the new version.

  • who the fuck is j cole?

  • @kungfupanda2k10 hes a gut who grabbed a part of his song and made a spng out of it its called workout

  • @kungfupanda2k10 You're on the internet. Try Google maybe?

  • @kungfupanda2k10 I dont know, why the question? she doesnt say jcole anywhere in this song, neither does it say that in the description

  • I hate how all kind of people want to talk bad about her because regardless what they say she is talented and one of the best! I remember being five and wanting to be her and Janet because they were real singers and dancers back then. Music was at its best back in these days and I wish some artist would come up with their own beats and music instead of always using others. I like the originals better all the time because nothing and no one can compare to the original artist ;)

  • Uhm... people realize J. Cole was three years old when this song came out right? And for the other people saying he "stole" it from Paula, he got permission from her and she was happy to allow him to use it.

  • this is old school and is always better no matter what other say

  • She has a really big pimple

  • I never heard of J Cole until I came on here. Straight up.

  • its called sampling ppl

  • epic tap dance !! what ever happened to our country ?

  • stole??? -_____- .... you mean sample...

  • It's called sampling not stealing..... Trust Paula got paid for it.
