  • What was that picure at 0:13 At henry with gordons face all about?

  • Hornby modles size i think they are made big for the younger poeple who are going to be plaaying with them

  • ...And this is Toby...

    Funniest review so far!

I'm not sure how I see Hornby's efforts...I applaud the idea of making the engines resemble the body of the train on which they were based, as this makes the model more marketable to older modellers too...however their distinct lack of effort with some models make me think that it was just a cost saving measure to use the same moulds as another engine...

  • maybe you should add a bit on how controllable they are. do they jump from 0-100 in a second or do they reach it gradually making it better at shunting without smashing into the buffers...

  • Hears some train and theres toby

  • 1:11 Who's that?

  • 0:12 What happed to Henry's Face?!?

  • can you do a comparisen on henry if you have both hornby and bachman

  • After seeing this review I know which one I prefer.

The Bachmann Toby is a better model because its the right size and shape.

Where as the Hornby Toby is too big because they've used the Body shell from the

    Clockwork Toby. :) :P

  • 4:06. Look at Gordon.

  • LEAVE TOBY ALONE

    lol gr8 review as always

  • gorden has a green tender lol

  • This is easily one of my favorite episodes in this series.

If you think about it, in both the TV series and the original Awdry books, Toby was noted as being one of the weakest & slowest engines on Sodor. Therefore, it could be argued that in addition to better replicating the character's appearance, the Bachmann Toby also better replicates the prototypical performance.

Forgive me for asking, but are you considering doing a Bachmann vs Hornby Emily review at any point in the foreseeable future?

  • Where did you get that OO gauge Rocket? I would love to have that in my collection...

  • why henry have gordon face? plz reply

  • bachmann toby is really nice

  • why gordon have henry tender?

  • @thecrazykidz852 I believe its a reference to an episode in Season 10...

  • hornby should have made the hornby thomas shorter and have his wheels as close together as the hornby toby!!!

  • does hornby toby fit onto normal hornby track?

  • @00:12 I see what you did there.

  • Quick question. Why does the Bachmann Gordon have Bachmann Henry's tender?

  • bachmann Toby certainly is a beautiful model. shame it's rather slow though. I only got it today but I am already pleased I got it. I also got Mavis so I've been doing shunting work on my trainset.

  • Hornby Toby disliked this video 3 times because he is too tall, can't win tug of war with Bachmann Toby, and is overpriced. Bachmann Toby disliked this video 2 times because he isn't strong, and he was called a garden shed.

  • the bachmann Toby

  • Comment removed

  • do gordon next

  • simon could you please make a stand alone review of oliver after you finish henry

  • Can you tell me where you buyed the Hornby -Rocket- I cant find it - 1:11? :) Please answer:)

  • Why'd you give the Bachmann Henry the Bachmann Gordon face?

  • Never liked the look of Hornby's version right from the outset(rather like Edward-just wrong),but despite Bachmann's being slow,it's still a winner with me(I have two in fact).TBH,Toby's not really a sprinter & supposed to be old/slow anyway.

As for coaches,I intend to try & find him a Henrietta to replace his Hornby 4-wheelers.

  • I'm willing to break my hornby train here and say bachmann is suppirior

  • 4:13

  • we want gordon we want gordon!

  • why is gordons face on henrys body ? :O

  • Simon, what's the name of the background music used in the Time Trial test?

  • why does henry have gordon's face?

  • @simierski do Bachmann and Hornby both move on the same track?

  • wait is hornby british and bachman american?

  • @alexandthomas yes, thats right

  • how did the bachmann take 14.3 seconds? did it de-rail or something

  • "But wait, who's this?! It's Sir Topham Hatt, with a copy of the rulebook! It turns out that Garden Sheds are'nt eligible for the Tug of War! Team Thomas wins!" LOL

  • 0:51 - 0:56

    ...With realistic chuffing sound!

  • 0:12 lol

  • oww are gonna do gordon

  • Bachmann did way better with toby. I would have thought hornby for james if it wasnt so overpriced

  • I think that, even though its over priced Hornby wins for me :) mainly because im in the UK and cant get bachmann

  • Was toby losing a T.T.O.W for a joke or was there a problem?

  • Sir Ralph: "I cannot wait for this next review, Spencer is a fine example of our class, he will win the speed run no dobut about it" ^_^

  • Gorden

  • I have a hornby toby and a ben :O you got a rocket

  • Bill and Ben. A double feature would be awesome!

  • Which Character you will compare next time

  • I got Hornby Edward, He looks really detailed and such but the only problem is that the boggys at the front always keep going in the wrong direction and get suck...

  • That's quite nice! the hornby model is tooo oversized! i was shocked. The bachmann model goes slow but is quite sturdy- my model having been opened by me many times and it's face being removed a million times. and it still works!

    - splendidly too.

the last part was quite amusing!

and don't forget the vote for emily!

  • Bill & Ben! And will you be doing Hornby vs Lionel or Bandai Tecs competitions??

  • Spencer next please

  • @leokimvideo - I dont think he has them

  • @leokimvideo - he's coming, have no fear!

Youtube sucks, what has happened to all the email updates for comments?!

  • @simierski I still get email updates. Maybe you oshould sheck out your channel settings?

  • EDWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD! I've been waiting!

  • I guess, so far, Hornby - 1, Bachmann - 3.

  • @726berkshire - actually, it's 2-2. Thomas/Percy win for Hornby, James/Toby win for Bachmann.

  • @simierski Oops. My mistake.

  • @726berkshire - no problem. Has to be said, the next video is a rather epic win for one company...!

  • @simierski i thought hornby james won against bachmann james

  • @simierski I thought hornby won for james. because of all the repainting

  • @simierski no, will. it's 3-3. it's Spencer thomas percy win for hornby and edward james toby win for bachmann.

  • @simierski so wats the score now with bachmann and hornby????

  • @simierski Uh, question: Which model won for James's review and which model won Toby's review?

  • can you do henry vs henry or gordon vs gordon?

  • I'm guessing Spencer, since me and Gavin offered ours for you to borrow, and you asked for Emily which I'm not sure you have (I could be wrong).

Assuming it is Spencer, I look forward to it, I have mixed feelings about the bachman model and the hornby version is what you would call a "stunner" =)

  • Finally, a Toby vs Toby video! Very interesting, I must say; I would have thought the Hornby would have been a winner by a landslide. Sure had me fooled.

By the way, I'm excited to see your Non-Awdry character video. I can hardly wait!!!

  • YAY ITS *******

  • hey ieokimvideo i thourt you want lady next

  • look at this garden shed go

i would laugh so hard if this shed is more popular than Gordon or Spencer over time, now that would send shock waves through the Thomas community

  • Non-Awdry character

That reduces it to Spencer, Emily and Salty.

And Hornby hasn't made Salty, so that reduces it to Emily and Spencer.

I'm guessing it's Spencer, given how many people have guessed/voted for him.

I guess I'll have to wait a couple of weeks!

    It'll be worth it!

  • @BramGroatFilms - if you check the Copley Hill blog, you'll find out more...!

  • @BramGroatFilms yet that gives bachmann a win for having salty :D

  • whens the next uk vs usa review coming out . is it 18th of may

  • @MegaGreeny01 - 20th May.

  • whens the next uk vs usa review coming out . is it 18th of may

  • no problem

  • Lemme guess... Spencer vs Spencer. When will the next review be released?

  • @dcgitz - two weeks time. Watch the Copley Hill blog for more details!

  • Lemme guess... Spencer vs Spencer

  • Spencer next please

  • @leokimvideo - 501 comments - and your wish may be granted there, given the sheer number of PMs for him!

  • I vote gordon

  • I vote for Spencer. And sir Ralph should make a cameo appearence.

  • Emily is a no brainer

  • Henry

  • Toby would've technically won

    I pick edward

  • @simierski I still picked Edward! But right now, how many number of votes did each character get?

  • edward

  • Henry vs Henry and Bill and Ben vs Bill and Ben!

  • does bachmann do Spencer, if so he would be a good one to do

  • @leokimvideo Yes, Bachmann does Spencer.

  • @sonicxthomasexpert well if simierski does Spencer it will be interesting to see if it is as popular as Toby. Who would have thought a square dirt coloured tram would be soooooooo popular. It certainly caught me by surprise.

  • @leokimvideo I'll bet it did.

  • i vote Spencer please

  • I own the bachmann Toby and mine is quite slow too, but I say that is for the best. Remember the J70 trams aren't suppose to be racers, so i feel that Toby's pace compared to my other models adds some realism.

  • I vote for Henry vs Henry

  • Henry vs Henry

  • Gordon vs Gordon, Henry vs Henry, Bill and Ben vs Bill and Ben, lets see..... oh Edward vs Edward!

  • @9litch3s - seriously, 15? And you are making crass accusations like that. My god, grow up.

  • who did really win in the team tug of war

  • is casey jr 1:03

  • thats it make bachmann lady with the black small engine in 0:51

  • @123emilymason - um, no?

  • spencer vs spencer

  • If you aren't to bussy how much is 12.00 UK pounds in US dollars?

  • @thomasandferdinand14 - google it - dollar to pound conversion.

  • @thomasandferdinand14 about 20 us dollars as of may 3rd

  • gordon v gorden or henry v henry :)

  • @billsuncjon I go with hornby Herny vs bachmann Herny.

  • @simierski

Why did Gordon have Henry's tender at 4:05-4:09?

  • I'm suprised how different they are! Good review! I vote for... Bill and Ben?!

  • Where is Scott? He should see his former LNER 4472 glory because flying Scotsman in 1959 was BR 60103, which is scott's number.

  • @9litch3s - I'm 23...!

You don't like the videos - more than entitled to that view, one man's meat is another man's poison.

  • @simierski TBH, I don't really care how old you are its just that you sit watching Thomas and friends on Youtube i mean you search for it, if it comes on the TV its different.....

  • @9litch3s - I have a 4 year old godchild who loves Thomas. Go figure. I make money from toy reviews - natural progression of interest to job. I mean, you're a 20 year old who looks up computer glitches and puts them on your channel, what's up with that?

    Takes all kinds.

  • dont get it.A friend of mine have bachmann toby and he pulles 10 mk1coaches.Mmmmm strange

  • @JesusBlack14 - to be fair, the QC of the Bachmann models suggests to me that it depends entirely on how good your model is. I've had a lot of people say their James models are nowhere near as powerful as mine proved it was.

  • @JesusBlack14 yep it'a amazing how well they pull carriages down hill

work even better in free fall

  • @9litch3s Your a troll and i'm sorry but we're not going to feed you.

  • hornby toby has side rods now do gorden vs gorden

  • Say simierski, what kind of music do you use for the "Tug of War" segments? It's awesome!

  • I'm still voting for Gordon.

  • #2 - Most Discussed (This Week) - Education - United Kingdom

  • @leokimvideo - not sure why people marked your comment as spam, but I've unmarked it.

Tell you what, Toby is the sleeping giant of Thomas & Friends. I've heard a lot of people say they don't like Gordon, Thomas, Emily, Lady and so on, but not a single bad word for Toby. This video has opened my eyes to the power of the tram engine. I'll have to retract the garden shed comment, of course...!

  • @simierski the spam thing would be due to my many comments here, youtube hates spammers.

I feel much of Toby's appeal is he's so different to the other bright coloured big personality engines, he comes with a lot less baggage.

It's so easy to say Gordon or Spencer is beat, and sure they are the BIG characters, but as we know having a big character does not impress everyone.

Being mundane can have huge advantages in a alpha male stand off!

Real mojo comes in all shapes and sizes!

  • @leokimvideo - it's strange - I wonder if its the personality that comes with the character too?

So many people cite Edward as their favourite character, and its always down to the characteristics which to some extent Toby shares. Is it because Toby is not conventional in look that people seem to have hidden their fondness for this character?

  • @simierski Toby will be far more popular than Gordon, I know many will argue this but that's my gut feeling.

  • @TMRReturns opps thanks so it's 65 years, mind you some will argue this!

  • @leokimvideo - agreed on the arguing bit! XD

  • opps correction 66th year of Thomas!

  • I vote for Spencer

  • @trainguy111 - vote noted!

  • @simierski I hope you have the Hornby Spencer :) Like I said the other day he is extremely rare :)

  • If you haven't got him I wish you the best of luck on obtaining one; apart from reviews owning him would be a pleasure :) I have no Hornby Thomas stuff or anything but with it's increasing rarity of some characters I'm starting to think I should buy some.

  • simierski, have yoru considered looking at the larger scale bachmann v the large scale thomas

i know this would cost heaps of money but I am hearing the G scale thomas has some major issues and is a real cheap build

    what have you heard

  • @leokimvideo - I've heard a lot of mixed stories.

The main problem is quality control, not necessarily the design of the models themselves. They are designed to be cheap and functional, whilst also offering a fairly robust design. Unfortunately the main problem with both Thomas and Percy (can't comment on James) is their motor and geartrain design. On the Bachmann USA website, you can see the innards of the models by looking in the spares department for the G scale Thomas range.

  • @simierski pt1 there is a G scale modeller close to where I live, his layout is in his front yard. He was telling me the issues he's had with the Hornby Thomas G scale and reported to me it's basically expensive trash, I say expensive as you pay a premium because of it's connection to the franchise.

He's had lots of issues with the motor and basically reports it runs like a dog. Now you have to consider many G scale modellers choose G scale because they enjoy taking the hobby to the next level

  • @simierski pt2, i have him lined up to do a video about but I will also wrap around it a Christmas story. He said to me the only benefit adding Thomas and Percy to his layout was all of a sudden kids started to love his railway, before this his layout was basically ignored

he really had me thinking about the magnetic attraction of Thomas, and from that came the thought to see if I can nail down exactly what kids see in Thomas, is it the face, colour scheme or shape.

  • @simierski pt3 i know now a little more as I know the result from my son choosing between Tomy Thomas and Action Thomas, this has really detailed to me a very interesting aspect to the appeal of Thomas to a very young mind.

It's really powerful stuff, and I will even say it's life changing for many.

What other train in recent history has had such a impact on children? And really the hobby of model railways owes lots to the little blue engine.

  • @simierski pt4, BUT seeing the mass appeal of Toby throws all my ideas out the window related to the reason why Thomas is popular.

Toby has not got a classic shape, nor colour and his face lacks the cheeky charm of Thomas.

So has Toby got something even more primeval?

Maybe it's his number 7, whatever it is this garden shed has some magical power just like Thomas!

  • @simierski pt5, there is one thing which is really powerful and that's the toys and play which young children end up remembering all through their life, they will have flashback reminders of all the good things via this toy, and I know from the comments I have seen Thomas is a key component to so many people.

Those McD happy meal toys work on this principal, on my video much older people look back with good memories related to toys they remember, in a flash they are kids again

  • @simierski pt6 this also came out in that "my fav thomas contest". No matter how much you think you grow up the child is always inside.

My first sighting of the Thomas show was when I was in High School and it had a big impact on me then due to the amazing model work, how could you ignore a show like that?, it must have totally blown the minds of young children seeing all these bright coloured trains with faces coming alive in a fantasy world. Dare say same thing happened 65 years ago as well

  • @leokimvideo - ran out of space - point is, I'd definitely consider doing them, but only when money is better, and I've had a chance to think about how they could be tested well.

  • Edward

  • @Stuingtion - vote noted.

  • @Stuingtion I second this motion. Edward! :D

  • @bluecoatscheesypoofs - vote noted!

  • edward should be next PS in the next few days, i might get a new bachmann thomas

  • @cainman02 - vote noted! Next video will be out in a month.

  • The way this is going TOBY will overtake the other reviews in a few days, now who would have thought this character is so popular

I will even say TOBY is far more popular than Gordon, but what's interesting very few will say out in public they love TOBY, but we are seeing clearly this character has a huge pull on the fans.

  • @leokimvideo - it's certainly proved the voting system works - so many more people voted for toby by PM than commenting on the video!

  • I vote for Bachmann and Hornby Edward review next!

  • Spencer 4 next review

  • @koquicoqui - vote noted...!

  • after when you do that you made lady vs lady

  • @123emilymason I can't even guess how many timesit's been said that NO MODELS OF LADY EXIST!

  • @TheRyanCarMan I have a Lady ERTL which has a HO wheel conversion, it can be seen in my last upload!

so to be totally correct there are models of Lady, and I have a HO one!

dare say the argument will continue for weeks, months to come. why stop now!

  • @leokimvideo yes, I am aware of some conversions! I have seen yours and topkazfatt's models, which both look very good! thing is, the one user has been told there are no Hornby or Bachmann models to compare, so his comments are meaningless! Though, it would be very interesting to compare homemade Lady models!

  • @TheRyanCarMan Lady is yet another flash in the pan character, thats a big trait of this franchise.

  • @leokimvideo - now there's an idea...how easy is to convert one character into another...!

  • @123emilymason silly, there is no such thing!

  • make horby lady and bachman lady

  • Hornby>Bachmann

  • @simierski But why can't they participate?
