I geniunely love this video. My friends think that, because I used to race a TZ 250 I had no credibility. I never raced a 'big bike'. Your skill on a thousand is very respectable, but the 250 has some punch, none the less..... Extremely sobering to think that an engine that is only a quarter of a litre can keep a big bike at bay (and a big bike with a very smooth rider, at that...)
Thanks! Are the trackdays held by the tracks themselves or by 3rd party organizations who rent out the track? Are circuit licenses track-specific or good for any?
@lokigoesrawr There are several kinds of trackdays. I wrote above are held by the tracks themselves and they require the circuit license. On the other hand, some trackdays held by the track or by 3rd partys don't require the circuit license.
ok. so what.....the gixxer has twice the power. Watch how that little poo stroke pulls away from him initially. Its only near the end of the straights that the gixxer starts gaining ground by which time its.....shut off, lean in.......too late......
Id say both riders were more than competent. And it aint all about power. That tz puts out over 90hp but weighs a mere 102kg dry.
Imagine a 1000cc 2t, it would be ridiculous!
Just a shame two strokes put out so much pollution.
This is really a stupid argument the old 2-strokes(h2,h1,tz,rd,etc...are gp bikes that are incredably fast especially on flat tracks wear high speeds are maintained for a good period of time and busa's and gsxr's don't stand a chance unless they are double the size or better if this 250 was racing a 500 it would have burried it now on the other hand you can drag the old 2-stroke and they do ok but the gsxr's and ninja rockets do better .
And another fact is that the tz 250 is a race bike whereas the gsxr isn't. Anyway though no 4 stroke can get the same lap times with a 2-stroke bike under the hands of a guy who knows how to ride it.
in all fairness the gsxr1000 would destroy the tzr, but in some parts the gsxr really guns it and struggles to keep up with it, those old 2 smokers are incredible
In all fairness, if you have to redline a GSXR1000 to make it barely keep with a 250CC, then its not as fast as you think it is. Picture a 2 stroke RS500GP racing that little GSXR 1000
@g3gtsboy thats true but, like i said the first time picture a 2stoke RS500GP bike racing that little GSXR 1000. Which it also has twice the power of the 250. Would you also like to talk about the (weight to power) ratio of a TSS RS500GP bike?
one your comparing a gp bike to a street legal bike. so if you want to compare gp bike thats fine, ill take 2009 fiat 800cc bike riden by rossi. by the way im all for bringing 2 strokes back instead of motogp. they enter twined them for a year or 2, but the strokers couldnt keep up
@coalandnuclear yes GSXR1000 are street and so are Ninja ZX14s, your point? I was simply stating that big bore engines do not matter much, street legal or gp or what ever. GSXR1000 are gp as well.moto gp has plenty of those. 4stroke makes them street legal because they don't burn any oil.
what makes a gsxr 1000 street legal is the emmision equipment on it. moto gp bikes are not street legal. 2 stroke bikes can be street legal, just not as new bikes. there are plenty of old suzukis still running around with plates on them. also moto gp does not use gsxr 1000, they use gsv. its 800 not 1000. all moto gp are. wsb and ama superbike use 1000, they are based on stock production bikes, but are not street legal, and they are 4 stroke
@coalandnuclear now how in the world would you know if the GSXR1000 thats racing the tz is even street legal. This is beginning to be a pointless discussion. Like I said from the very beginning big bore engines mean nothing when a 2T is around. Old or present. when i say that i mean Aprilia RS250 and the converted version TSS RS500GP do some homework on these bikes
@powertoweight100 i quote you "4stroke makes them street legal because they don't burn any oil"i never said this gsxr was. also you are thinking that this 1000 rider is just as good as the 250 rider. 250cc 2strokes run about the same lap times as 600cc 4strokes. {with great riders} the 250 have about 90 hp and handle freaking awesome but the racing 600cc 4stroke can make up to 130 hp but dont handle quite as well.
that means quote means much a 4stroke can be modified for street use. catalytic converter, fuel system, etc.. (My question is how do you know this GSXR1000 is street legal)??
500 GP bikes faded away because the weren't getting faster and 250's were rapidly gaining on their lap times. That's when I stopped watching Motogp. But I have to disagree with petralakos. Their would be plenty of GP riders willing to step and ride a big 2stoke if it were competitive.
This clearly proves 2 strokes are true racing bikes, 4 strokes are shit! the Stupid eu laws proventing 2 strokes being made anymore should be abolished!!!
The reason the current 4 stroke gp bikes are faster than 2 stoke 500's is because they were limited to 500cc's. If a 750 2 stroke were allowed it would kill a 4 stroke.
the reason is that a 500 2 stroke bike is very fast and very dificult to drive no engine brake low weight and more thats the reason ... a 500 2 stroke can be faster than 4 stroke 800 but who will drive it fast?
i hope you realize power is the amount of work per time, so if it made the same power in half the time, well it would have double the power per one unit of time, pure physics...
The tz250 could be much faster from the aspect of cornering than the 1000 because it's heavier and the breaking distance is longer. But on the straigts however the bigger one is the winner.
My GOD, Motegi is a MOTOGP level track and its too small for a gixer? Then where can a gixer really run? just on highway? Then wats the difference between gixer with a funny y2k? Face the fact, race spec 2T bike is FAST!
Please cut off 3 cilinders, weld the valves to the cilinderhead, modify your crankcase and put a carb on it and get a real exhaust. Maybe you will get descent power and a better sound.
Come on guys, obviously the 1000 would beat it on the track, but u gota give the 250 alota respect for its pace

How do trackdays work in Japan and how often are they held for amateur enthusiasts?

5-10 times a month, about $30 for one session(30min). In addition, about $200 per year to hold circuit license. My license expired a few years ago...

and that is why the current 4 stroke moto gp bikes are lapping faster than the 500cc 2 strokes I suppose?
fatmeteor 2 years ago
Keep in mind the general level of technology used on both of the machines...
If you put all this modern machine and suspension gadgets on an old 2 stroke, you'll definitely get better lap times.
It's pure physics... 2 stroke makes the same power in half less time than the 4 stroke does ;)

i hope you realize power is the amount of work per time, so if it made the same power in half the time, well it would have double the power per one unit of time, pure physics...
TrueStrengthClub 1 year ago
@TrueStrengthClub I think it would be more of a physics+mathematics play...
If our words were put to a formula, then:
4t: P=W/t
and 2t makes same work/power in half of the time: P=W/0,5t
...but if you see it through time as a fixed value in both formulas, for 2t you come to this: P=2W/t
Practically we said the same correct thing with different points of view, right? XD

its fast coz its a tight track, and the lighter/more nimble bike can take the track better. the tz would pwn it all round except straights.
