This passage is from page 287 chapter 34 entitled among women which is from The Man in the Iron Mask which was written by Alexandre Dumas pere in 1848. 'Coincidentally' in 1848 the Society of Jesus(Jesuits) were ousted from France for the second time. " Aramis took the good things in this life as steppingstones to rise to bad ones."
The bass player should be shot and Mick Box should be bitch-slapped for his wimpy tone. The song lacks all the dynamics of the studio LP, beginning with the forceful organ during the intro. During the guitar solo all I can hear is the bass player trying to outdo Gary Thain. It's a guitar solo for Chrissake! Long live Byron and Hensley.
The best thing about Uriah Heep is .....No ego's, No Bullshit........wonderful musicians past and present but above all else Great, great music.long may they play.
@drumsanddrumming I disagree. It was Hensley who changed the sound in the late 70's. Anyone (any keyboardplayer, that is) can play exactly like Hensley did, but no one can come up with the same great songs. I guess what I'm trying to say is that the change in sound has more to do with different times than Hensley leaving the band. I don't think even Ken Hensley could make a new Demons and Wizards today if he wanted to.
heep always was and always will be a top notch act , they should have been given a lot more credit for thier music , they deserved much more recognition
@Mega5109 yes, so right, there are sadly, in every era, bands that go basically unnoticed with little recognition, Robin Trower and his band suffered the same fate, as did the Fixx in the 80's. But those of us who loved music as much as we did and do now, the Heep are part of our memories and libraries!!!!!!!
Even today I could pick Box's guitar tone out of a line up blindfolded. I always thought he was one of the most expressive guitarists out there. I love that wah-wah sound. I just picked up Wake the Sleeper and noticed they have returned to their original Hensley era songwriting (or perhaps they returned a long time ago and I just now noticed). I think someday Heep will be recognized as innovators. No one else (but copycats Styx) combined hard rock with beautiful harmonies like that.
The drummer has since been replaced by some 40 year old double kicking power monger. Haha, I kinda like it. You can't freeze time (unless you're AC/DC). :)
What a song, what lyrics. I was there, I was 14 at that time. No one can replace Byron or Gary Thain, but playing also their songs is every time like playing in honour to these wonderful musicians.
i doesnt try to compare because david byron its david byron , that magic moment gone , actually i prefer play my own lp and close my eyes , this line up its ok but never be uriah heep
What's with the bass solo through the whole song? I love busy bass when it's appropriate but that was ridiculous. When will Mick Box change his tone or raise his volume? What a horrible replacement for David Byron, They should have just disbanded. Nice try, guys. Thanks for the vid.
tachon77 .. eres un verdadero idiota.. Byron tiene su "feeling".. pero bernie lo hace muy bien y dio un sentido mas responsable a la banda.. es mas.. me atreveria a decir que Uriah Heep.. esta en su mejor momento.. Grande .. U.H....!!!
@metalicper ESTOY DE ACUERDO QUE BERNIE ES UN GRAN MUSICO Y TAMBIEN Q UH ESTA EN UN BUEN MOMENTO PERO BYRON ES BYRON INDISCUTIBLEMENTE EL MEJOR VOCALISTA DE URIAH HEEP HERMANO SALUDOS Y MUY BUENA CANCION EN VIVO
Saludos @alberthurt1 .. humm..
I think everyone is torqued that there aren't many original guys left from the original lineup, so how can the band be called URIAH HEEP...call it the "one guy left" that carries on the band name...but is it REALLY the band??? ask Gene Simmons in a couple of years....
im going out to the titan(shed) to dig out my old records and if the player still plays i'll scare the spiders liked them in 73 still do haven't heard them for yonks
Did Trevor somehow manage to channel Gary thain? Having been a fan of Gary's since 1972, This is the closest I have ever heard of anyone getting to Gary,s unique sound.. Great job Trevor..
@Alzerni There's quite a bit of clipping distortion, actually. Maybe that goes to show how badly the music industry has dumbed down listeners, when it comes to sound quality.
Does anyone know if this is on a DVD? (probably would be a lot cleaner sound). I kinda like the intro / harmony -- works pretty well, since David Byron is not available!
I watched Heep in concert both times they came to India - more than 20 years apart. Their gig in Bangalore back in the 80s is still remembered for a strange incident - an inebriated fan managed to bite Pete Goalby in the butt! On the second occasion, it was Bernie Shaw at the mike stand. Boy, what a frontman and what a singer! I had goosebumps when he sang the Byron-era classics, and I remember this song blowing me away completely. Surprise: the audience seemed to know most songs in the set.
@HippieInHeart " I am not happy about the rebirth of the Jesuits. Swarms of them will present themselves with more disguises ever taken by even a chief of the Bohemians - as printers, writers, school teachers, etc. If ever an association of people deserved eternal damnation, on this earth and in hell, it is this Society of Loyola (1816).
@drawbarB3 - the Hammond B3 is still there, but not utilized in the same way or as prominently as the way Hensley made it an integral part of Heep's "sound."
