  • ive always wanted a pretty tiara but i wear headbands instead :P

  • this whole video describes my dancing life hate my mum giving me fake tan though she always messes it up

  • Very good video, although I have to say I know several Irish dancers and NONE of them tan, fake or otherwise. Two of my friends have danced with the touring group of Riverdance and none of them tan. I think it's an awful thing to teach kids they have to be tan to look healthy. If you go to Scotland or Ireland you do not see tan people! LOL.

  • Jesuss Dont Be Meann! It's A Really Good Video! It's Actually Really True That Is Everything I Do For A Comp Believe Me I Have Been Dancin For Years!!

  • Comment removed

  • at 1:19 they r sitting there having tea and she is dancing.. weird

  • @fnmc1999x

this girl was just making a video for a bit of fun, she was really explaining what you do to get ready for a feis, take your mean-spirited comments to another palce

  • I love the Dress x

  • thats not the life of an irish dancer.:/

  • @fnmc1999x it is like :/ so whats the life of an irish dancer so ?

  • what about putting on makeup????

  • @mrdoodlemaster

    hahahahahah you are sooo right!!

  • Lol I just love how everybody's complaining about fake tans and I'm just thinking " lol I don't get sunburn often, but I do tan easily" xDDDD

And I love the solo dresses!!!!!

But our tiernan team dresses are so beautiful and intricate!

I love to Irish dance :3

  • Lol but if you're a tiernan Irish dancer you don't have a tiara xD

  • I personally don't tan and I wear a wig but i don't wear a tiara I wear a headband and I don't always use sock glue

  • (NO OFFENCE) but they do wear tan and they do wear a wig I do to Irish dancing aswel!

  • can i just say, i am an irish dancer, i've being doing it for 8 years and i've wont all ireland championships three time. just to let you know, most dancers

    1. do not wear tan

2, do not wear a wig

    3.wear small headbands not tiaras

    4.dont need sock glue

and finally, we enter a dance competition, not a beauty pageant....

  • @AshlieBbe12- Okay that's how IRISH dance is now adays so dont be thinking tht having tan legs wearing a wig and wearing SOCK GLUE is a beauty pageant. Cause its not. Some people do what you do and tht's fine but don't be saying its a beauty pageant for people who do it differently.

  • @danceresultsx now adays we still dont wear all this either, its taking the whole point away from the history of irish dance, im only fourteen so you cant say that things have changed now because im still young, you get judged on your costumes not your footwork. CRN is probably the only group that stick to the background of real irish dance and look at the dancer's footwork and co-ordination

  • @AshlieBbe12 No. It doen't. It just makes irish dance more fun with putting on makeup and the wigs. I'm fourteen too and have been dancing for 10 years and not once have i been judged on my costume and not my footwork. It's fine that your dance school does it differently then a lot of other dance schools but don't be saying that your dance school is the only one that actually watches the dancers foorwork, because EVERY dance school watches footwork. or else it wouldn't be called irish DANCING.

  • @AshlieBbe12 I'm an Irish dancer too!

But..what you're saying is pretty much wrong, most dancers:

    1. Do wear a wig. Plenty of people don't, but once you're at the feis and competing most dancers wear wigs, at least novice + up.

    2. The headbands and tiaras are apart of the costume, and I rarely see a dancer that doesn't have a headband or tiara on at a feis.

    3. Sock glue is a life saver, would you want your socks falling down on stage? not everyone wears it, but it's pretty important!

  • @AshlieBbe12 Sorry.. i ran out of characters. (:

Anyways, not everyone wears a tan, mainly champs and sometimes prizewinner..

of course irish dance isn't a pageant, but you at least want to look somewhat presentable. but let's not make a big deal out of this..

    :)

  • There is no reason to tan or stuff like that..the judges look at your outfit (even before you start dancing) and your dance they don't look to see if you are tan or not this is not a modeling job

  • what's the name of that song?

  • @andymec11 Reel i think

  • whats the song calles in the back round.. xx

  • @miggymog1999 Reel I think

  • I really like this video!

  • yeah whats the name of the song

  • what music is that ???

its very good for exersisng and streching whats the name of that?

  • we use this music in our class

  • Doe sanyone know the name of the dancer at 1:12?? xx

    is it erin trevena? xx

  • @Hannibo123 no its maggie darlinton

  • @IrishDancingBabe14 Aah Right, i didnt think erin had a dress like that but the face kindaa looked like her so i wasnt sure xx

  • no its maggie darlinton

  • Lol I call poodle socks bubble socks!:)

  • I'm an Irish dancer and have never had a fake tan, I heard dat you can get skin cancer from it.

  • Why in the world would you need to fake tan? Most Irish are fair? My daughter is fair and she won't be doing that in competition. But very cute video!

  • @TheMcKinleyClan its mostly for older champion dancers that tan and only for really big feiseanna ! its because when your on stage the lights wash out pale legs so you tan them so the judges can see them without you being washed out !

  • Guys what is up with all the complaining about tan..?? Like jeez...it washes off n takes lik 5mins to put on!! It's not bad.!! If u wanna complain bou suhn, complain about the wigs!!! We shudn hafta wear dem!! Or curl our hair, jus keep our hair natural.!!.wigs are heavy, itchy, sweaty, and jus stupid.!!.

  • @Janemeryl wel acutally u ge more points for wigs and curls.its no point in keepin ur hair down cuz like u wont get much points :\ i wears a wig and my hair in curls.

  • You forgot on dying on training :))) I love gillies...

  • i wouldnt wanna wear fake tan when i do my comps its fake and gross and it makes you fake when you grow up its pointless my mum or dance teacher wouldnt let us where fake tan.

  • My dress was $800 I don't tan. But I do hate it when all my 'friends' think that they can do irish dancing. Its called making fun of people and they don't even see that. Irish dancing is an amazing thing to be able to do :)

  • weird... I just put my shoes on...

  • I need some sock glue

  • I love Irish Dancing, but in my dancing we don't wear tan, wigs or sock glue!

My Dublin Championships start on Friday, so good luck to all who is going and please wish me luck! I'll be dancing under 12's!

And great video, I watch it every day!

  • @jayenergy Hi I was wondering ...are the costumes expensive? Like how much are they? Thanks ^^

  • @gabbydancefever The costumes are about £1000 - £2000 for the dress, £60 - £100 for the wig, £5 for the poodle socks and £20 for the tiara.

  • @SpiceberryRose their not dat much there usally couple of hundred and the wigs r like 50 nd the socks r 5 nd the tiaras r 10-15.

  • @gabbydancefever And don't forget the money for gas, money for practice, hotel rooms, medical bills... This ain't a sport just for the pretty dresses. :D

  • my namez layla 2

  • the picture of the girl dancing is my brother's girlfriend!!!

    she is from sydney xx

  • the reason for the tan is so its easier for the judges to see your legs under the stage lights.

  • i always tan, and if we didnt all these champions wouldnt be were they are today , tbh its apart of the dancing , and if you dont like it , dont do it... no need to critisize what everyone else does?

  • I have always put on fake tan but i always tought it was really stupid!. I love this music!! :) What song is it?.

  • when you tan you look more professional..and back then irish people never tanned because their dresses were long and covered their legs..judges tend to notice you more if you look like a pro...

  • omg wat de hell we irish who havepride in our dance dont tan and only the crappy dancers do

  • No need for the tanning.

  • wats the song

  • @limerickmeghan It's called 'Showcase', it's by Dean Crouch, and it's on his album 'Top Box'

  • I never tanned! When did people start doing this?

  • i dont tan when im dancing. im 12 gona be 13 soon and im in tus and mean but i never tan.i think it stuped because irish people were never tan.they had white skin

  • ooo gosh since wen do natural dancers tann

  • Comment removed

  • i love the build up to feises, getting ready is half the fun! i think it gets you all hyped up!! :D xxx

  • @xCestTresChiquex Completely! Espicially waiting to dance and watching the girls your going up against practice!

  • @ZoeSkitMaster you totally get butterflies(in a good way lol) when you are standing at the side of the stage waiting for your turn to perform! :D x

  • @xCestTresChiquex And total confidence when the judge looks your way and smiles! Or finding your number on the board saying you placed!!! What level are you??? Im Novice, so kinda new to the whole feis experience, but i love it!

  • I must ask what is this song? I forgot what its call.

  • yehto be honest we do do things diffrently i agrre with charlotte but we areall irish dancers and arepart of the same lifestyle so as long AS WE ENJOY IT WHO CARES IF WE WERE FAKE TAN OR TIARAS !!!!!!

  • @irishdancerism SAme, i mean y bother with a fake tan when ur poodle socks go up to your knees, your dress ends above yours knees, and you have long sleeves, and your dress is up to your neck, it doesn't really matter i mean its not going to make you dance better

  • i completley agree whats the point im a irish dancer myself and i dont tan either but i love irish dancing its what i want to do now and always and it bugs me when people pretend they do it just for publicity its sick

  • you must be from a different country to me because we do alot of things differently..

i dont tan, or wear tights,

    i dont wear a wig,

    i dont use sock glue,

and can i just say, the dress you first show is absolutly LUSH, i love it!

  • @charlottecoffey im from Wales, in the UK.

  • @charlottecoffey You don't use sock glue? But don't your socks slip down? It's one of the bizarre things that despite my distaste for the others, I still use!

  • @4096quagmire nope they dnt slip down.

  • whats the song to this video?

  • @12345ELLA678910 The first song i think is maybe a glasgow reel. im not completely sure tho

  • @surf2thestars24 Its Dean Crouch , Showcase

  • that 1st pink dress was gorgeous!

  • what is the music?

  • @IDchampAZ It is reel called Tam Lin or Glasgow reel (to 1:53 - after 1:53 I don´t know)

  • wen tan is subtle and the right colour it looks ok but I was at a feis once and this girlwas dancing she had a lovely posture and she was a lovely dancer but her legs were sooooo dark and her hands face and neck were soo white it looked Ridiculously funny hehe Xx!xX

  • It is hard being a iriish dancer i will say that and i am not lying its really hard with the ppractise the competitions the shows ireland extra preacting all thepeople who dont do that i would like to see them doing it every week x

  • What´s the reel before Tam Lin??

  • im glad im naturally tanned thanks to being half italian, my other half is ukrainian and irish :P:P

but yeah, irish people are fair skinned, the fake tanning is definetly a waste! im starting irish dance in september (hopefully) :P, and yeah im pumped! ive done ballet and tap for 14 years so i should be fine ;)

as for the wigs, i can see why there used less time consuming, but little kids definetly should not wear those big wigs on their tiny heads :P

  • @taryndancer29 Good luck with starting irish dancing, ive been doing it for 10 years now, and before that i did ballet, and i must say it is a bigggg change because you can't use your arms at all! :)

  • @californialove31

haha my friend taught me a little irish dance a while ago, and i actually in ballet i always got nagged for my arms, it was always taryn your leg work is fine but your ARMS! haha guess i wont have that worry :P

  • `i'm from northern ireland and i don't wear a wig or tan we wear black tights :)

  • I have been a highland dancer for 12 years but I have been looking at Irish dancing videos, it looks so funn !! I'm really good at our highland jig but does anyone know if it would be hard for me to change styles since I'm so used to highland if i was wanting to have a change ? :)

  • I do tan and wear make up and go full out for the dress and wig because now judges look at everything! and i hate when people say you dont need to be strong to do irish step!!

  • The americans made this crap, wigs dresses tan etc. Not the irish, it was never like that.

  • @ExtraordinaryxEmilyx - That's what I heard, too. I know someone who grew up in Ireland, and they were saying it was nothing like that etc. She thinks it's all crazy!

  • @ExtraordinaryxEmilyx personly i dont think thats true... The dancers from overseas take up the majority of the top placements at majors like worlds, and they are the ones who start the trends. Alllll the top dressmakers and vendors are also located in the UK as well. maybe it was never like that before...but trends change. not saying thers anything wrong with it though! I LOOVEEE it :)

  • @IrishDancerSarah sooo true :) trends start from all around, some may be rediculous some totally awesome :)

  • cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • My first feis: I never wore any makeup AT ALL! not even eyeliner lipstick or eyeshadow,I like the wigs and poodle socks and dresses(that aren't too overexaggerated) but I think the tan is over the limits, but hey,it's my opininon people can do whatever they want, some times little kids wear huge senior wigs and it look like wtf... but people can do whatever they want to do and wear so keep you're opinions too yourself unless someone ask you to say them o.o

  • Im gonna do irish dancing in may and im soo excited!! I have never done it befor but im irish and have a lot of red hair! Soo im soo excited any tips?

  • fucking irish dancing is some kind of suburban cult. kids forced into it by the worst form of soccer moms

  • @bandwagonretards for your information, many girls (and boys) choose to Irish Dance, such as myself, and probably any person who has commented on this page and has some sort of name that has to do with Irish Dance chose it for themselves. Most Irish Dance studios don't even let kids start until they are 5 or 6- when they can say no, I don't want to do this.

  • @bandwagonretards ...

    seriously?

Irish dance is.. apart of me. I've been doing it for such a long time, and hey, it was my choice to start dancing!

maybe you should think before you post..

  • this video is so true!!!!! i love it but if i could change one thing it would be the tan... not everyone does

  • cool...

  • Don't you hate when people who don't do Irish Dance "claim" they know how to Irish Dance? It's really annoying. I compete and I DON't TAN!!!!!!

  • @mrdoodlemaster exactly

  • @mrdoodlemaster it annoys the HECK otta me n same here about the tan. The irish arn't suppost to have to tan of skin and judges dnt care about tans either. Compeating for 8 yrs now :)

  • @mrdoodlemaster Neither Do I ...

  • @mrdoodlemaster you have to tan now but its not a requirement for every feis, its only for oreachtas and worlds.

  • personally i wear skin coloured tights instead of fake tan .... its a lot better :)

  • @ILoveYouuLJ I was thinking about doing this.. does it look just as good as tanning. I tan but maybe this would be easier..

  • @ILoveYouuLJ ya bu i did 1ce and got discralafied because they ripped ever since i wore fake tan

  • Does anyone know what this song is? =)

  • @IrishDancerfly

This is the Dean Couch's "Showcase" from his album Top Box - the original music is "The Glasgow Reel"!

  • Ok 3 things. 1st tanning is unnecessary.

2nd people still curl their hair instead of buying wigs. And 3rd You can also wear tights instead of socks.

  • I don't tan, I never have tanned, and I think tanning is pointless. Irish people are fair skinned! Besides, the younger girls get the wrong impression of what it really means to be an Irish dancer when you distract them with the fake tan and big wigs. It's unnatural for an 8 year old to have darker legs than their face and a wig bigger than their body.

  • PS: I'm 20 years old and I've been dancing for 13 years. I am also currently studying to be a TCRG. Judges won't care how you look IF your a good dancer. I've watched open champions win 1st dancing with no wig, black skirt, black tights, black top because they grew out of their costume to quickly.

  • @idrownincrimson hi what organisation are you in ??? im in an codhail

  • they never said any thing about make up!

  • I irish dance if u request what step ill do it

  • I never wear tan or sock glue?My wig is fine and looks real, i think its not about what you look like, its how good you are at

dancing and if you look hard enough you will see that the judges in the competitions couldnt care less about anything apart from your ability to dance

  • @Madfrankinterview actually they do care. if your socks fall down during your dance you get points taken off. Dancers wear tan because the lighting on the stage make your skin a weird color. dont be dissing us real dancers

  • and what level would you be dancing in?

This will be my third year dancing Oireachtas Rince na Cruinne (worlds) and to have any chance at just recalling, you have to have the full package! No matter what anyone says, the looks are important.

  • I heard the tan was so pale people didn't look sickly next to really tan people (and I may be wrong about this) I personally never wear a wig at all because my hair is curly. I think that the judges SHOULD just care about your dancing but that some of them care about the makeup and tanning and stuff. Sometimes I wish things were more simple but the looks are important.

  • @Liz3j the judges score on a basis of 25 point categories. I believe it's rhythm, timing, posture, and something (excuse me if i'm wrong, i probably am on the categories! i've been dancing for so long, but can never get the scoring straight) anyways, the judges do look at your appearance, but barely care. YOu just need to be presentable, with dance shoes, socks/tights, a dress (not boys, of course!) and what not.

  • @mrdoodlemaster I've started wearing a wig now, ever since I got my solo dress. I still don't tan for competitions, but I will when I go to the Southern Region Oireachtas this year. I know being presentable matters! Sloppy looks are almost (but not quite) as bad a sloppy dancing.

  • really good video!!!!!!well done!!!!

i have been doing irish dancing for 8 years and that is a well made video!!!

  • it keeps the dress clean to put dress then shoes

  • u put your dress on then your shoes, and i is like a beauty pagent, and if u are good u win all the time (like i did). But i have moved on to jump rope and i can irish dance wile jump roping so can my sister

  • what r u guys talkin about ive done irish dance for 7 years and its awsome. the wigs are awsome and the tiaras also the makeup is awsome u guys need to get a grip its just like a beauty pagent

  • woooo! my friend qualified for worlds!!!!!

  • whats the song that starts at 00:46 ? i cant remember the name! ive danced to it proabably a million times.

i also cant stand the fake tan and ugly fake wigs... your irish, youre not supposed to be tan and the hair is supposed to look real.

  • It's too bad that the judges care about the looks all too often... I've gotten points taken off for not having a wig.

  • i never used fake tan or put on tiaras, and my wig looked real, and i probably won more metals and ribbons when i was 8 years old than these fake dancers did in their whole career. irish dancing is getting way to americanized with makeup and glitter and remixes of irish music! grr!

  • Epoilpre: Yeah, because only American dancers wear makeup, glitter, and fake tan. British dancers are 100% traditional. :P *sarcasm*

Yeah, I do hate makeup though, but not as much as I hate fake tan.

Lovely vid, but you forgot the parts where we dance for community service and the people in need. THE best part of dancing is dancing for others.

  • Great Video

    Watch ours Please :D

  • song???

    xoxo

  • I'm sorry, but irish dancers have real lives besides going to competitions and going to oireachtas. I'm quitting irish dance because lots of them are stuck up snobs. I would much rather just be irish!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ANd not everyone wears a fake tan and plasters makeup all over their face. This was a poor video.

  • I agree with you,unchosenone180.

    Thanks for saying it!

  • that's not a reason to quit irish dance!

  • this is so true im an irish dancer and it can be such a pain. you forgot waking up at 3 in the morning at skipping breakfeast at the hotel though

  • omg i totally agree with that! :) im going to the boise feis next weekend!

  • i no fofo

  • gr8 vid

  • Haha love this video.

Yup, the best part of a feis (after the dancing, of course!) is celebrating after. Anybody else going to oireachtas???

  • my sisters go irish dancing and they do all that stuff.......it tires them out..early nite 4 them!!!!!!:D

  • A lot of the older dancers wear wigs to save time on curling their hair. If you're a beginner and you have naturally very curly hair then by all means, go natural. Gosh, we have so many steps to getting ready. I started dancing when i was 5, and am now in Prelims. I still love to dance, and hope to continue dancing after i graduate. Love the music from the video.

  • i love this! if your hair would curl like that naturally, do you have to wear a wig? (i'm starting dance in a few weeks!! XD)

  • I never wear a wig!! :)

  • @Liz3j Lol! Thanks! I don't wear a wig either now! =)

  • Next week is my 3rd Irish dance lesson, and I seriously don't see why you have to wear a fake tan. (I MEAN COME ON. I have Irish skin, so my mom says, and I'm either pale or sunburned. Since when are Irish people tanned?) I wouldn't put on a fake tan if I went to a competition. I would leave my skin natural.

But anyways, I liked the vid.

  • they do it so the dancres dont have marks on your legs when you dance. its more for just performance/costume quality!

  • What is the name of this song? by the way, I'm going to the Utah Feis tomorrow! I'm so excited!

  • I won worlds this year it was awesome! And I really like this video!!!

  • lol i train in other types of dance but i have just become intersted in irish and think it would be fun to take lessons am i to old oh by the way im15

  • I started when I was thirteen.

There are tons of dance schools that would take you.

  • thanks ican do sum of the basics so maybe i would survive easier

  • I started at fourteen.

  • Thats My Sister In The Picture Where A Girl Is jumpin And Another Gurl Is Sittin Down Drinkin Tea opposite The Mayor Of Belfast .. she Is the Gurl sittin Down In Orange dress.. :)

  • im an irish dancer2 an yes its dead hard ! but we all lurv it x

  • im a dancer, just not irish, i hope to start taking lessons in september though:)

my friend does this, the whole tanning thing is silly, since when are irish people actually tanned? haha

  • i do irish step dancing to

  • what is that music called and yeah iv been irish dancing for 9 years and you tan for championships but not normal comps at my dance school but it is different wherever u are in the world and the youngest age 4 championships is 5 in australia but it is also different all around the world and yea it is kinda stupid to tan i agree but if u dont u loose heaps of championship points

  • wats that song in the video called?!?!?! i need itt!

  • Showcase, it's on Dean Crouch's Top Box CD.

  • I never realized that Irish dancers wore wigs! I thought they had there hair all curled :P

  • Comment removed

  • haha! lol But that would take a long time!!! :P

  • Beginners often curl their hair, but usually in Advanced beginner/novice they will start wearing a wig.

  • Could someone please tell me the name of that music in the vid please.. =) x x x

  • yea a lot of people tan 4 championships sum people tan 4 normal comps but not me and yea the yougest age 4 world champs is 5
