people all over the globe has something in common, but also something in difference, everyone has their own sense of art, so, you can compare indian music to chinese music, they're ifferent, but both are beautiful, rock and roll and indian sitar, both beautiful, but they're different. So, what does that mean? Everyone has their own sense of art, everyone's passion, spirit, and soul, are all beautiful...
Wow, I guess I should not listen to what I thought was lovely music. Everyone wants to argue. I think I will just go to a bar-b que and eat some good food. The music section you have with the opening tag at the very front ruins it all. I'm not even gonna watch this whole video. Nice job - you overproduced it. Less is more.
hmm .. guess i was completely wrong abt the echo and time signature relation .. plz forgive my ignorance... i actually thought that the timing of notes was split into unequal intervals ! lol .. after reading somwhr abt time signatures .. i realize wat a fool i was.
i have no understanding of time signature myself... but i think that maybe this piece sounds off beat at times because of the echo effect which produces additional beats. Maybe when it comes to pop music , these echoes might not sound out of tune because of the particular time sequence of the music. But here it seems to have distorted the intended sound. This is just my opinion .. i dont know for sure.
Try John Mclaughlin SHAKTI le danse du bonheur - jazz/rock musician plays Indian music and finds it very complex and beautiful. You are all stuck on your 4/4 islands little realising what isout there and how easy 4/4 is - which is why 99%+ of pop is 4/4

@ketanisgods Justin Bieber obviously has much more complexity in his music. For example, the song "baby" has many distinct rhythyms, tempo changes, and tasteful harmonies. The spoken interlude by Ludacris was inserted to create a sense of mystique within the listener's mind. Justin Bieber is the greatest musician that will ever be produced. His decades upon decades of musical training have allowed him to capture human emotion in musical form. Justin Bieber's feces are better than this video.
@alsharpton666 you're kiddin' right? uff i thought you were meanin' it hahaha .... i've seen better artists than that Justin b.. but whatever...i "respet" your tastes or whatever you say it....but itsFOR SURE theres a lot music better than justin...A LOT BETTER
@alsharpton666 Yeah prime example of the West no knowledge of history art or culture of any relevance. Of course you know it all even if your country is like 200 years old. Of course nobody else that has been on Earth for thousands of years could possibly have any knowledge. You don't even know the level of your ignorance. If you did those like you wouldn't make a fool of yourself. You probably can't even point to India on the map..yeah France is a continent too pfft. LOL joke is on you
@alsharpton666 Justin Beiber hasn't even been around for more than one generation...isn't he 15? how could he even have "decades upon decades of musical training"?
I am a westerner who just started listening to non-western music. I just want everyone to know that we are not all brainwashed, and only recognize American music as being on beat... My mind is very open to all sounds and when I hear music, I actually LISTEN. No one had to tell me that this is how Indian music was supposed to sound. It was quite apparent to me that this is what it is supposed to sound like, and it sounds incredible!!!
actually indian classical music is 90-95% improv, but it usually does have at least some sense of direction through composition. im not entirely sure about this piece, but that is how traditional indian classical music is - mostly improvisation.
@Verdismusic : Actually, the in this short video is completely improvised music. It doesn't have any name as such, but this piece is based on the raag called Chandrakauns, and the musicians improvise on the spot, in keeping with the characteristics of that raag. That's Indian classical music for you.
First of all, timing in indian music is very different and a lot more complex than anything you will find in the west. So if it sounds off to you, its because you have no sense of musical, I dont mean that offensively, most people dont have a sense of musical time. Furthermore, western musicians will struggle grasping the timing as the time signatures are very atypical for western. Keep listening and expanding your mind!
@camel04 I love this music so much! It's true, the beginning especially is so complex! though at the end its really easy to feel a 7 beat pattern... the drum is accenting the '2','4', and '7'.
@camel04 Quite right, the patterns of sound in Indian music are very different from the ones many people in the west would be used to. Someone who grew up with this music would probably find our music just as difficult to listen to; they just aren't used to the patterns. Continued listening will eventually bring about a better understanding of how this music works.
@NinetiesYouth I studied classical western music here in the US and I really do appreciate Indian music. I don't really compare it to Western classical because they seem so different to me. Indian music uses more notes within the octave, meaning there are more tones per octave in Indian music. Also, instrumentation is traditionally different as well. I find it beautiful. I also love the singing and much of the dancing.
@NinetiesYouth you are very wrong there. Indian music has harmony..you would realize this if you actually listened. this piece is very sophisticated and harmonic
many westerners get confused when indian classical musicians play cross rythms, and it looks off beat. but i can assure u their sense of beat is absolutely spot on.
The rhythm what you are used to and what is followed here is quite different and until you sit there in the concert and listen to them live, you can't get the feel of it.
On the left side it is "mridangam" which is a south Indian( Carnatic Music) instrument and the on the right side it is "tabla " which is a north Indian (Hindustani Music) instument. Normally the Mridangam do not accompany the Sitar, here it a kind of Fusion music.
the music is so much more real than what you hear on the radio. There's so much spirit in India that the West refuses to try to understand... it really proves wrong those nihilistic philosophies so prevalent here
techno is very much from detroit, arguably as much from europe. it has very black roots. juan atkins, derrick may, paris the black fu, terrance parker, aux 88, green velvet, carl craig, stacey pullen, kevin saunderson, just to name some.
the elongated one is the mridangam as rightly pointed out by campus...its a south indian percussion instrument. the tabla ofcourse is identical except the fact that it has originated from khol/pakhawaj, a traditional north india percussion instrument. the two parts of tabla are called 'baaya' for the left hand and 'daanya' for the right hand.
the pair is not tabla the small one is tabla and the left hand one is bhaya (i think that how you spell it ) it means left in hindi and you are right the second drums is dhola...and i play the tabla .
OMG, that sitar player is faster than Yngwie Malmsteen!!
LOL, I mean, how fast his fingers go up and down the fretboard is amazing. Man, I wish I was there to see that quartet live, because the sound of the recording sucks quite bad...
