i've fallen off 5 times in my three and a half years of riding, i i'm just that awesome :) personally i don't think that's the best way to teach a kid to ride, a refusal means a fall if you ride that way :/
@9GoldenEagle9 Wow haha! I used to have a loan horse that didn't really like having a rider on her back ;] but she made me much more confident and sturdy! I probably fell off 1-5 times a week when I loaned her!
The First fall i had off of my pony Barry (hes my only and first pony) was really bad!! But i was going full stretch gallop and then fell off in stinging nettles. It wasnt his fault , the other horse took off. but i guess it wasnt anyones fault, what happens is meant to happen, thats how i think :) xx
Em, not being rude or giving crit, but that horse looks kinda to tall for her? if thats a proper riding school, there should be more variety of horses to ride. this doesnt look like a pony it looks like a HORSE and she doesnt look very tall she looks SHORT so maybe she should've beeen on a smaller horse/pony (not that it has anything to do with the fall) just the main thing that caught my eye. And p.s- i do have my own horse and im 11 and have been riding since i was 4.so im not talking crap.xx
@mollyandbazforever Yeah I agree with you, especially since the horse is very chunky and you can see in the vid it's not going forward. To be fair though most small ponies are a bit whizzy and strong in my experience!
@mollyandbazforever sometimes falls from poines can be a lot worse than from horses, when i used to ride my shetland it hurt a lot more to fall of her than my 16.2 :)
@horseriderhannah The horse probably has a great nature for younger kids. While he is quite a bit bigger than a smaller pony, he is also probably a lot less cheeky than most ponies lol. I'm sure the riding school matched the girl's ability to the horse appropriately :)
Love how a lot of people are going after poor Katie's riding style here! Um she's 8.... hmm maybe she's doing what that insanely whiney voice is telling her too? I know whenever I was riding at the same time as a lesson, children her age and size inparticular where always taught to stay 2-point until over the jump if not until they hit the track again.
And she's listening to her instructer. When did you last go against your instructer?
@LittleRiderLu I had to do that too when I first starting jumping, and I was older than her. It helps you learn how to be in the position while going slow.
K to all you idiots who can't see anything but yourself. Not everyone likes riding, some people try it to see if they like it. Someone show me where in the book it says that EVERYONE who has ever tried riding has to stick with it. Yes. That's right. It doesn't. So GET OVER IT >.<
two years she isnt riding hard enough to have her first fall at two years my first fall was on the second day of riding i was walking and my stupid friend yelled cheese puff ( random) and she spooked and i fell of but i landed on my but so im ok
that causes you to stop riding and guiding the horse, so he is highly likely to stop or turn before the jump. It also adds more weight to their front end, which is what they need to lift first to jump, this position makes it harder on the horses than it would be to sit up in between... I don't get why the instructor starteed yelling, because it was already too late/she was already on the ground, it just freaked the poor horse out
@crazygirl2137 well not nessicarilly but like ive been riding for 4 years and i wouldnt fall off doing that but if your only 8 i agree with you(meaning your not 8 the girl is)
When a lot of people are just learning to jump/ride, etc., the instructor will often tell them to remain in two-point before the jump so they don't get left behind and whatnot.
@takara9 and @eventinggirl44 you guy must not be very experienced because if you were you would know that you tell them to jump you don't just let them jump over it, you tell them to and posting doesn't unbalance your horse where did u here that?? cause it actually balances out the trot to make it less bouncy for the rider thats the whole point of posting and i would know all this i've been ridin for 10 years
@eventinggirl44 you can post all the way to a jump you just need to know how to balance your self how long have you been riding? cause if you've been riding a long time i'm sure you would know already that you tell your horse when you are ready to take off with added leg, you can't always just let your horse just jump over the fence cause it wanted o get over it ,its because you instruced it to, sorry if i sound mean i'm just trying to make a point :)
her first fall wasnt as bad as mine but she is an amazing rider wish i could of got straight back on afterwards but i couldnt because i had fractured my wrist :( but apart from that i still ride today :)
the teachers are teaching her wrong when going over trotting poles you should never lean forward or stand up in ur stirrups and when approaching a jump if anything you should lean back a bit so your seat (bum) pushes the horse forward and if they refuse, then you will be just unseated abit
Wow, new low for people. Yeah, she's been riding for 2 years. But she's 8! Calm down. That is exactly how I fell off the first time. I was 10 or 11, learning to jump, got up and 2 point and the horse refused. And she is not making the horse off balance. If she was jumping higher or on a green horse, then yes. But she is obviously learning on a horse that has obviously done this before. That's how many people learn to jump.
Kudos to her though, she took it really well and got right back on! :)
That's a long way down for such a little girl. She had a great attitude tho. And guys, let up on the criticism. She's a little kid and learning. She's not gonna jump like that forever...
she is bloody 8 years old guys give her a break its not like she is training for the olympics the day you are crowned world champion then you can come back here and criticise other people's riding abilities
@rider2298 shes 8 years old... its easier for an older rider to do it right even if they have only been doing it for a few months she is young. just like its easier for an old kid or even adult to learn things they learn faster than younger kids
@Xryukshinigami666X If you are a horse rider, you can fall of ANY time.... you can be a very experienced rider, and STILL fall off, with falling off you gain experience, and 'self confidence' on the horse, i've been riding for about 6-7 years... and i've only fallen of 11 times.. (i'm not bragging) i'm just saying.. and every time you fall, you learn something! :) happy riding!
when the jumps are that low you dont get into your 2-point low like its a huge jump that is why she fell off . Because when your jumping low jump horses ca put there heads down more easier and plop goes the rider:)
@emmaflippy Some people do it at a young age because their friends do it or because a big group of people they know or people they look up to do it and because they want to be the same as them. When they grow older and become more independant they just loose interest because its never what they've really wanted to do or been pasitionate about. Haha :)
that horse is beautiful at least she didnt make a big deal of it that looked like a bad fall for a first one. Also that horse looks a tad ibg for her maybe its her position but it does (just pointing out)
but i dont know why people are fussing over how she jumps i learned to jump like that at first just to get used to the jumping position but you grow out of it !
if the horse is calm it dosent matter if its big i have a 16.2 hh horse and my 3 yr old cousin walks him on her own and trots him up the road he would never do anything and by the looks of it its absoultly fine!
She's 8 Years Old For Gods Sake People! You Wouldnt Like It If People Were Saying Mean And Nasty Things To You Now Leave Her Alone She Done Very Well! x
@hanna52901 I agree with this but this could of been Katie's first jumping lesson, its a jumping teckniche so instead of getting left behind, she could be a bit early instead. I agree, she could of encouraged her horse more or tighten her legs more, but she might of been learning to jump.
@Superrwham While I agree, unfortunately a lot of instructors teach their riders to jump by starting over trot polls in the jumping position and then continuing over a low jump to get the "feel" for the position.
Horse is a dirty little stopper. I agree with the trainer to teach the two-point in the way she is doing it here. Learning proper position before and after the jump is the only way to get the right position on top of the jump. Eventually she would have moved from only doing her jumping position over the jump. This is a very common way trainer in America teach.
its really not safe or the right way...many people think it is. BUT if you have ever done clinics or lessons from top riders they will NOT want you to post.
@Superrwham she is probably just learning to jump. i did that when i first started jumping. its not a bad thing to do that. shes probaly just learning.....so chill.
@Superrwham if it was one of her first jumps (judging by the height of it i'd say she doesnt have a ton of jumping experience) then it's normal to have the student go into 2point WAY early, because that way they can get more of a feel for it rather than getting left behind every time and pulling on the horse's mouth. going into it early when learning to jump is the safest way.
OUCH!!! poor girl is she ok i remember when i had my first fall my horse bolted and i came off it hurt on my bottom and back it really did hurt but i went back on and tryed to canter again and i did it.! :-)
The best way to prepare for the jump is to sit before the jump OR go into a SLIGHT 2-point. You never, never post all the way to the jump. You can however go into slight 2-point; a 2-point where you arent leaning forward, just to where your bottom is out of the saddle. Doing either of these makes the jump easier on the horse and it makes the jump look nicer.
Actually you should NEVER post all the way to a jump because it makes you and your horse unbalanced coming into a jump. Also if the horse takes off as you are posting up then you hit their always hit their back.
@eventinggirl44 Why would it make you and the horse unbalanced to come into the jump? Lots of green horses need that extra stability and rhythm to keep them calm up to jumps. As long as you can feel your horse's movement and get a feel for when he takes off, it's not a big deal. Some riders are in better balance posting than in two-point.
@eventinggirl44 but it teaches beginner riders to post at the right time and to get the rhythm right and to feel when the horse is lifting... but I agree with what you say, but if you take a calm, well balanced patient horse, i'm sure they'll manage! :)
@eventinggirl44 actually, and i'm not trying to start anything, i'm just saying, posting actually balances your horse, that is why english riders post, to balance out the horse's trot, obviously you would sit maybe the last beat if its a rising beat and the horse is about to take off. again, i'm not starting anything, just stateing what i've been tauught in 5 years of riding
@eventinggirl44 actually she was two pointing and it doesnt make a horse unbalanced it tell your horse ( if there wellm at listening) that there is a jump comming up. It not wrong to two point that early depending on the horse. I've been riding and ive taught lesson if you post on your way you the use the posting to come into your two piont it sometimes help depending on the experience of the rider...
@eventinggirl44 yeah i agree. i was taught to be prepared for two-point 2 strides in front of take of and be in it 1 stride before take off. you and i both know it hurts both rider and horse when you get left behind.
@Superrwham She did the right thing, which is preparing into two point early. She just needed to look forward and not downward and keep her heels down.
@takara9 Actually, you shouldn't be in the two-point before the jump, because you're more unstable, that's what happended here. You should be posting (or sitting or three point at the canter), up to the jump and then get up into the two point over the jump, that way, you are more stable up to the jump, so if the horse does that, you will be ready.
@takara9 You shouldn't be in the two point early, actually. The two point is the most unstable position, so if the horse does what he did in this video, it's a lot easier to fall off. At the trot, you should continue posting when approaching the jump and then up into the two-point over the jump. At the canter you should be in the three point (which is when your butt is a little bit out of the saddle, but you are still in contact with it) or sitting, this keeps you more stable up to the jump.
@MsBarnBum My instructor says it is best to prepare. Maybe you would be more stable, if you used it more before the jump. Sometimes it helps to grab a little mane.
Just my oppinion, I don't think that she should be on a horse that refuses until she can jump properly. And if they don't have a horse at the barn that doesn't refuse than maybe one that rarely refuses. Just my oppinion.
The first time i fell off i was riding a friend's horse and i was galloping in the pasture and we went up a hill and instead of running sown, he jumped down. (I didnt know how to jump). I got threw off the side of the saddle.

@emmaflippy some people "try" it and some people have a passion to do it like myself :D

@emmaflippy I KNOW RIGHT? its impossible!

@emmaflippy It's not everyones idea of fun. maybe she decided it was better not to waste money
JonasandHorses 6 months ago
@emmaflippy Some people do it at a young age because their friends do it or because a big group of people they know or people they look up to do it and because they want to be the same as them. When they grow older and become more independant they just loose interest because its never what they've really wanted to do or been pasitionate about. Haha :)
emaieoghanahally 5 months ago
guys chill...she was a beginer, and thats how many beginers learn to jump. The jumps were really small, so the horse could easily step over it!

@liopytre12 i agree!!! :)

that horse is beautiful at least she didnt make a big deal of it that looked like a bad fall for a first one. Also that horse looks a tad ibg for her maybe its her position but it does (just pointing out)
but i dont know why people are fussing over how she jumps i learned to jump like that at first just to get used to the jumping position but you grow out of it !

fwi ur not supposed to do that ur supposed to 2 point right when the horse lifts its front legs
hanna52901 1 year ago
@hanna52901 I agree with this but this could of been Katie's first jumping lesson, its a jumping teckniche so instead of getting left behind, she could be a bit early instead. I agree, she could of encouraged her horse more or tighten her legs more, but she might of been learning to jump.
myponyrocket 1 year ago
@hanna52901 clearly she is doing this an an excercise to practise and improve her jumping position.....

@Superrwham While I agree, unfortunately a lot of instructors teach their riders to jump by starting over trot polls in the jumping position and then continuing over a low jump to get the "feel" for the position.

verry cutee!:D

Horse is not a dirty little stopper, the rider came at less than 1mph and hunched over, absolutely no chance of jumping it!! terrible

aww she looked so happy when she was talking with her trainer!!!
horsesareme4ever 1 year ago
Horse is a dirty little stopper. I agree with the trainer to teach the two-point in the way she is doing it here. Learning proper position before and after the jump is the only way to get the right position on top of the jump. Eventually she would have moved from only doing her jumping position over the jump. This is a very common way trainer in America teach.

@ShilohStables2010
its really not safe or the right way...many people think it is. BUT if you have ever done clinics or lessons from top riders they will NOT want you to post.
eventinggirl44 1 year ago
@Superrwham she is probably just learning to jump. i did that when i first started jumping. its not a bad thing to do that. shes probaly just learning.....so chill.
mrjumpingbeanz 1 year ago
lol mom did you get it :) bless her hope she was okay
AlexAjj1994 1 year ago
@Superrwham if it was one of her first jumps (judging by the height of it i'd say she doesnt have a ton of jumping experience) then it's normal to have the student go into 2point WAY early, because that way they can get more of a feel for it rather than getting left behind every time and pulling on the horse's mouth. going into it early when learning to jump is the safest way.

OUCH!!! poor girl is she ok i remember when i had my first fall my horse bolted and i came off it hurt on my bottom and back it really did hurt but i went back on and tryed to canter again and i did it.! :-)
HorseCrazy123able 1 year ago
@MsBarnBum
The best way to prepare for the jump is to sit before the jump OR go into a SLIGHT 2-point. You never, never post all the way to the jump. You can however go into slight 2-point; a 2-point where you arent leaning forward, just to where your bottom is out of the saddle. Doing either of these makes the jump easier on the horse and it makes the jump look nicer.
eventinggirl44 1 year ago
@eventinggirl44 I've seen alot of people posst all the way to the jump.
ShilohStables2010 1 year ago
@takara9 haha your welcome!
eventinggirl44 1 year ago
@MsBarnBum
Actually you should NEVER post all the way to a jump because it makes you and your horse unbalanced coming into a jump. Also if the horse takes off as you are posting up then you hit their always hit their back.
eventinggirl44 1 year ago 12
@eventinggirl44 You are very correct! Thanks for actually thinking!
takara9 1 year ago
@eventinggirl44 In some lessons they make you do that just so you get used to the position maybe it wasent out of choice
ProRiderBrakennCharl 10 months ago
@eventinggirl44 ya your right go up to 2 point when the horses front feet are in the air
shcatzilla7119 10 months ago
@eventinggirl44 Why would it make you and the horse unbalanced to come into the jump? Lots of green horses need that extra stability and rhythm to keep them calm up to jumps. As long as you can feel your horse's movement and get a feel for when he takes off, it's not a big deal. Some riders are in better balance posting than in two-point.
hidenseeker424 10 months ago
@eventinggirl44 but it teaches beginner riders to post at the right time and to get the rhythm right and to feel when the horse is lifting... but I agree with what you say, but if you take a calm, well balanced patient horse, i'm sure they'll manage! :)
MrsflirtyEyes 9 months ago
@eventinggirl44 actually, and i'm not trying to start anything, i'm just saying, posting actually balances your horse, that is why english riders post, to balance out the horse's trot, obviously you would sit maybe the last beat if its a rising beat and the horse is about to take off. again, i'm not starting anything, just stateing what i've been tauught in 5 years of riding
Bucklesluva 9 months ago
@eventinggirl44 actually she was two pointing and it doesnt make a horse unbalanced it tell your horse ( if there wellm at listening) that there is a jump comming up. It not wrong to two point that early depending on the horse. I've been riding and ive taught lesson if you post on your way you the use the posting to come into your two piont it sometimes help depending on the experience of the rider...
Teyiahful 9 months ago
@eventinggirl44 yeah i agree. i was taught to be prepared for two-point 2 strides in front of take of and be in it 1 stride before take off. you and i both know it hurts both rider and horse when you get left behind.
DragonHeart956 8 months ago
@Superrwham She did the right thing, which is preparing into two point early. She just needed to look forward and not downward and keep her heels down.
takara9 1 year ago
@takara9 Actually, you shouldn't be in the two-point before the jump, because you're more unstable, that's what happended here. You should be posting (or sitting or three point at the canter), up to the jump and then get up into the two point over the jump, that way, you are more stable up to the jump, so if the horse does that, you will be ready.
MsBarnBum 1 year ago
@takara9 You shouldn't be in the two point early, actually. The two point is the most unstable position, so if the horse does what he did in this video, it's a lot easier to fall off. At the trot, you should continue posting when approaching the jump and then up into the two-point over the jump. At the canter you should be in the three point (which is when your butt is a little bit out of the saddle, but you are still in contact with it) or sitting, this keeps you more stable up to the jump.
MsBarnBum 1 year ago
@MsBarnBum My instructor says it is best to prepare. Maybe you would be more stable, if you used it more before the jump. Sometimes it helps to grab a little mane.

no offence but the instructor shouldnt of shouted.

Just my oppinion, I don't think that she should be on a horse that refuses until she can jump properly. And if they don't have a horse at the barn that doesn't refuse than maybe one that rarely refuses. Just my oppinion.

God she was leaning waay 2 forward!!

why are people giving out advice to her. she lost interest so she doesn't care and plus this video is old so she won't see it ans read your advice.
elinheartstristin 1 year ago
thats stupid that she lost interest maybe she got bored of that riding style?
saddlebredhorsegirl 1 year ago
nice and sweet horse, but the girl is to little for the horse.. Maybe is it better to learn on a smaller horse, when you fall then it isnt that hard.
noukie175 1 year ago
The first time i fell off i was riding a friend's horse and i was galloping in the pasture and we went up a hill and instead of running sown, he jumped down. (I didnt know how to jump). I got threw off the side of the saddle.
