I really liked this game, i was very different compared to the sonic games out at the time. This aside from adventure 2 battle are games that i really want to see ported and immortalized on the xbox/playstation online markets
With all the re-imaginings of this soundtrack that have been done (Sonic Adventure, Sonic 4...) I'm surprised this track didn't find its way into other games, it's definitely one of the coolest tracks and its ambiguity could have it suitable for a variety of situations.
This music seems to complement the boss in a more subtle way. Like a "what's coming next" kind of feeling as Dr. Robotnik uses a variety of weapons in an attempt to dispose of Sonic.
I love this one better than the Saturn version. Final Boss themes don't always HAVE to sound evil and dark. This one just has the feeling of, "I'm in the final level, and it all comes down to this."
The most disappointing thing in the entire game is, no Super Sonic! After getting all the Chaos Emeralds shaped like Halls medicine, no Super Sonic. This isn't the best Sonic game ever made, but the music here is memorable.
Because of how much it conveys a final boss without having to break in the rock band. It's got its own kind of tension to it giving the boss a "this is it" feeling. It is a subtle and silent kind of epicness that doesn't happen often with music.
For those who say that this doesn't sound/look like a Final Boss fight:
The entire area looks like it's inside a computer, an empty matrix - at start, your all alone, & then Robotnik's comes in different areas to attack you & you get a sence of progression as you transport to one small area to another, like Level 1 to Level 2.
This music describes you (Sonic) are all alone inside a dark area/matrix with Robotnik pursuing you. A different perspective to the usual predictable final fights.
@HyperShan3 and to add to that. The setting in the saturn version of this boss fight is far too cliche' for my liking. Climactic orchestral music that sounds generic plays in the background as well.
The part I hate fighting the final boss is that the machine shoots the balls until I found a way to avoid it, you have to got to the top left corner and stay there until he comes appearing, giving you the chance to hit him.
Sorry but i have to disagree wiith some comments. This song sounds nothing like an EXCEPTIONAL final fight theme. Id hve to say they should have panic puppet zone act 2. Though i love every other song, this one just doesnt sound at all like a final fight theme. I do like this song very much. Sonic 3D is also a great game and i mean no offence to anyone.
probably my favorite boss theme cause it just has an ominous and space like feel to it. Its not your traditional final boss theme which is why i like it compared to the saturn version
Of all the final bosses in sonic (on sega of course), this one was probably the toughest...the only others i played (Sonic 1, Sonic 2) had final bosses that weren't that hard...
man all these sonic songs take me down memory lane.... my dad bought me a sega and sonic 1 for christmas when I was 3 years old, roughly 17-18 years ago... such classic games.
For some reason, back in the day when I listened to the sound test, I always imagined this theme being Knuckles' theme. Cuz of the tribal drums and that enigmatic melody. But as a final boss theme, it truly is epic.
This version absolutely destroys the Saturn version. I don't know why they didn't carry over the soundtrack . . . the Genesis soundtrack was superior in pretty much every aspect.
I think u feel that way because its a little gimmickey to have an orchestral dramatic sound track at the end. This one sounds more sinister without sounding too dramatic. Thats why the genesis version is superior to the saturn version of this song

Probably because the Saturn soundtrack was made first to take advantage of CD audio, while the Genesis soundtrack was only made because the Saturn soundtrack wouldn't have been possible on the Genesis in the first place.
Oh, by the way, I meant to say that Sonic 3D Blast may not have been the best Sonic game, but it had the best sounding music and was the best looking MD/GEN (Megadrive/Genesis) game for 1996.
the game wasn't very good? are you mad, too? this game gave sonic the oportunity of being played with different sprites, and I think it was magnificent
It's like the less epic of all the boss battle theme of Sonic 3d Blast, and you made a 6min33sec overlooped version... It's pointless, you get tired of listening the same song over and over (when not playing the videogame itself) and the next time it plays on your playlist, you get bored and skip it... Having only two looping makes you want to listen to it another time, another day... but that is exagerated. lol
the less epic of all boss battle theme? are you mad? this music is the MOST epic of old school sonic's battle themes, and it's very very good, I don't get tired of listening to it...get lost, dude
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Yes, for a final battle this theme sucks, and you know, not to insult people yell a you... just you know, the reality?
And this game, after Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Knuckles... was a definite deception... but the average everyone graphics freak guy who first played the game on a emulator won't tell the difference... I personally prefered The Hedgehog 2 & 3 & 3&K soundtrack, from Jun Senoue.
Are you from other planet? this theme is great for a final battle, very much epic and deep.
I love Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles, but only Sonic & Knuckles' soundtrack was made by Jun Senoue. and Sonic 3D wasn't a deception, I know all games from old school Sonic, because I'm from old school, and Sonic 3D gave me the marvelous oportunity of seing Sonic in a different perspective. the levels are magnificent, the music is magnificent and epic, and the graphics are very good for a 1996 game.
@SuPeRsOnIc363541 I don't remember how I came here but I was mad at every people saying this song was epic... in my opinion it is the less epic song of a great game.

My Favorite Final Boss Theme.
It's just weird and Strange, but catchy at the same time.
It manages to sound both pop-like but dark and creppy at the same time, few composers manage to do something like that.

Sega's downfall was mosly caused by themself.
They overestimated themself and created like more consoles than Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft put together.
And not everyone wanted to buy a new console every few months... even the biggest Sega fans.
