At 7.56 some people in the audience look like trying to disturb her in the difficult pianissimo. They say something like bouuu. Callas has already evoked that in some of her interview. She said that a bunch of people used to do that at La Scala to disturb her in la traviata as well. Nice to hear in this clip what she was likely talking about :) very disturbing indeed..
@mdfiras I'd actually always thought that was the audience involuntarily letting out a few 'ohh's of amazement at the diminuendo on the high C -- but maybe it's a claque! Phenomenal vocal control regardless.
@mdfiras Sounds more like an amazed intake/outake of breath. That's what most people think it is, it's definitely not a hiss. The audience worshipped her that night.
