  • I'm determined to become a good web designer, your a good role model in a web design basis i love that one design in your portfolio the ram truck one

  • Hello Michael, can you recommend me some free software for designing websites similar to Adobe Fireworks ?

  • Awesome video, thanks for making it. Actually I had left a comment earlier on this topic asking for advice on how to break into the field. Thinking back now I should have asked you to make a video (such as this one) so that everyone could benefit. Anyway, good advice, keep it up.

  • you are hel of a frelance teacher thanks

  • I listen to the videos while getting ready for work (for my non web design job). Great advice! Sticking with ya!

  • Hi Mike, what I like about watching your videos is I feel you're genuine, and you always give great advise. They're always very helpful and easy to follow. Thanx Sheryl

  • Thanks for this post Mike. Simply amazing man. Thanks for the advice as well. Cheers!

  • although I'm a graphic designer, I can relate to your video's in your blog. I have to start personal branding in order to get work. Can I please get your opinion on the following matter; Should I communicate I'm multiskilled, in order to get any sort of job. Or should I brand myself in one specific direction?

  • This guy is the Bomb!

  • @sketchgrafix01 No, you're the bomb for watching and supporting my videos. ;) Thanks!

  • Obviously doing a web vlog shows the face and voice. How important do you think it is to put your face on a promotional / business website? I've thought of examples of work makes sense, but is putting the face important?

  • @MegF142857 Yes, showing your face is very important. I did a video on that in the past, check this video /watch?v=az6G1napgAQ ...its called "The Importance of Profile Pictures".

  • Passion? Man, I lost that after I left high school. I went into college with another career is mind but sometimes I miss doing websites.

  • @SirGomez81 Stay connected and watch my videos weekly, I'll bring back that passion. ;)

  • as always, awesome advice. love you long time mike.

  • Thanks for your uplifting video man, it just started my day :)

  • @sodredge You bet, glad I can motivate you a bit. ;)

  • @mlwebco I know you have a course in web design, which is great. However do you also teach web development? Holla back, Son!

  • @thegodsend I only teach HTML/CSS in my course. For programming and deeper web development, definitely look into online resources like Lynda . com

  • im gonna start vlogging - even though i consider myself a low/mid level web designer I've dealt with many clients so i think i'd have good advice. how do you get inspiration for your vlogs?

  • @rjcream At first, I just started by writing out a list of topics. Then as new things come up, I might think of something new. It varies. Just write a few things that you have an opinion on and speak on it. That's all it takes.

  • .....to do something different. It's so far just a waste of time...

  • I am already thinking its time to doso

  • where did you get those statistics from?

  • @maljarlol Those stats are just made up, based on my opinion. But I have a feeling I'm probably not too far off. But it's not real data, just a concept.

  • That graph, even though it was simple, helped.

I consider myself in the average catergory of that graph.

I have knowledge of xhtml, css, php/databases/mysql, and some javascript. I have a problem of thinking that if I don't know EVERYTHING about a certain language I'm not good enough to start looking for a job. How much do you need to know before people will think you're good enough?

Also, in your opinion, do you think it's easier getting a job as a web designer, or a web programmer?

  • @archange156 Just to add to that (ran out of character >.<).. I also have recently have received a diploma in Website Development. Is that even worth anything?

    Thank you again, Mike!

  • @archange156 Not really worth that much. What's worth more is you body of work (portfolio). Your portfolio and your experience together is your web design Master's and PHD.

  • @archange156 You know you're good enough until you land that solid job you might want or you continue to get consistent work from people. Until then, you never stop learning or trying to make yourself different from others. That should always be in play throughout your career. Yes, I've made it, but I have to continue to be different and learn all the time. Your last question is tough... its not easy to land either job. Both fields expect and demand solid skills, etc. So it's the same for both.

  • @mlwebco I appreciate the reply! Thanks.

  • This information is money.. Michael thanks for sharing this.. this can also be applied in any type of freelance related service

  • @e1krimez87 You bet, exactly this advice can be applied to any field.
