Apolonia was perfect for Michael. The ideal wife. She would've been like Michael's mother, never interfering in her husband decision. That is how she was brought up to be, never question her husband. Kay never understood Michael's way of life, the decision he made to protect his family.
@lordvoldemort578 yeah id jump over kay for apollonia in a heartbeat....plus shes sexy af and proper lady... not a westernized feminist pig woman....lol
I hope this finish the discussion: Born in the hills around Corleone, Apollonia was the daughter of a Greek mother and a Sicilian father, both of whom were incredibly protective of her. Apollonia grew into a very beautiful young woman.
Please can anyone tell me name of song from Godfather 1, its from start when movie is starting..there is some joy/meeting and they are all dancing to one old song..
I am Greek and when I watched the Godfather I was overwhelmed with emotion watching life in Sicily....it is so close to life in any Greek island that it amazed me. Even Apollonia looks so stunning like a greek goddess......wonderful scenery, and a wonderful culture of Sicily......Una fatsa una ratsa as we say.
@SickGypsy7 My boyfriend was born in Corleone, his family lives in Corleone for generations. And he feels very Italian! As much as he feels Sicilian. He also has never heard of a name Apollonia on Sicily before. It was made up for this movie.
@SuperTanjaBjelic first off the city of Corleone has nothing to do with it seeing as how the movie wasn't filmed there
- your boyfriend should have known that if he is indeed from Corleone. second , how does him being from Sicily make him an expert on Sicilian names ? do you honestly think that because there are no Appolonias in his town that the name does not exist in Sicily ? and last but not least , who the hell are you to come at me talking about Sicily when your not even Italian ?
@SickGypsy7 Yes, he knows the movie was not filmed in his town, of course. I wonder who are you to know so much about Sicilian names, since you are obviously American, with Italian roots probably. which explains why you have so extreme views on national identity, like many emigrants. I'm sayng that not all people from Sicily feel like you said. my boyfriend and his family would be offended if you would tell them they are not Italians. And at the end, is this discussion opened only for Italians??
@SuperTanjaBjelic In that case i agree with you , there are a lot of Sicilians who consider themselves to be Italian first , but i believe in my original comment , " to be Sicilian is not to be Italian " i was talking about culture -now your boyfriend and his family can slice it up any way they want but the truth is that Sicilians are not just Italian mainlanders , the bloodlines are mixed with a variety of different nationalities which add to the language and culture
@SuperTanjaBjelic and i am not saying that you do not have the right to voice your opinion on something but you are discussing my culture and i think you should know what your talking about before u open your mouth - although i don't think what you are saying conflicts with what i have said but u sorta came out of no where with your opinion , i apologize if i offended you. what nationality are you ? have you posted any music ?
@SickGypsy7 I don't think someone can't be called Apollonia on Sicily, but it's obviously not a common name. If Mario Puzo imagined character Apollonia who was from Corleone (or some village next to it), and the town in the movie is suppose to be Corleone, what does it matter where was the actual set of the movie? But it's nice that you showed that you also know that.
@SuperTanjaBjelic the town in the movie is not Corleone- Calo points it out to Mike as they go far from it and wander about until they get to Signor Vitelli's town . Apollonia's odd name comes from the fact that Puzo had her mother be a Greek woman- hence the mashup name. Similarly the movie character Frank Pentangelli has a Greek-Italian name, made up by Coppola.
@SuperTanjaBjelic hi im sicilian and i live in the province of messina......Apollonia is a rare name in sicily but it existes because we been fo centuries under the greek domination and we have many greek art here and names.....like in my town there is a area caled Gala......Gala from old greek means milk....they are all cow buys that produce milk there,,,,,andf much more .......take a look at sicilians history.
Ogni scena tra Apollonia e Mickaele sono belle. Apollonia è il personaggio femminile più toccante del film... Incarna il parte sicilenne in Mickaele tutta la sua vita.
lol! Claudia, haha, what a coincidence; just searching randomly here. But Simonetta Stefanelli and Nino Rota ar simply elegant, breath-taking and beautiful!

appolonia which is actually a derivitive of the ancient greek god Apollo is apearently greek and for
a name like that to exist in sicily it should serve as an example of how thick of an impact they made on the island !
