I am Greek and when I watched the Godfather I was overwhelmed with emotion watching life in Sicily....it is so close to life in any Greek island that it amazed me. Even Apollonia looks so stunning like a greek goddess......wonderful scenery, and a wonderful culture of Sicily......Una fatsa una ratsa as we say.

I wonder who are you to know so much about Sicilian names, since you are obviously American, with Italian roots probably. which explains why you have so extreme views on national identity, like many emigrants. If Mario Puzo imagined character Apollonia who was from Corleone (or some village next to it), and the town in the movie is suppose to be Corleone, what does it matter where was the actual set of the movie? But it's nice that you showed that you also know that.

@SuperTanjaBjelic the town in the movie is not Corleone- Calo points it out to Mike as they go far from it and wander about until they get to Signor Vitelli's town . Apollonia's odd name comes from the fact that Puzo had her mother be a Greek woman- hence the mashup name. Similarly the movie character Frank Pentangelli has a Greek-Italian name, made up by Coppola.

@SuperTanjaBjelic hi im sicilian and i live in the province of messina......Apollonia is a rare name in sicily but it existes because we been fo centuries under the greek domination and we have many greek art here and names.....like in my town there is a area caled Gala......Gala from old greek means milk....they are all cow buys that produce milk there,,,,,andf much more .......take a look at sicilians history.
