The down-tuned guitars give this a great, heavy feel. I love that aspect of it.

I just can't see the fucking point of this vocal style, though?

I'm not looking for an argument here - if you're just gonna abuse me you can fuck off yourselves - I just want someone to rationalise the point of "singing" like this.

@WatTyler13 Because this is what SFU vocals are like. Chris Barnes has pretty good clean vocals as well, but this is what he opted to use in Cannibal Corpse and SFU. Look up "death metal" on the internet.

@WatTyler13 How/why would it be up to a simple fan of the music to rationalize how/why the style of vocals was chosen for a particular band's sound? Again, if you knew (even vaguely) about death metal / grindcore metal and the like, you'd understand that that is just the way the vocals are. It's the way the genre came into existence. Or, think of it this way: Could you imagine Art Garfunkel laying down the vocal tracks for these types of songs?

I think you're being a bit harsh on yourself there with your use of the word "simple"!. I do understand that this is the way the vocals are in Death Metal, but why is it so hard to explain WHY? Punk vocalists scream because they are trying to convey anger and frustration; what are these vocals trying to convey? And of course Art G would sound ridiculous but you're taking it to the other extreme there. Trad metal vocals would do the job; why make them sound this absurd?

@WatTyler13 You forced the other extreme by asking "why?" an element in an art form is the way it is. Artists just create; they don't rationalize. If others support it, great. If not, great.

But if we must, then it's basically the same as punk: to convey anger and frustration. Add in an additional element of wanting to be more macho, tougher, darker, whatever it is they're thinking.... more of a "leave me fuck the alone or I'll fucking kill you" rather than punk's "leave me alone, wanker".

@WatTyler13 If all you're really driving at is to state that you don't like the vocals, then it's ok to say that. So the little youtube kiddies won't approve, with their thumbs down or "die fag" shit, but who gives a fuck about them. If you're heterosexual and in good health, those types of comments don't apply anyways and therefore wouldn't matter, which, they don't. It'd take more than a lifetime to properly hash out why everything in the world sucks. It's a waste of time really.
