I stripped down a few services and some other items that were slow loading. Use bootchart to see how long it takes to load. My EeePC has an SSD drive too. There are a few guides online that I followed to speed up my loading. The general OS once installed was fairly quick, but lagged a bit on flash, so I've changed to Xubuntu 9.04 now.

I have got my boot time to around 18 seconds now too, so quick enough for everyday use dipping in and out.
